Bootfit help

Alright, this is kind of a long story, more like a theory actually

about my boots, and I want to know, from any boot fitters here, if the

story sounds logical and plausible.

In 2002ish I decided to buy some new ski boots. I went to a shop and

after measuring my foot the guy brought out a pair or Blue Raichle

Flexon Comps (with the kniessl logo on the tounge, but everywhere else

it said Raichle on it). He said they were the last pair, left over from

a few years ago, and that they were my size. This was size 27. I had

been using some old rear entry boots up until this point, the size was

much smaller than I had been skiing, but overall they were a great fit,

so I bought them. I was glad to be out of a rear entry boot. Looking at

these boots it appears they have an Intuition liner in them which was

molded to my foot without a footbed. I had a fun time in these boots, I

occasionally had black toenails, which for a while I thought was

because of too tight of a fit or something. I never had any other

problems with that boot (besides people making fun of me for being in

such an old boot, which didn't really bother me).

In 2006 I decided it was again time to buy some new boots. I was

convinced that the size 27 was too small for me and that was the reason

I was having black toe. At this time, I was still kind of oblivious to

all the facts of ski boots, and have since learned a ton from boot

fitters etc. Anyway. I was fit into a size 26.5 Tecnica Diablo

Magnesium boot by all the boot fitters. I am a very aggressive skier,

and have always skied in Utah, but since I was in High School during

2001-2004 and was living out of the country from 2004-2006 I hadn't

ever really invested in powder skis, although powder was my favorite

discipline. The 2006 season was going to be my first real powder only

year. I skied snowbirds terrain park occasionally, but really didn't

ski park much at all. I focused really on skiing the mountain. I bought

some 4Frnt VCT's and loved them as my first powder ski. I have been

skiing powder my whole life, but it seemed that my new boots were

causing me quite a bit of pain, and not from being size 26.5. My arch

was in so much pain over half the time that I almost threw up several

times. So, at the beginning of this season, I decided to invest in some

footbeds. I got some surefoots, since I was able to get a deal on them,

and thought it would cure my problem. They did. But they brought a

whole new deal of problems, First they were taking up too much room in

my toe box, causing my circulation to be cut off. I asked them to trim

them and trim them but nothing helped. Finally a guy took my boots from

me and ground the natural arch and some of the cork off of my boot

board. Now my toes had circulation. I was skiing park this year since I

now have a PC and an Alta pass and frankly missed park skiing. I came

up short on a few tables and bruised my heel pretty bad (which I kind

of thing is a mixture of the hardness of surefoot footbeds and having

some of the cork removed from my bootboard) (THAT IS ONE THEORY I WISH

TO HAVE COMMENTED ON). My next question is this. When I switched from

Flexon's to Tecnicas, I did notice that I could ski switch a little

easier with a stiffer tounge to lean forward against, and I noticed

that I was able to straightline crud a ton better (although this might

have been due to fatter/stiffer skis, more than due to a stiffer boot).

If I were to get a pair of Full Tilt boots next year with a super stiff

tounge would I have the same support needed for charging super hard at

Alta and Snowbird? Also, How many of the above problems do you think I

can blame on my boots? And what other solutions would you recommend for

my problem?

I have surefoot orthotics as well, I definately can feel the hard landings with these in my boots(tecnicas). I have also skied fulltilts with my orthotics in them and will probably go back to them...they are more forgiving. they do have a more similar flex to the raichle? you spoke of, however, I do not find them limiting for skiing. with the full tilts however, a very stiff big mountain ski could overpower this boot in crud. Dunno if I really made any conclusions, but mostly observations. At the end of the day it is likely I am going to quit skiing and snowboard because of boots and pain.
