Bolton

Just out of curiosity, for next week's Night riders, what is a "four slope comp?" Is that the team slope style?

Just a little something I found today...

If you wanna know, find me on sunday.......T-Line!
And four slope = choose four features and stunt, you are judged like a slopestyle event.

It's a four feature slopestyle competition. Essentially you get two runs, best one counts. First four features you hit are the ones you're scored on. You're allowed to hit others after those but you won't get points so plan accordingly. Also, tonight was super fun! Can't wait for next week!

Howdy all,
Still no MRI picture yet, but orthopedic doc said I also tore my ACL. Nothing's too painful which is good. I'll get in for some surgery in a couple of weeks and then doctor's words "you can be skiing 6mos after surgery", that will be July in Vermont so maybe not, but it will put me in good shape for Phish tour and the 2011/12 season.
I am hoping to come up next week for Night Riders, my mobility is getting better. I am already doing PT to keep my legs strong which will speed my recovery. Supposedly I'll "feel" %100 shortly after surgery even if my new ligament is not actually %100 yet, which is great, not much I need a strong knee for during mud season anyway.
My family has been really supportive of me while I am resting so much!

Hey, good to here from you Josh. Looks like your fam is extra supportive......hahahaha. And great news that you'll be in shape for the summer tours!
Anyway JJ is being rebuilt today.......two lines: skier's left is butter box and the 22' flat box w/ skate style lip, and skier's right is a flat down box (gap on style) and then the DFD box (skate style). The final center feature at the bottom is up for debate and we will decide on the fly this afternoon, but it'll be something involving the culvert or some blue barrels and perhaps some stalling.

Hi Nick,
For my own selfish reasons I hope you stay at Bolton next year because you are doing so awesome stuff with the parks this year and I want more of this awesomeness when I am back.
JJ sounds cool. I really like how you set up the skate style takeoffs.
I also saw you getting after some pretty sweet pow on BV's media page, maybe that will keep you this side of the Mississippi River for another season.

Thanks Josh......it's super nice to hear that the parks are improving, and I appreciate the compliment very much. As for staying around, I have no idea what the future holds, all I know is that I want to ski year round. So I'm gonna start by applying to be a digger at summer camps and see where that takes me. But the snow this year has been incredible and I'm super stoked on it......so who knows, but it is nothing against Bolton. It's just, I'm trying to make a living skiing and Bolton isn't exactly trying to help me do that at the moment. But I do love it here, so I would like to stick around if the circumstances become more favorable for next season. (maybe a new owner!)And Josh, I think a have your #, but I'll PM you mine if you think you are going to come up for four slope this week. I'll put you in touch with RJ and maybe you can help judge the skiers, lord knows we need a skiing judge.-Nick

Oh yeah, free rail jam this saturday in JJ.......come and destroy our new set up, along with all the joeys who show up for mass vacation week!

How's the setup looking for tomorrow? Is it going to be completely bulletproof or are we gonna have some snow to land on?

I rode with the groomer yesterday morning and got the park nice and dialed for you guys today, the step-downs are looking nice, the tables were tough because of the amount of windblown snow (but cam out ok), and the hip needs to be hand shaped (which the other nick will do this morning). Other than those few details the park is looking nice and should be only semi-bombproof as the temps should be around 25.

Will do. Also, comming up today, I'm very excited... Todays the day to learns some flippy spinny things.

those are so sick! i hear that the damage repair process from yesterday has started (it snowed). i'll be up for the box jam hopefully.

You should've come, it was so fun! The setup went from firm to ice by the end of the day though, haha.

Hey, Thanks to everyone for showing up yesterday! It went really well, so well that we are talking about doing at least one more sometime this spring. When around 40 kids show up to do a rail jam when the mountain's closed (basically), people notice and it makes a difference at a small place like BV. So huge thanks again for the support! See you guys this week, and I rode with the groomer last night so the large park should be in fine shape (minus the big side of the stepdown, wedge still needs work),-Nick

that's a lot of the reason i didn't go.
oh and nick i found the top of the cliff line off of solitude that we were looking at, plus really sick line that someone cut to the left of that, right of the waterfall. it's going the be so fun when there's actually snow.

