Boxing Day

I noticed on my calendar that it is Boxing Day in Canada. Me being an American had no idea what this was so I looked it up and and still confused as to what Boxing Day really is. From my understanding it is a holiday that people give gifts to the less fortunate or the "social class" as wikipedia said. I just wanted to know what it is from someone who has first hand experience with this holiday. So could someone please tell me more about this holiday?
 
hahaahahahhaah no your way off before christmas all the prices go up because theres a high demand and right after christmas (boxing day) everything goes on sale so everyone goes out to shop.
 
Canadian equivalent to black friday only its the day after christmas instead of thanksgiving. I dunno I just snagged a 30 dollar rail on the internet cause of it so hells yeah

I looked at Wikipedia for the information but obviously I either misinturprted the info or wikipedia is wrong.

nah bro, you were right, that was the original meaning of it like hundreds of years ago, in NZ its just one huge sale. Most shops have discounts between 20 - 75% off lotsa stuff, its so crazy in town though so I never go to the sales.. like people queueing outside some of the bigger shops before they open crazy

Boxing days means only one thing - GAME ONE!

i was always in canada for boxing day growing up. i always understood it to be a day to give to the needy...

and then it slowly morphed into a shopping extravaganza for the most fortunate.
 
the sales go fucking insane.

we had security guys on our front door, doing the nightclub thing of two people out, two more in. BAH.

then again, think double time and a half for those poor people working boxing day.

$53 an hour makes it so much better though.
 
ive never heard of it being a day for giving to the poor, i always thought it was because stores now need to get rid of last years product.. i just got back from boxing day shopping and got like $400 worth of stuff for $170, but the line to get into the store was an hour in the rain

I only get time and half for working stat days damnit. it really should be 2.5x but I don't think I'm eligible since im a temp
 
A fight to pick up the best items for the lowest price is what you mean i think. Rules are: no bitting, kicking in the crotch and pulling hair..
 
how the hell do you manage that? one of my friends make bank on holidays, but shes a vet tech and its only cuz she get time and a 1/2 plus holiday pay.
