Books, I want books.

You probably have a few books you like, I want to know what they are so I can read them. I'm sort of at a dead end, a dead end of books. Post your favourite books.

Here are a couple of mine.

Red Kayak although I have not read for like 3 years. But Peter Abrahams is a great author!

i kind of enjoy reading about the crazy lives of rock stars.....all the sex, drugs, etc. The Heroin Diaries (Nikki Sixx) was a pretty good read. Pretty light reading....I think I read the entire book in a night.

The Game of Thrones books were pretty damn good, too.

There's a whole thread on this....I think it's called "What book is you reading"

oh ya that reminds me. if your into weird ass shit you gotta go with either 1984 or Clockwork Orange

here are a couple I like; note that I took no note of the books you listed cause I didn't recognize either of them.

cutting for stone - abraham verghese

an american childhood - annie dillard

to kill a mockingbird - harper lee

stranger in the kingdom + disappearances - howard frank mosher

my old man and the sea - david and daniel hays

the tipping point - malcolm gladwell

the omnivore's dilemma + in defense of food - michael pollan

pillars of the earth - ken follet

travels with charley - john steinbeck

the rise of theodore roosevelt + theodore rex - edmund morris

some books I've read over the last few years in a wide variety of genres.

Some others I really liked were Angels and Demons and the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo series, among others. The only problem with reading is it's not as social as following a tv show or watching movies. Still nothing beats a good book!

I've read all three of these.Good suggestions although clockwork orange may take a little getting used to. It is one of the best books ever though IMO.

one flew over the cuckoos nest and the hobbit are so damn good too. watch the movie after you read one flew over the cuckoo's nest! (and the 'it's always sunny in philadelphia' episode too haha). can't wait to see the hobbit movie too.

another great book is dancing at the rascal fair by ivan doig

A separate peace by john knowles was great

the catcher in the rye is good if you're feeling kind of emo; really good writing and the overarching metaphor is certainly something to learn from though. high school reading lists sucked at the time, but the books are usually pretty damn good when there isn't a deadline

Gotta go with the series I'm reading now. First book is The Passage, and I'm halfway through the second, called The Twelve, by Justin Cronin. I love his writing style, and that it's an almost completely fresh premise for a story.

I've always enjoyed Tom Clancy, too, even if I don't agree with his politics. The Jack Ryan series is good, as well as Red Storm Rising, Rainbow Six, and Without Remorse, which tell stories of reoccurring characters from the main series. Everything after those are just kind of bad.

Robert Ludlum is good too, although I don't find his writing to be super compelling.

if you want books, you should check out goodreads.com

that site is all about books, and it'll give you recommendations based on the books you've read or want to read

but here are some of my favorites:

Catcher in the Rye and Into the Wild were both pretty solid. Life of Pi, don't see the movie first though.

The last three good English books that I've read:

Just started in 1Q84, supposedly pretty good as well.

true, i just read it for a school assignment, needless to say it was a great book. Took some time getting the hang of nadsat glossary etc, but.. Oh well. Prolly gonna watch the movie tonight

Just finished this:

I'm kinda big on non-fiction (Lewis Thomas, EO Wilson, John McPhee, John Valliant) and this one is probably one of all time favorites. Fantastic book that looks at how confounded some our attempts at controlling our environment are:

Going After Cocciato - Tim O'Brian (I think it's Tim)

Into Thin Air - John Krakaur

As Far as My Feet Will Carry Me - Josef Bauer

My threads. Really want to start reading more but really don't know where to start/ don't see any titles that stick out to me

there's no way you actually enjoy reading that enough to recommend it. I mean sure, it can be entertaining, but there's no way it can be in anyone's top book list

Read anything by this guy, you may have seen the movie but read the book Michael Conelly's writing style is awesome.