Nice! We just need some snow now.....I can't wait to check those line out. Hopefully there is some stuff headed our way at the end of the week. And I think the wedges for the step down will be re pushed this morning, so it looks like butterscrotch will be back in full this afternoon!

Going to Bolton for the first time this weekend and wondering what runs i should definitely hit, we're probably going to stay out of the park so any help would be much appreciated!

Check out the Jungle Jib after its rebuild. There is the amazing barrel goal post; we'll be looking for the best end zone dance. Hurray for contribution!

Sorry you must have not realized that people usually quote when responding to specific posts.......Look below I'll give you an example or at this post, as it is a fine example as well.

If the snow is good definitely hit up spillway. Due to it's location it keeps the best snow on Bolton valley. I have never seen an inch of ice on spillway. If you don't like spillway, I'd hit up Cobrass. Like spillway it is one of my favorite runs

we found the sickest pow trail at bolton on friday. it requires enough of a hike to keep the crowds off, but is so worth it. not gonna say where it is, but nick- i'll take you there if you can get some time off from building those stepups (please?) tomorrow before the weather comes.

I wish....sorry man. Allison's wasn't here so I had to put my big boy pants on and be all in charge and stuff. But there will be more time, and more storms......just hope tomorrow isn't a wash out. If it's nice next weekend, I'm in for sure.

All snow up here (only a bit of mixed for a little yesterday, for like 2 min).......TLine was on wind hold all day yesterday, looks like I'll be getting some pow today!

such a relief. i was almost crying when we got freezing rain down here in the valley.

i'm pissed i can't make it up this weekend, but we're going to my camp in the Adirondacks. on the bright side, there's some really sick cliffs up there and hiking them is a definite possibility.

Good. So this means that the park won't be ice wednesday correct?

Also, is the rail jam in the big park or the jungle jib?

My skis are sitting in my basement with loads of epoxy drying out right now...

park should be good today....it was soft yesterday and it's about the same temp today, plus we are supposed to pick up and inch or two this morning as well.
I have no idea where they plan on holding the rail jam tonight.......jeremy and nick will probably let you guys use JJ, just ask real nice........
and I feel your pain on the epoxy, my thalls are slowly dying from tip destruction (they also got super soft in the last week or so), but Jason Leventhal happens to ski at bolton and he got me hooked up with a pair of Step Ups from skirack! Just gotta get em mounted now!
I LOVE LINE SKIS and SKIRACK!!!

Skirack is legit, and they are easily the best bootfitters in NW VT. They fitted a pair of boots on my wife that she didn't even buy from them.... but they spent 40min with her and got them dialed.
I am going under the knife in three weeks. My Physical Therapy is amazing I am back to walking and climbing stairs pretty much normal, I still need to get my ACL fixed and meniscus' trimmed to really ski well but I am hoping to come and ski before my surgery. If there weather is nice one of these next sundays I am going to come and do some cruising.....
I miss skiing so much.
I need more pics from the rest of you BV peeps though!

^ i'll try to get some to you tonight

looking ahead, what's the deal with the final nightriders? i want to do it, but unfortunately probably won't get to train between now and then

There was a good shot of me from tonight. Grabbing mute about 10-15 feet high... Over the DFD box... haha

Fun night, thanks again everyone!

heres some of the woods from a couple of weeks agoquality may not be the best on all of them, they're screenshots from gopro video

Aw shucks. I was really getting in to NR and riding with you guys. I'll probably still do it next year, but I probably won't push myself so much.

One of my favorite parts about skiing is that there is always a way to get better. There is always a way to push yourself, even if it's just a little at a time, and that's what makes skiing a sport with no limits. So, Josh, I hope this comes across in the right light and I don't mean to challenge or be offensive in any way. You ski for the right reasons, so keep pushing it; and if you'e not falling, you'e not trying. The bumps and bruises just last longer when you're our age.
Also, first day on my LINE step ups today.....super psyched! anybody gonna be around tonight for park laps?

Yessir. Should be fun...

The actual jump for the him looks a little poppy... Seems like it'll be impossible to get speed for...

Then again, I haven't hit it recently but I'll figure it out tonight I guess.
