i saw it aswell. i thought it was very well done. It was very informative. Haha Charleton Heston got it in the end. What a bastard he was made out to be. So if u have something against him or the NRA, go see it. If not, go see it anyway. Plus, it adds to the list of why Canada is better than the US.

If you try to fail, but succeed anyway, what did you just do?

aw schukhs guys, now i feel so proud, well not really, but anyways i have seen you wntrwill on here for a while where did you go?

go small it does not hurt as much

it's all about seeing the light. anyways, bowling for columbine was amazing - if u guys liked it, u should check out michael moore's other movies. roger & me, the big one, and canadian bacon. (the first 2 are documentaries also)

I saw the movie for my Media Arts class. All in all it was pretty good, however I didn't really agree with Moore in some subjects. It does make Canada seem like a pretty nice place though.

Well......The whole K-Mart thing was somewhat overplayed. I mean is it wrong for a company to make money by selling a product. It was a total tregedy but why did they blame the whole thing on K-Mart it showed that Walmart and others did the same thing and Moore didn't get all up in arms about that. Its just a question of ethics i guess. Moore also kinda showed everything from a liberal standpoint and he only showed the harshess forms of conservative views. It was a good film though.

yes, it is a very leftist view when opposing non-left ideals( i feel wrong saying that it is right, hehehehehe). good movie, thought evoking, but not too much thought

I think this movie shed a new light on Americans. Canadians are often instigators of across the board anti-American hatred. The American people are subject to very narrow media coverage (as are Canadians to a lesser extent). Can you hate people who only do and think in the only way the know how?

i don't think it's a matter of hating them, it's a matter of exposing their ignornace, and hoping that they will change their ways eventualy.

Are you sure that's it? I think I can quite comfortably say many people express outright hatred towards the american public. Sure, it's their ignorance that people dislike, but they don't go so far as to attempt to show Americans where it is they think their ignorance lies. Michael Moore does, yes. The Canadian public? Not so much.

The part in the movie that is the best is the part when micheal moore states ' the president doesn't even have to tell who he is bombing when and for what reason' Then it changes to a george bush meeting and hes saying stuff like 'the bad guys, gonna get them, and bad bad men' he doesn't even tell what they did and why they are bombing them'. I can't believe you let this 'genius' be your president. In my mind all americans are dumbass, because 50% of you legal to vote didn't and the rest voted ina gun happy retard. you economy is crashing and nobody is gonna dig you out, because the rest of the world hates you.

sacrifice, to some its just a word, to others it is a code, what matters is the colony, he is willing to live for the colony, fight for the colony, die for the colony.

i'm sure that some people don't completely understand the things that they dislike about americans, but the same is true for anything -> there is always going to be ignorance, and for this reason exactly, u have to listen to the people that understand what they object to. otherwise, you're listening to and spreading the ignorance that you at first, attempted to avoid.

1 - there are dumb ignorant people

2 - there are smart people that know what they're talking about

3 - u have to realize that there are type 1 people

4 - u have to be able to distinguish between the 2 types of people, and decide to listen to those that are type 2

It's not 'Type 2' that we need to worry about though. Ignorant people are out there...but then, what is ignorance but a lack of awareness and understanding. YES smart people exist. YES lots of people aren't ignorant. That's why Moore's work is important - he tries to reach everybody. In blacklisting a group of people as ignorant and stupid...you are in fact being part of the problem. Misunderstanding. Miscommunication.

i agree with that! what were we talking about again? something about canadians generalizing americans as all ignorant or something?.. hrmmmmm

Damn. I had no idea there was this sort of intellectual discussion going on in these forums...

Anyway, amazing documentary. Find a way to see it if you haven't already. If there's ever a movie that should be mandated for mass broadcast in public and private schools, this is it...

haha, yah sometimes something intellegent gets said on these boards...

Is this a movie that's being played in theaters or on tv? I've never heard of it before.

Don't think just jump.

its funny how famous players and other big name cinemas are playing the movie, because micheal moore is not to fond to corporate america.

sacrifice, to some its just a word, to others it is a code, what matters is the colony, he is willing to live for the colony, fight for the colony, die for the colony.

Ignorance is a really touchy subject, because in labeling people ignorant, others can accuse you of being in turn by not accepting their ideas and values. What is right versus what is wrong can differ from person to person, but it all comes down to what Mat said above, about realizing what you are listening to and how educated these people truly are on a subject.

A very educated man can dismiss others ideas on a topic he is truly culted in, but that does not make him ignorant.

yeah, it is a good movie, but don't just swallow everything it says whole. Moore does a good job of presenting certain views, but you shouldn't think of it as a documentary. it doesn't maintain (or even attempt) an unbiased viewpoint.

also, Moore interviews Marilyn Manson at one point, and after that the film seem to take the points he made as it's own. maybe just coincidence, but interesting still.

it's definitely worth seeing, just keep your mind open.

'my style's kinda phat, reminiscent of a whale...'

-Q-Tip

Well, just because it is a 'documentary' doesn't mean that it takes an entirely objective stance on the subject matter that its presenting.

