tanner could not come close to keeping up with or matching anything Bode has accomplished...aerial gymnastics are cool, but is what Tanner does that much different than some "olympic aerial" event??

Love the new school skiing...but come on, as a skier you cannot compare the athleticism of a world cup racer vs a pot smoking huck monkey....

So everyone hates on racing but when faced with a decision on who is better at their particular aspect of skiing you choose the racer over the guy who is top of our game? Riiiiight that makes lots of sence! Fair enough you might not like tanner as a person (going on the tiny amount most of you know of him) but surly as newschool skiers none of you can deny he is an amazing guy to watch ski? So going on the skiing aspect (which is what the thread is about) i'd say without a doubt Tanner, but you're all entitled to your own opinion.

no doubt what tanner and guys like CR do IS legit! period...no question about Tanners ability, the guy killed it as a mogul skier and kills it as a huck monkey, but his skiing from a purely technical point of view is severly lacking.

no way he could keep up with my crew on a powder day at squaw...no way But you put Bode or Darron at the top of a run like Pony Express and they know how to point it out and ski real terrain

 
^I doubt that. Watch any ski film. The vast majority of the segments are filled with park hits and rails BUT there are enough big mtn. lines to proove that these guys are legit all arround skiers.

Success often walks side by side with sacrafice.

 
They're both pretty damn similar at being the best in their discipline. Both are the best at their chosen discipline. I believe that racing still has a considerably larger field competing for the US Team spots than slopestyle and pipe have competing for the x-games spots, so, theoretically I think that would make it tougher for bode than for tanner, giving the edge to bode.

Bode is probably farther ahead the rest of the crowd at his part of skiing. But Tanners part of skiing covers way more. Big mountain, BC, park, urban and anything extreme thats not racing is what tanner does, and all bode does is race. Also, tanners done a lot more for the progression of the sport... o wait, thts cuz racing isnt progressive at all. my bad. Bode is more dominat but Tanners a better skier.

 
^cool icon. Bode was doing mistys like six years ago, but I'm sure that his coaches have convinced him to stay grounded so he doesn't compromise his goals by breaking himself in a stupid accident. He is required to focus on racing... can't hold that against him as a skier

That's why I like freeskiing and not racing. Racing is so much off-hill excercising, weight training, etc., and freeskiing is all about balls, creativity, and time. It's brains over braun in my book, brothers.

^yea thts the basis of it. but dude if you saw the pros without all thr baggy clothes and shit, there all so stong. They have to work out every part of their bodies so much to be able to do the things they do. If you look in febuary's freeskier they say that the dumonts arms are bigger than most people's legs. To be one of the best in any kind of skiing you have to work out a lot.

 
bode wins because of his skills AND athletecism. There are plenty of more powerful world cup racers than bode, but his line with his skills are faster. Being on top of either discipline requires a brilliant mind.

its not just the skiing its the professional deication Off Hill that counts...its living and breathing the sport and tuning your body perfectly...

some freeskiers are totally down and work out and treat their bodies like the money making machines they are...those who hand out talk trash, snoke cigs and do nothign during the off season are only weekend warriors no matter how good they ski

if you want to be called a pro skier then you consider your self a professional athlete...and professional athletes live their sport its a lifestyle of dedication and progression

Bode is a consumate professional athlete...who would destroy nearly every one of you in the terrain park...

 
Bode is better at racing and Tanner is better and Twins. But Bode is dominant, tanner loses alot to Olson, gagnier, Schiller.

waynewong, don't underestimate the park skills of the kids on this site. Bode can do some stuff in the park, but he simply doesn't spend enough time there to destroy most of the skiers on this site. and also, smoking cigs also has nothing to do with which skier is better at what they do. Tanner does not fit your description of what a pro is.. yet he is most certainly a pro skier, and an exceptional champion at that!

Why can't we compare Bode to someone like Hugo or Seth? This is just a huge hatefest on Tanner where most of us compare apples and orange and a select few self-important idiots pass generalized judgment labelling freeskiers "pot smoking huck monkeys". Waynewong, if you actually think you could outski C.R. Johnson on a heli trip, you're sadly, sadly mistaken.

actually, bode did progress racing. All the race coaches in the world took a very close look at bode's technique and approach to racing and they are now coaching it. First they called it unorthadox, now they preach it

Both skiers are progressing their disciplines, Tanner's happened to have more room for progression and he was the man for the job. Let's see if freeskiing runs out of room for that kind of progression in the near future... and if it does, will you think the freeskiers are inferior for their lack of progressing their sport?

the thing to remember in thsi discussion is that freeskiing has a much smaller base than rracing. Becasue of this you must be better than millions of people in racing to be the best compared to thousands in freeskiing. There is just no comparison...mabey in years when freeskiing matches racing in popularity this will become a legitimate argument...but untill then, as jd said, you are just comparing apples to oranges

anyone who has seen yearbook knows that tanner looks really good in the air and looks like an idiot on snow. bode is more of an athlete, tanner more of a showman.

 
this is easy... which is more fun to watch a guy in a spandex suit tucking down a hill or people throwing huge tricks over 80 foot tables.

 
for those of you that sya that bode hasnt done ANYTHING for the sport, you should get your dong cut off. bode is a racer, racers go fast, so the demand for faster, better skies, came from racers, not backyard jibbers or huckmonkeys.

more people had fun watching bode make up the 2.7 seconds (roughly) in his olympic slalom run to win the combined title than all the people who watched tanner in all the years of winter x.

Tanner AND Bode are both ill and they both bring the heat. Both are fun to watch.

dont get me wrong, i watch bode all the time when he is on tv, and the guy is nasty, and is 'better at what he does' cause hes pretty much the best racer at the moment. I still prefer to watch tanner though.

This is a total waste of a thread. Tanner is the best at what he does, Bode is the best at what he does. Basicly this is a popularity contest about who likes racing and who like freeskiing. Bode couldn't compete with Tanner freeskiing and Tanner couldn't compete with Bode on a course.

 
You sure? They have a massive viewer audience for winter X... like, millions upon millions. I know a lot of people in Europe especially watch olympic downhill, but both have pretty big audiences.
