Boreal park

if you've been what's your opinion on the park? i've heard mixed reviews of it and im so damn anxious to get up there i can't wait to find out on my own

way fun kinda wish they would put some bigger rails in (like that s rail in the dirt cough cough) but other than that its dope sauceill be up there today... oh fuck its 3ampeace

We have changed or added something to the park 6 out of the now 8 days we have been open. But it is what it is..14 features on a beginner run, at the only area open in tahoe in early november. Sorry Jamie if you are bored with the best early season park tahoe has ever had :-) I doubt any of the big rails will make an appearance soon..no snowmaking forecast for atleast a week and we need to preserve as much snow as possible to maintain the current setup to see us through this warm up so its mostly likely going to remain a box fest for awhile. Those rails are all atleast 10ft longer than what we have on the hill and it would require wiping out those breakovers to make them fit. I dont want to touch that snow until it might absolutly be neccessary. We hope to bring out the second c-box tonight. Also planning on swithcing out the old staircase with one from JPI4 for the weekend. After the weekend we will start changing out some more of the features to get some of the kinked boxes maybe even the dance floor into play.

boreal's been killin it this year, and i think we need to give the park staff credit and appreciation for all the hard work they've put in already. last weekend they filled in crater bomb holes and fixed/re-fixed lips to features too many times to count. thanks boreal! thoreal!

major props on all the work youve done eric. I have never seen boreal so prime this early! keep up the good work man.
the only thing I want to mention is that the some of the lips are really narrow, like on the stair set, making it hard to trick on from the right side of the rail...

i got wrecked my knee today fucking around on the up boxi couldnt even drive home and im on crutches now!no skiing for me for awhile...

i saw you laying on the ground and it looked pretty bad but i didnt see the actual fall. +vibes your way hope you heal quick.

But as for the park ive been there 6 days now and im not even slightly bored with it, by far the best early season set up ive ever seen/hit.

Everyones been killing it and i've already learned tons of new stuff+ relearned practically everything from last year, really fun vibe.

Oh and the jump was sooo sick today, for as small as it is that thing is soo much fun.

Today was the best day in the park yet!! everything was sooo fun!

and Jearbear, i saw you being all hurty on the ground, hope you get better quick

just an update seeing I kinda laid out a plan of changes starting with tonight. we had to spend all of our time repairing the actual run between features this evening so we didn't get to bringing out the second c-box like I said we would for tomorrow. we might have to wait for saturday for any change up to the park. we have high hopes that the east wind is going to blow out the inversion tonight and give us a few hours of marginal snowmaking. I know the forecast says otherwise but our private/paid forecaster has a gut feeling in our favor. I descided it was best to wait for any possible snowmaking tonight before we make a change up. I will promise that the kinked staircase from JPI will be out within a few days..that one takes less snow than the one currently in play so that will be an easy change up and by now everyone's game should be on point and ready for the big kink!

thanks for all the love, just make sure all you boreal locs hold it down in the park when im out!big ups to boreal for putting out so much jibs before everyone else even opensdef hit up boreal if you can.

yeah i ripped the heel peice outta my 9ths today so ill be out till i can find some alternative skis or get money to fix em.

oooo dude i saw you do that. i think i asked if you were ok from the lift. is ok? u didnt like do the old ACL did u?

anyway today was the hottest day at boreal yet. i figured it would be kinda poopy. NO WAY! today was the most fun i've had yet. sooo sick, the maintianed so well. Boreal you are killing it!!!!!

legit. if its "poopy" (great wording btw) that just means less speed checking which im down for.

damn ppl are throwin down early in the season and messin themselves up!

the weather if definitively not cooperating.... but the park is super fun despite the craters

yeah..those craters....uuuuhhhh..yeah

today the snow hit its saturation point and its not really snow anymore even though there is still quite a bit of(especially compared to past openings). we tried to do the staircase swap but we couldn't get the new one in place as everything was too soft and there is alot of water under the snowpack.

we have a new plan because of tonight's turn of events. Hollywood it still up there grooming everything as is like we last did night. tomorrow both of us will start over from scratch and pull everything so we can get at the still good snow that is in all of the rail breakovers. we may end up not putting everything back right away but rather stagger the lines( by taking out every other feature) so some of the areas hardest hit will get a days break from being bombed by basically being turned into wait/drop zones for the following feature. if that works we will probably alternate day to day which features are pulled and which are replaced until colder weather returns. the jump may have to be the first feature to go and not return until colder weather.

