Boot bag for travel?

I'm going to be doing a bunch of travelling this winter with my boots, helmet, goggles, outerwear etc. I don't own a proper boot bag but I'm planning on buying one. The dilemma is that I may have to check my luggage some of the time. Are boot bags (backpack style) protective enough to be checked, or will the helmet get crushed?

Would any of these options work:

Dakine 50L backpack:https://www.corbetts.com/2021-dakine-50l-boot-pack/

Thule backpack:https://www.corbetts.com/2022-thule-roundtrip-55l-boot-backpack/

Dakine 75 liter:https://www.corbetts.com/2022-dakine-dlx-75l-boot-pack/

Would these all work, or does one of them stand out over the others. As long as it fits my helmet goggles and boots the size is fine. The big thing is will it be protective enough for being checked. Will the 55L and the 50 L fit as carryon's if I have the chance to? I want a backpack style one that i can take on runs to the local hill, but then also one that works for flying.

Any bag is a boot bag with the right attitude. I usually stick my boots with my skis in a check in bag though.

You can also use any normal backpack and then stick your boots across the top with the power straps on the outside. There's really little reason to get a boot specific bag imo. A 40-50L duffel works as a carry on or check in and will fit boots and be way more useful for other stuff.

I would never check a helmet.

So I used to sell boot bags and I found the backpack ones sucked for a lot of people. I’ll do you one better: get a backpack with sidestraps (like north face Hotshot) and attach your boots to each side upside down. That works the best I’ve found. Two straps to secure your boots on each side

I just strap them together then wear them around my neck so then everyone can see I wear full tilts

Strictly during travel or every day wear?

NEVER check your boots. Ever see the workers toss bags out of a plane onto the pavement? Imagine having to rent boots if they lost your boots too...

Boots count as a personal item. Take them on the plane everytime.

Edit: for me, boots, helmet, goggles, and gloves all go in carry on on. People bring medicine on the plane cuz they can't live without it if it's lost. Bring boots on the plane cuz you can't ski without them.

What bag do u have that fits all that AND fits over head? Going to CO in February and wanna do the same

i always travel with a duffel bag as my carry on and a large backpack as my personal item. put the boots in either one. bundle goggles, gloves, beanie, gator together and put in same bag. helmet is clipped to the straps of the personal item backpack that is allowed under seat in front of you. duffel can’t be too stuffed or they’ll make you check it so i put a lot of clothes in my ski bag

edit: past three years this is how i travel roughly 7 times per season

Boots don't need to go in a bag. I just use my ski backpack for the other stuff.

I have utilized my Dakine Boot blocker 69L on several flights. 10/10

I’ve travelled many times with my dakine 55l boot pack and my dakine heli pro dlx with my boots strapped on with the ski straps.

the boot pack is great for getting all your gear like boots helmet goggles etc in but there are limits to what else you can get in. Like you can get a med laptop in and charger and a few more bits but not a lot of bigger stuff

Using a heli pack and clipping your boots and helmet on is pretty good but isn’t as clean as the boot pack. The benefit to the heli pack is that you can get a bunch more bigger stuff in.

If you have to do a lot of walking, instead of having the backpack fully strapped it’s worth getting a small packable hold-all to put the boots in to carry before/after boarding, because they can move in the backpack straps and make it difficult to get stuff out when youre on the flight, stood in the aisle, trying to pull out your laptop, headphones, snacks etc. This way let’s you get your stuff you want at your seat in your hand for boarding, your boots on the pack and then you can just put your pack quickly overhead.

also one benefit of the heli pack set up is that if the person at the gate is strict about the bag size and you’re over, it’s easy to (threaten to) put your boots on for the flight.
