yeah rails are better but boxes can be crazy fun too. At windells the 65 ft flat box to 15 ft down was awesome

I dont understnad why people like them so much, it takes alot less skill to spin on and around on a box.

precisely why people like them, and they are fun but nothing like rails

people like them because they can do a 450 to box and they can say. like ya man i can 450 on. its simple. it is simple compared to rails. there sick. and fun to fool around on

they are fun to play on but too easy...they shouldnt be in competitions unless its a rail jam and theres MORE RAILS THEN BOXES....the masters was so lame cause it was nearly all boxes. like a 8 kink box is sick or one with a few kinks but basic ones are so gay for comps although they are fun for regular park riding

Screwing around on boxes is fun, but ya comps without rails are definitely pretty gay.

Yes i will also agree that it can be fun just dicking around on boxes. But kids think that doing some thing on a box is hard, and can compare to a rail.

Comps is another thing that boxes SHOULD NOT be in. Like giray siad masters was a big let down becuse it was ONE rail. And in alot of comps i have been in judges dont see the diffrence that doing some thing on a box is no ware near as hard as a rail.

it's because there are a ton of new kids to freestlye so they need boxs

bitchy racers are gay we need little ns stickers that we put on our ski's in a certan place so we no that that other person likes ns

hey steave it's just a fat kid - family guy

i dont like boxes i like rainbows the most they are so fun and the big ones are the best but boxes are boring to me i just try stuff on them first like 270 one and stuff

almost every comp i went to/saw had a flat box in the course and over half of the competitors eithe 270'd or 450'd on and i hated skiing a little bit more with every rotation while sliding the box itself.

Right throughout this season at my home mountain the "rail-park" has seen more box than Ron Jeremy, and really, I'm getting sick of it. I can 270 on, switch 270 onto the long ones, but that means fuck-all to me 'cos they ARE NOT RAILS!

Snatch a kiss... Or vice versa.

Yar an idiot.

Yar a bitch.

Ya shit me to tears.

I'll be down the pub.

well... i guess boxes are good to learn on and give your rail park variety. i would way rather learn a 450 onto a box first then take it to the rail than get my ribs worked by a rail that i wasnt good enough to do... know what im sayin ?

boxes are are great in parks and are really fun to do presses and other proggressive tricks, but they shouldnt be in comps. i dont know how many stupid rail jams i went to last year witha flat gap down box, that turned into a spin onto the box contest.

now in some cases boxes were fine, i.e. vermont open, because they had rails and those boxes are quite large. to often though its a small box where people just spin onto spin on, and spin off the box.

its not that hard.

rails are just better

i may be wrong but i feel that there is more future for boxs than rail,

ie. the vert box at the orage masters, that would be hard with a rail

i concur boxs are nice to start learning on, thats how i leanred rails i practiced on boxs first so they do help and they are just fun to fool around on

Boxes can be cool also if they can be setup in ways that rails wouldn't work out as well...but I definately think you should judge your rail tricks on what you can do on rails, not boxes.

gravity games was the biggest example of that, barely a legit rail.

Its only for decoration thats it and thats all

yea thats a good point, there has been a lot of people calling what are 6-10in wide boxes rails, which just isnt right

i think boxes are getting used way to often, rails are sooo much better and i dont understand y in compitions they dont have at least one super crazy rail like a rollercoster s, i mean y is this, if the pros r the best in the world they should have some crazy rails to compete on

Here's a questions I've been wondering about.

When does it stop being a rail and start being a box. What width is the cut off? There are alot of "stock" rails or platter style rails that seem pretty damn wide. What do you think?

Stay Classy Newschoolers

hard to say but when there is no middle say lexon or some thing its a rail. But anything i would say that is over 6 inch wide is starting to be a box.

boxes are great. I 100% agree that they should be phased out of/de-emphasized in competitions. But aside from that, all the talk of how "easy" they are, or stupid they are is dumb. They are a great way to learn, and build confidence. I had to learn rails on the nuttable, double barrel, early season rail at killington years ago. That was hard, intimidating, and I definitely took my lumps. I wish I had had a nice flat box to learn on, to get used to the whole concept before trying it out on rails.

For instance, I'd like to try 270 disasters this year, and I'd much rather learn it on a flat down box first. Sure, it's not the same, but I could probably learn to get my 270 rotation down a lot better knowing that if I over or underrotated I'm not totally fucked, because I'm landing on a box.

they are super fun to session but I dont think they should be in pro video parts

you have to have skillz to nut yourself on a box, thats why i like them

no ones as good as me, they just got better marketing schemes

boxes seem to come up in the smaller rail park at my mountain (mt buller, australia) but on the big air park there all rails about 3 inches wide and 20 ft long.

the boxes are easier to learn on but rails are 100X sicker!