Moore definitely takes a stance with the film, and what he's specifically trying to say. But even if he went out of his way to not portray a particular viewpoint, his own personal thoughts and opinions would still be present.

Its the nature of documentary film, one way or another... there IS no such thing as an objective film, unfortunately.

ya, think about it - in most documentaries there is a main narrative that more or less tells you what to think. in bowling for columbine, as well as moore's other movies, he uses interviews mixed with spoken narratives that function to help the viewer along the way. it's kinda irrelevant, but there are 5 main types of documentary films - and moore uses all 5 keys to make his movies work. un tres smart methode.

I wanna go see it. last i heard it was only at one theater in Syracuse but i dont know if its still playing there.

i think its done playing now

back to the Canadian-American dislike. The reason why Canadians instigate is because of the 'lesser extent' of media bias, as you put it. I think the average person that knows a bit about the 'ignorance' (ignorance is relative) of the American public/media really knows that it's not purely the fault of the average american but more towards the media and politicians. But I think whenever someone points that out the person will try and protect themselves or their country, look at Bill Maher. (the host of politically incorrect) His show was cancelled because viewers complained when he said that the politicains that are lobbing missles at the enemy are more cowardly than the guys that flew the planes into the world trade centre. He took a shot at the goverment and the people hated him for it. So weather or not the person is calling America or Americans ignorant is a moot point, when someone calls America's media and policians ignorant people will take it as a personal attack.

I wish they showed Rick Mercer's 'Talking to Americans' in the US. he goes into Harvard and other well known schools and gets people to sign petitions on stupid subjects. You can get it on Kazaa - If you like Moore's stuff then you should check it out.

- I've had people be shocked when I told them that Canada didn't have a king like they thought. After things like this you tend to generalize and label most americans.

-Mike

'Isn't 14 legal for everyone?' - Dave Pauls

ya, i've seen 'talking to americans' a few times. it's really funny, but the show isn't really done in an objective manner, i mean, sure - it's funny when he goes to the governer of whatever state and makes a complete buffoon of the guy, but aside from that, i think the media is manipulated a great deal to make americans look dumber than they already are.

that aside - mercer's work, like moore's, is set out to serve it's purpose, and i love them for doing so.

I lived in the U.S. for about half a year. Although I didn't watch the news on a regular basis like I used to here in Canada, i noticed a lack of truely unbiased news. The most common was the typical 'Six O'Clock ACTION News Team' bullshit. Everyone this is simply sensationalist bullpoopy. CNN, the other alternative, seems very corporate and distant, like watching ROBTV. The 'be-responsible-or-get-your-ass-fired-by-us-the-people' policy forced on the CBC seems to work pretty well. The coverage is gobally, but not to high and mighty to send its corespondants into the mud ,yet in a way that not sensationalist voyeurism like American coverage of storm, which I might add seems to be the only thig Americans fear. I only hope that Global and their fucking Kevin ''Newman'' (what bullshit) either learns to wipe their ass (and off-camera too) or get shut the fuck down but CTV's alternative shibbiness. So yeah...

''damn it TAK, you ruined everything''

Haha.. who the fuck needs to proof-read shit??? hahaha

yeah:

-Everyone (knows) this is simply sensationalist bullpoopy

-gobally to gobal

sorry

I just read in the 'Western Front,' WWU's newspaper, that Michael Moore is coming to town on April 16th, so I think I'm going to check this film out.

bowling for columbine is such a great movie. I don't know how someone couldn't like that.

and it kinda has to be shown from a liberal viewpoint considering gun control is a liberal idea.

the whole thing on the media i thought was amazing.

and the K Mart deal was to show how easy it is to buy a bullet in our country.

such an awesome movie.

stupid white mens a great book too

theres a natural mystic flowing through the air if you listen carefully now you will hear. its the first trumpet calling. might as well be the last. many more will have to suffer many more will have to die dont ask me why. things are not the way they used to be.

agree with him or not, mike moore does a pretty good job of bringing up interesting points. such as its not the number of guns, its us...as americans...

anyone know the video/dvd release date?

....west

i haven't seen it yet but here it's amazing. some of my friends saw it and came home and said it really made you think.

wow...i think you are a bunch of immature, jealous canadians...

so i buy these new jeans right....,.they are black and kinda shiney.....i get em home and find out they are dry clean only...damn.... they recommend u clean em first....right...so i wear em anyway, and they smell odd...kinda like sulfur....turns out they are made out of some special ink...weird

'cuz there are so many crappy little kids, old people, and everything in between that go through the 'experts only' park, and point at the jumps only to yell 'wow, thats a neet bump' while paruzing over em at -2mph...i hate people'

The K-Mart thing was cool...but did you know that K mart went out of business shortly after that happened. They probally knew they were going out of business, so just took away the bullets anyways so they seemed like the good guys. If the company had been doing fine, the bullets would have never been taken off the shelves.

I hate K mart anyways. They suck.

But bowling for Columbine was the best movie i have ever seen. I def. gonna try to get it on video. Everyone should see it.
