Bode Miller on Drunk Skiing

it would just suck to see ski racers become as big of spoiled egotistical pricks as NBA players
first off covering his ass by saying there are no laws against drinking and skiing has nothing to do with the fact, that according to his statement it's no worse then drinking and driving. Therefore he doesn;t have a problem with driving drunk.
second point in case what i did say about it coming back to get him, he said he likes to drink and ski. Do you think he ONLY races on the course by himself? That is the only time he is skiing? I bet he actually takes a couple runs, with his buddies and he is hanging out, he could be drinking then too. Putting other people at risk.
If someone like Bode was ripping around at Mach 10 Drunk, and hit someone.....
Being a professional skier, takes place on and off the ski hill. Sorry buddy. Whatever you do in your own time fan, drink, smoke, sniff coke, i couldn;t give a flying fuck. But when your setting down in a interveiw, with a newspaper, your a professional, wither you have your skis on or not. And if you like to drink and race, why promote it? That's the stupidest thing i have ever heard. If i smoke and ski, and im going to go telling people i like to get blazed off my rocker and rip around. (and just to note drinking and skiing and smoking and skiing are not in the same boat) Espically if im a icon and telling people on a International level. You should be able to handle yourself a little better then that. But i guess some people can't
He can do whatever he wants, has lost all and any respect from me as a skier, no matter how good he is.

He never said he condoned drunk driving. Saying "Therefore" implies a logical connection. There is none. If you'll read specifically what the article says, he said drinking and skiing is like drunk driving IN SO FAR as it's putting your own life at risk. Which is probably true... but then, dropping a 50 foot cliff is like drunk driving in that way. Nowhere did he say or imply that it's okay to drive drunk and you're really stretching hard to make a rather unconvincing point.
The fact is, I trust Bode skiing drunk not to run into other people more than 95% of the hill sober, just like I trust people I know riding switch not to hit people more than 95% of the hill regular. Sure, maybe it would be a bit safer to ski regular all the time. But that doesn't mean you're "putting peoples' lives at risk". Besides, you really think the terrain Bode would ski when he's not on a race course is going to be littered with weekend warriors and gomers on rentals? Think again...

ummm ya it's been a long day.
When i read "drinking and skiing is like drunk driving" and then states he has no problem with drunk skiing... i can only jump to conclusions which to me seem clear. Wither or not he is talking about putting your life at risk.
There is a difference dropping a 50 foot cliff, and dropping a 50 feet cliff drunk, when your talking about risk.

I agree with your second point. Buti guess saying "putting people lives at risk" really isn't what i meant. But when skiing drunk, and something happens it's YOUR fault.
If you caught an edge and slammed into someone seriuosly injuring them, sure you caught an edge it was a unfortante accident.
But if your drunk and catch an edge and slam into someone seriuosly injuring them, you can no longer blame human error. You made a choice before you hit the slopes, it is YOUR fault.
And that could get you into trouble, hence drunk drivers that cause accidents compared to non impaired drivers getting into an accident.
And im not really trying to critize him for drinking and skiing, i ski and have skied in a "unsober" state, but by no means drunk. I have better judgement then that.
So really i guess, im dissapointed by his judgement, and the way he portays himself as a professional skier in a interveiw.

Personally, I respect Bode for sure. I don't care whether or not the dude skis drunk when hes racing, blazes all the time, doesnt do this or that. Either way, t he dude is sick. He kills all the races, and he doesn't take anything toos eriously. He's not out to please anyone except himself and does what he wants to do-something that most definitely do not do. He's not wrapped up in the hype, he's wrapped up in what he wants. Skiing, at least to me, is not all that serious... whether or not you want to win, it should all be a good time. The dude has a good time... whyy is that bad to enjoy life?

ive heard that bode is actually cocky and sort of a dick, he wrote a book or something and people were saying that hes pretty arrogant

I dont care whether the man drinks or not, he rips bottom line... All you that condone smoking and skiing, I think the two are equally as bad, I neither condone nor condemn either but sober Im usually a better rider, not like Im good anyway

this is a true story- a couple yrs ago bode and a friend were driving home completely smashed. his friend drove into a tree and flipped the car. bode fled the scene cause if he got caught hed be suspended by the FIS. his friend was left pinned under the steering wheel and is now paralyzed. thats so low to bail on a friend like that.
