Boot question: Ace of Spades vs. Konflict

Hi there!

I know this is one of those dreaded boot questions that I fear of asking the internet for. I'm going with it anyways.

Lets start with me, I'm 6'2", 170lbs, and will be 20 by the end of this season. Aggressive big mountain skier. So I'm looking for a stiff boot. For the past 3(?) years I have been wearing a pair of Nordica Sparks. Not that practical to have a soft park boot for a big mountain skier. Last season, I destroyed the boots, Tore out rivets, smashed buckles. The boots have been destroyed and thrown out.

With ski season coming up in about 2 weeks, I am beginning to panic. I've taken the first step, and gone to boot fitters. I have narrowed my choices down to the Nordica Ace of Spades and the Full Tilt Konflicts, (Salomon Ghost is also an option, $100 less, the fit is there, just not as comfortable though).

I want to avoid going for a price point boot, the Ghost is fitting, just a pain to get in and out of. I have done research on all boots, yet I am still torn between the two.

So I turn to NS, or the people who have had experience with these boots. I'd love to know the pros and cons of each boot from your personal experience.

Thank you, feel free to ask any further questions, I feel I might have missed out on something.

Love, Mason

You took up a bootfitter's time and effort and then still ask internet people to help pick your boots? Go back to the dude and let him do his job, that's what you're paying him for.

By the way though if the only thing that you don't like about the Ghost is the in/out just cut the shoelace thing off. Or just deal with it. Or get the X3 instead.

This is actually a lie.

I'm terribly sorry, my bad. I haven't gone to a boot fitter.

I meant I've properly tried on boots at the two local ski shops.

Hope that clears stuff up

All I'd like to know is what people think of the boot from personal experience, pros and cons.

I didn't find the lace up a pain on the Ghost, I found that getting into the boot is a very tight squeeze.

THIS!

If your local shop has a bootfit guarantee, then what's the problem? If history is any kind of an indicator you won't get very good advice on here

or.....

take a pic of your smashed up old boots and send it into that full tilt "show us your boots comp"

might walk away with a free pair

I always thought the ace of spades was a park boot but it says capable for big mountain. I guess they're not too soft then. I really want to try on the ace of spades but they're really expensive. I did try on a pair of hot doggers and they felt great.

From what I've been told, the Ace of Spades ranges from 100-130 in flex. The more forward pressure and tension that is put onto the boot, the stiffer it gets.

I think that is how it works.

yeah I think I heard that too. I also thought I saw onenerdykid (apparently very knowledgeable) say something about it. I don't remember if he said it works, or if he said it doesn't work.
