Thats right. Boreal just announced that they will be trying to open this upcoming friday October 29th.

yeeee

I will most definately be there. I'm in truckee right now and it's been raining all day and there's just more coming. Stoked!

$99 College pass....who's getting one?
I live out in Idaho for school, but will spend a month of winter break in SF Bay Area/Tahoe + Thanksgiving week and Spring Break...I'd def make it worth it if I got the pass....Just trying to decide...
Does Boreal have any hikable pow runs or anything fun besides just the park? I've been there plenty of times to ride park but if I got a pass I'd want to explore around if possible.

Nope, Boreal has a park that you can ride at night in the middle of the season. Oh, and a parking lot. That's about it.

Shows how little you know about the terrain in the area...

I can show you terrain with in 10 minute hike that will make you wet yourself.

I meant in-bounds. There's great stuff that descends to Donner Lake but I wasn't thinking about it, plus you sort of need a ride to get back

Yeah, I've ridden Boreal prob 30+ days in my lifetime so I know what its all about, I've just never explored hiking options, ect. Far lookers right from the top lift seems like there could be some fun in the trees....but I've never really gone far over there, and most my days there are early/late season and night skiing

1. Buy $99 college pass2. Drive 6 hours friday morning from Idaho to Boreal 3. Ski friday opening day (hopefully make pow turns)4. ??????5. Profit.
what do you guys think?

Awesome plan. Right now I'm having trouble convincing my mom to call me in sick to school on friday, she thinks "October is not for skiing, it's completely pointless to go. I'm not letting you waste your time skiing on fake snow this early"

haha, my mom was generous enough to let me cut school in highschool when I lived in SF and drove up to Tahoe for day trips at Sugar Bowl...but october is a little early, she prob wouldn't have let me either haha...
getting your ski fix in = more paying attention in class = better grades. Tell her this formula works.

Grades aren't a problem, the principle of skiing in october is. Plus she doesn't want her baby to get hurt... fuck good parenting.

it's official: we are opening on Friday 9am - 4pm, with a night session from 5pm - 8pm. more info coming soon. just wanted to keep ya up-to-date.

Sick! From the Boreal site:

The upgrades to the snowmaking system have paid off. Even with less than ideal snowmaking conditions, Boreal is ready to get the West Coast's first skiers and riders on-snow. Boreal will start the weekend with one lift, the Nugget Double Chair, then also open the Castle Peak Quad for Saturday and Sunday.

On Friday, October 29th only, Boreal will be offering Frickin' Friday for All, $15 lift tickets. For the first time ever, Boreal will offer the college discounted day for everyone to celebrate opening day.

All season passes will be accepted during the first weekend of operations (including College and SuperSaver passes). After this weekend, restrictions will be enforced. Night season passes are valid during the day until official night operations begin.

Don't have your pass yet? The Last Chance Season Pass sale ends October 31st, where you can save up to 30% off your season pass. Order online now, or better yet...come up to Boreal...buy a pass...and begin your season.

JPI.6 - The Jibassic Public Invitational will take place Friday, October 29, 2010 from 5pm - 8pm. Boreal will host an opening celebration under the lights, handing out $1,000 in $10 bills to people on the mountain having a good time. Come out and celebrate the beginning of the ski/board season.

yeah, just Nugget on Friday because we are not 100% on getting Castle Peak. I know it's not perfect, but it's better than nothing. If we can get more for you we will.

JPI.6 = october shred fest. We will be handing out $1k on the mountain in $10 bills for tricks, spills and good times.

PS- we will allow college and SuperSaver passes, this weekend only. After this weekend all restrictions will be enforced. Night passes will be valid during the day until night operation officially begin (don't worry JPI does not count as the beginning of night ops)

as we set stuff up today on the biggest little chair in the west and tomorrow on Castle Peak...we will be posting more details on features at www.borealterrainpark.com

Damn... I'm about to miss Boreal opening day for the first time in like 3 or 4 seasons right now...
Only Nugget though. Kinda rough, but i guess you end up hiking features anyway on opening weekend due to the slowness of castle peak anyway right?

yeah only Nugget for during the day on Friday. Then opening Castle at 4pm.

We wanted to get them both, but are concerned about burning thru all the snow on Castle since it will be so warm today.

Sat and Sun look cooler, though, so the snow should last.

right now it's:

down box

mini down rail

mini flat-down rail

the crew will be working to add features to Castle which opens at 4pm. I know eric was talking about a c-box and some other rails, but not sure what he has settled on.
