Boot Question

yes, yes, i know, GO TO TEH BEWTFITTURZ LOL and i WILL DO THAT but first i want to know which ones to look at because my shop has a very limited supply of all boots so i need to have a general idea so they can hopefully bring a few pairs into stock so i can try them out (my shop likes me (: )
if it matters, 170 lbs, 6 ft, feet prob stopped growing

i currently ride tecnica race 110's and they're getting a bit small but im gonna squeeze into them for racing this year. that being said they hurt like a bitch when im doing anything other than racing, like riding in trees especially or crud and shit so i need a new freeride boot to hit up on those off days
my problem:most good boots have a 98mm last...my feet are pretty wide. the tecnicas have a 98mm last and they're totally comfy until im riding super hard in them and doing lots of turns and slamming my feet into the sides of the boots but for a 98mm last they're super manageable. now im not sure if shell work can get a 98mm to be okay for me in trees and shit or if i actually need a wider boot
my next problem:okay, 100-105 mm last, wider boot, cool...wrong. most boots i've been looking at with a wider last are soft and poopy, like 100 flex. i want something that's like 120 or 130, my 110's even feel soft at times even with boosters...basically i shred so unbelievably amazingly hard that i need something absolutely awesome to compliment my awesomeness...but seriously, i want something stiff
so if i were to go with a 98mm boot i'd try out:full tilt seth prokrypton prosally ghost(i figure one of those will fit pretty well, 3 very different boots and companies so hopefully one works for me)
if i were to get something wider, i'd get:ummm...yeah, this is why i made a thread
so, wider boots with around 120 flex, the wider boots i know of are rossi but i've never liked those
im not sure if the tolerability of the tecnicas is enough to convince me to stop being a puss puss and just go for 98mm boots or if i should try to find something wider

I'm pretty similar, i've got a narrow heel, high instep, wide forefoot and 98mm boots fit me well everywhere but the forefoot(super annoying). So basically i need to punch a 98mm one or get a lower performance boot which sucks so i went with the punching approach.

Nordicas Speedmachine 14 is 100mm which could work for you, still a performance fit but a little bit wider than most. Good stiff flex, nice boot, probably a good thing to check out.

Got it- moldable shell sollys. I have Falcon CS Pros, 98 last but moldable on the sides..and for 2010 there is a moldable 100 lasted boot(also stiff, impact pro I think) and a 102 and maby a 104, all in stiff flex's(check salomonsports.com ). They are all like wider Falcons which are great boots. Very adjustable, and start with a low instep so you can use any footbeds easily. Get intuitions and footbeds with them, though.

Tecnicas are soft boots in general.

Look into some Nordicas. I sell these all day long. The plastics are really temp sensitive though, they are soft indoors, but get them out on the hill and they stiffen up real quick.

this, my nordicas are only 90 flex, but ive riveted them up into maybe a 110-ish flex and they rip, super comfy, super warm,

i used to race so my last boot before these was an older lange with a 130 flex and i gotta say, a little softer aint that bad.

in terms of 98mm last boots are there some that feel narrower than others? this is post molding also, i know a lot of boots have thick liners that compact when baked

if you want to go a bit wider try the Dragon 120. Similar (albeit more anatomic) fit to what you have now, but 100mm last.

theres so many good boots out, and i'm sure a good fitter will make something work for you.

dragon 120 is soooooft though. Anything thats going to be stiff is going to need work to get you into it if you need a last wider than 95-98mm

yep and i'm willing to put in the cash to get work done, i just want a solid boot that will fit decently well before i get it worked on

i found the dragon stiffer flexing than the speedmachine... but as a whole, everything is really getting a lot softer flexing.

i mean i don't need something that refuses to flex but i like a lot of support, i absolutely hate soft boots
these are gonna be used for hard freeriding so they need to support me well, i'm looking for a true 110 or 120

I think there are like shops you can go into and the guys there measure your feet and shit and figure out what fits you. I don't know I might be talking bullshit.

clever way at being a bitch, i already acknowledged the fact that i would visit one of those people, i just happen to live in a place that is even harder to find than the middle of fucking nowhere so i have VERY limited options on bootfitters. i can drive 2 hours to a surefoot which i will do but i want some form of idea to prevent multiple trips

Drive, talk to them and let them do their job. Don't take advice from people online. Except what I just said...
