Boreal update 12/19/2006

we were quite busy last night...

first, we started pushing snow into place for the superpipe.

no predictions other than it's looking really good for stuntditch in the near future.

second, we started filling in the Prospector Gulley for the upper night park jump line. it's a good start but we still need ALOT of Snow.

third, we have a REAL jump! It's in the middle of the line below the superpipe. Tonight we are going to try and add another above it so everything flows as you come off of Prospector Trail...so that means the d/f/d and f/d boxes will be taken out for the time being. It's only a 30ft step down jump but it's a start! We clocked it with our new radar gun and its a 22mph takeoff. We're super stoked with this new tool! It's going to help dail in the jumplines so much considering that the biggest problem Boreal has faced over the years is speed issues with the jumps. So untill we get the next jump up tonight(hopefully) just carry your speed past the f/d box(skip) and you're fine or do what the Sugarbowl Team did today and start on the stuntditch deck right above the old race shack. It's all wide open so visibility isn't a problem. It's all a work in progress right now so expect the landing to get longer over the next few nights as well the tranny changing a bit as we dail it in with the new jump coming in tonight or tomorrow.

we got a really good start on the second jump last night. it's not up but most of the snow is in place to finish it after the storm passes. We tweaked the new jump a bit last night..pushed up the landing more making it a few ft taller and a bit steeper/longer..also pushed the takeoff a little closer and changed the tranny. it should be more lofty now and need alot less speed.

can't wait to get the second jump up and get the new flow going! and if we get enough snow out of this storm we just might pull the staircase in that line and add a third jump for a 30ft triple line.

The jump is legit. I only wish I had that radar gun in hand when hitting it though, over shot it second hit. yeah for progress and snow! way to go eric.

The idea with the radar gun is to save us time making sure we get the right jump in the right spot the first time. moving jumps after they are built sucks and is a huge waste of time. The topography of Boreal(a whole lot of steep followed by a whole lot of flat and much less access to snow in the best jump locations) has always made it difficult to place jumps and judge speed(long before I ever got here). Now being able to know how much speed is possible in a given location we can use computer program I made a few years ago to design the correct jump for that speed. If anyone rembers the 60ft to 80ft quad line we built at June for the last ParkaSauras, that line was built the same way except we paced riders with a snowmobile to get the speeds for the program. That line still stands as pretty much one of the best BIG jump lines ever. Proof that all of this works is in that issue of Freeze.
