Boreal Hip cutter

http://www.borealterrainpark.com/?p=867

Work resumed on the hip cutter last week and its getting closer to

being completed. It’s only taken 15yrs of dreaming to get it to this

point. Ever since I hand shoveled my first hip while working for MHSC

(Mount Hood Snowboard Camp) back in 1994 this contraption has been

burning in my mind. It’s been a long time coming for the right

combination of time, resources, knowledge and support to come together

to allow the creation of the first purposefully built and only hip

cutter in the world. It will be worth the wait…better later than never!

Just got off the phone with Cooper and it sounds like we are tied. He's still got some bugs to works out on his and mine will be done tomorrow. Guess the race will be to see who uses theirs in snow first...hah

I should have never shown Cooper my plans last year!

looking sick Cooper...sneaky little B@#$% you! Oh well, if anyone was going to give me a run for my money then no better person than you. I still need to paint mine and its snow cat is next up out of the shop from summer service. Hey, call me about that mount when you get a chance. I didn't cut if off yet but I got close up pictures of it for you. You can actually see it in the second picture.

Wow, that guy standing in front of it really makes a difference in realizing how big it actually is. Boreal is going to be a freakin hip heaven! Cant wait!

it isn't not worth getting a patent as the only that is patentable is the shape. Zaugg, Snow Turbo and Pipedragon all own the patents related to three proven cutting technologies..chain drive paddles, Hasple cutters and the combination of the two. You can patent the shape but all someone has to do is change it by only a few inches to avoid infringement.

oh the love of contract and patent laws. Something I get a healthy dose of on a daily basis. Even if you did patent it, and someone infringed on your idea, you'd have to round up the funds for an Army of attorneys and hope they bring you to victory. I could go on.... but I won't. Fact of the matter is that it's a sweet idea and it will benefit the shred community across the board. I think you should at least name it though to preserve your idea, like "The Rosenwald Hip Shaper."

no need for that..I'll just leave it as the BHC (boreal hip cutter). If it goes well as planned this winter I'll probably take my two months off next summer to build a few of these to sell. Atleast that way I can make some descent money on the side :-)

For something that can be groomed every night without having to double step or push in a road to cut from then the biggest we can go is about 22-24ft ft tall and 65degree bank. Any taller and stepper and we are in the realm of one off special features that can not easily be groomed night after night...at that point the machine becomes an almost pure building tool rather than a night grooming tool.

We have a lot of ideas for tranny and hip features below the super pipe this year as well as multiple hips out on Dutchman in the SHRED park.

just some sketches at the moment. I'll draft some up on the computer tomorrow night to post...will give me something to do to stay wake in between checking guns on snowmaking duty.

So is this thing just going to sit and rust in the parking lot for years to come? What happened to the effort you guys were putting into the park and your website? Just seems to have died off...

i think you guys should just scrap the whole thing and put it in a jib line cus it seems like way too much work to make a hip. I always thought boreal was the fun mountain that had jibs scattered every where, what happened to rail alley and all that??! all im gonna say is you guys should cut the crap and make the jumps big and all the same size so its not so hard to judge the speed all the time and put in atleast half of the rails that sit and rust in the parking lot and scatter them around the mountain.realtalk
