i was just in nyc last weekend and there were aton of bootlegged movies. my question is do they even play or are they just people with cameras inside the theater or whatever.

 
depends...if they're in theaters now, then chances are they have subtitles on them from asia or are from inside the theater w/shitty quality. if its on vhs they play, but i'd watch that you're not getting set up by the mpaa

yeah the man that gets me all the movies i want recently got caught by the mpaa, but they just said dont do it again, so he just got his ip address changed and he keeps doign it

and adam, about movies in theaters, you just have to know where to look, like my friend can get DVD rips of movies in theaters.

uuhh d00d cut down on the paranoia...the mpaa isn't trying to setup someone who is buying a single fucking movie!

oh...and by the way, you can't get DVD rips of movies that are in theatres. Anyone that tells you that is just dumb. You can get studio rips of movies, or telesyncs which have pretty close quality.

yeti, if you kept up w/the news better you'd know more about the mpaa. how about this shit. MPAA tries to get immunity for cybercrimes. MPAA tries to prevent homerecording of televisions. or maybe MPAA attacking isps or finally and this is my favorite MPAA tries to make all digital to analog converts illegal...that includes the little converter on the back of your video card on your dual head display in case you have 2 crt monitors. just b/c you're paranoid, doesn't mean they're not out to get you.

unless you have a t3 edu dumpsite, html warez site with direct downloads, or a cd press in a breakaway russian republic i can 100% Guerentee the mpaa isnt going to waste its time on you.

Like piot said, it's a waste of their time and money to go after single people. They are after groups like centropy and fairlight who spit out high quality rips and cams...these are the people the MPAA is really afraid of, not some j0e in his basement burning a copy of spiderman that took him six days to download off of kazaa.

Just because the motion picture association of america WANTS to make something illegal doesn't mean it's going to be made illegal. They tried the same thing with the vcr and betamax when they first came out...and i am pretty sure you can go down to your local walmart and buy a vcr for like $50.

Spreading this sort of garbage is what makes people paranoid that they are constantly being watched. Calm down, what is done is done and if they really are watching you, you have no reason to be paranoid cuz you're already fucked.

whoa some chinese guy came into work the other day and i bought a bootlegged movie signs with mel gibson.. good quality.. that movie is scary as hell.. i am so scarwed of aliens now

you can download a lot of HQ shit off of Kazza and other file sharing programs. people leak good copies of the movies from the productions company all the time.

i downloaded a really high quality Jay and Silent Bob when it was still in the theater. You could tell it was a real version, not filmed in the theater.

yeah they are all studio rips, they arent impossible to find but yuo need to know the right people and have access to some good irc servers

i heard that people go into the movie in the city late night and they bring a tripod and a camera and then the put a jacket around it and a hat on top to make it look like a person.

Actually for most of you the bill currently in the house has backing from both parties in congress and looks like it will pass. This would make it LEGAL for a copyright holder to hack your compter and delete any 'questionable' files that they find. One thing they are also talking about amending to the bill is a limit of $50 worth of damage per file they find on your computer that is illegal. So if you have 100 mp3's that are illegal then they could trash your computer and you would be SOL.

I don't want people to say shit like, They are only trying to scare you. They tried to scare you when they shut down napster. I know this isn't like some of the other forums I check but people are getting ready for a full out war against the RIAA and the MIAA. Hmmmmmmm wonder why the RIAA's website was down all weekend. People aren't fucking around, so don't act ignorant like they are.

you do know none of this is constitutional, which is exactly why it could happen. hacking into your computer to look for copywrited files falls under the category of ILLEGAL SEARCH AND SEIZURE. dont be surprized if the swat team shows up at your house and breaks down your door looking for CD-Rs and blank VHS tapes. i might not know alot about the MPAA, but i do know how the goverment continually breaks more and more laws that our forefathers set down in a little document called the CONSTITUTION.

First of all. The record industry is citing the major cut back of cd sales as a need for this law to be passes. Last year was the first time blanks out sold pressed cd's. The RIAA's income has taken a major hit for this and they are trying to take the easy way out. They have also teamed up with the MIAA to gain more of a push in the house and senate (I mean what rep from Cali would vote no to a bill which would support hollywood?).

The gov't is doing everything they can to try to stop the recession (which is actually over but the market is just in shit because of sept 11 and the corperate fraud). Which is why this bill will be passed.

I also do realize that it is un-constitutional but there is really nothing that will happen soon enough to stop it. Because they can not investigate a bill but only a law. The process they have to go through also will take a while. Which will be long enough for them to do lasting damage to p2p networks and personal computers.

i agreed with andy and im agreeing with prins as well, it very well could happen, dont ever underestimate how unconstitutional our government can be. thing is if they start hacking into random peoples computer searching for this its gonna turn into a full on hacking war, like prins said
