You want diagonal beams to form triangles. Rectangles shear very easily

If you throw a 45 in there instead itll be like a rock. If you get it to fot nice and snug.

Also to the feet post. You can go wide af on the front feet without worrying sbout running itno one at the end. And even at the end pretty easy to cove unless minimal summer sesh.

I would just cut a piece to go sll the way aceoss. If you 45 the ends of the 2x4 where it barely fits thing will be bomb proof before you even sink a screw into it. Helps to tske a minute and get a really good fit so it's snug. Better even if you have to smash it into place. Then that thing will survive the Yellowstone erruption