Our forecaster was off on his gut feeling that the east wind would hook us up with a snowmaking window the other night..instead we had 38* with fog. he is currently saying that this weekend will be warm with a slight break come tuesday and a possible pattern change at weeks end with storminess leading to T-giving weekend.

if we have to cut back to only ten features which are the ones you guys would most like us to save?

we could throw the dance floor(12x20ft flat wall w/coping all 4 sides) in the mix, it hasn't been out yet and if set as a true dance floor wouldn't need much snow and probably wouldn't get bombed out bad in this warm weather.

let hear what you guys think.

bummer about the temps but thanks for still doing your best. boreal was still sweet today despite the slush. my favorite features are the flat rail, down rail, down box, corrugated down tube, staircase, and c-box. so if there's any way to salvage those, that would be sweet!

get rid of the flat or the up, or both, (boxs) and that tube to tire thing isn't too much fun for skiers...

but the down tube is a keeper forsure.

that sucks about the weather....

my fav was the jump (and hitting like a hip was super fun)... but it makes sense to knock down the jump first :(

im not the best at boxes and rails... especially at the beg of the season.. so i vote to keep a couple of the easier features... the flat box, or rail.. and or that up box

i had a blast there this week... i just hope more snow is coming soon!!!!!!! :)

I would say the corrugated tube to tire bunk would be a great thing to leave. The landing is right before the ever so popular flat rail which is consistently sessioned all day. There have been plenty of run-in's with people waiting to drop in on the rail and people coming off of the tire. I feel the rail is the more popular of the two and thus should stay. It would also avoid many more collisions and resulting "bro" fights

totaolyl agree...i hate having to hike the flat rail and when u get to the top snowboarders are just zoomin off that tube to tire setup and almost wreck you or just snake you.......but boreal is sooo sick these days....ive gone sooooo much

The park rebuild is complete! Go check out the park blog. I think you guys/gals are gonna freak when you see the new setup. Came out way better than expected and we found so much more snow in hidden places. The new setup is defintiely a bit more tech and we replaced the orange kidzx rails with the bigger polkadot rails and brought of the dancefloor. I think we covered just about everyones wishes on this one. It we lose the battle with the heat this week is wasn't without a fight.

like i said in the update. your a god among park builders...now all you have to do is turn all of the run-off water into wine.

i love the rebuild, so fun.

My only criticism would be on the first dual flat box feature, its really not at all useable by skiers and thats a bit frustrating, then also if the down green tube was seperate from the dance floor so you could hit either or that would be allllllot more fun.

But overall, soo sick.

yeah i agree about the dual flat boxes for sure. but i kinda like the dancefloor/downtube combo. it's a unique challenge!

i hate my flakey friends... i would've been up there but all my friends told me at 10 the night before that their mom's said they couldnt cuz of some school thing this morning, and the slave drivers (aka my parents) won't let me drive up alone. glad to hear it was fun tho

eric- can you change the side by side boxes to a flat to down combo. I think that would be super fun... especially if there was a side urban entrance option on the side!

Jex-

We changed those boxes last night to better accomodate skiers but they are still podium boxes. I really want to give this box combo a chance to work. But if we cant get it with another change tonight if needed then we'll try something totaly new.

we're just trying really hard to keep things interesting..well at least as interesting as we can make it on a beginner run with 11 jibs and a jump :-) I posted the following over on the park report but I'll say it here as well. We pretty much have all of tahoe/reno riding up here on just these 12 features. For early season everyone is already on there winter game and expectations are high for us to change stuff and keep it challenging. Only problem is if we dont get something not quite perfect the first time it sticks out like a sore thumb to all the riders because we dont have enough features out for how big the crowd it right now. But please...keep the feedback coming in so we can get it perfect when we do slip up. Also it would rad if you guys went over to the park website and filled out an online survey.

thanks

Sounds like a plan. I think It can be a fun feature for any rider in general, I was just a little antsy for a flat to down jib.
On a different note, I don't think you should ever have to worry about building a "skier" friendly feature vs. a "snowboarder" friendly feature. I acknowledge the fact that some features may indeed be easier for one or the other, but I think they should be built as a feature that would be fun to hit regardless of what type of snow stick you are using. Both sports have progressed so much and thus so have the abilities of riders. With that being established, I think it's fair to say that both Skiers and Snowboarders should be able to attemp any sort of set-up. It's how both sports develop and evolve. My point being that in the past, people (including myself) have complained because there was no lip for a jib, or the feature would only accommodate snowboarders. I think that time has passed and from now on every features should be recognized as a new challenge, not a item for complaint.
With all that being said, I really do look forward to all of the creative new set-ups as well as the regular favorites. Now all thats left to come is some cold temps and snow, whether it be made made or a product of mother nature.

keep the current box combo por favor. way more fun for snowboarders.. who generally out number the skiers.. plus the flat down sitch will just cause more mike wilsons to do double backys

maybe next to the flat rail or the c box, you could just put a nice flat box for people to get their skills back or practice new tricks. The dual boxes don't serve much purpose to skiers. And I like the idea of separating the green tube and the dance floor. Everything else is super dope.

one of the boxes is higher than the other so you can just hit the flat box.

i love boreals park rebuild. everythings perfect

the park was so much fun today! definitely stoked on the rebuild.
only thing is the stair set seems super steep for some reason, maybe thats just me?
