Bobby Brown Shootout 2014 in association w/ Red Bull

Last Tuesday, Red Bull gave me the opportunity to spend the morning shooting Bobby Brown under the guidance of photographer Eric Seo, alongside four other awesome photographers.

On the downside I accidentally shot at 720p, which is a huge bummer, but you live and you learn. I put together a short compilation of some of the shots I took, I hope you all dig it.

First of all, song, super played song thats been used 1000 times. might not bother you but to people who have heard this song before, its a huge turn off

Seemed pretty underexposed most of the time, not sure if that just was a poor execution of exposure or if you color corrected it that way, but most shots were super dark (and very grainy what camera did you shoot with?)

Most of your angles were pretty boring as well. The two angles I thought were nice were @1:30 and @1:55, ones from the knuckle were okay but most of your angles felt like you didnt even try to put any movement into your shot, static angles are okay sometimes but usually its best to move your camera with the skier. Also, the rainbow rail shots with no landing left alot desired as well.

Last, some of the slomotion was cool but it was super abrupt and honestly some of the slomo went on for too long/came in too early, etc I would ramp in and out of that slomotion

Wow... seems like Red Bull could have come up with someone who had at least some experience with filmmaking. How'd you get that job?

Sorry that came off meaner then I wanted it to do. I guess I'm surprised they had someone shooting with a go pro editing to that song over some big name production crew. Cool opportunity ya got there.

The 720p res looked great on my phone.

But seriously, you had some shots that looked solid. The problem is we know Bobby can look rad in super slow-mo floating through the air. Get some variety in the frame rate and moving angles that show takeoff to landing next time. Exposure is hard to nail on a white backdrop like snow, and I'd say 98% of all skiing footage is overexposed so I have a hard time criticizing for underexposure, but it's something you should test and keep in mind. And that song dude...

Big ups for Red Bull giving access to skiing like that to a young filmmaker. Keep those connections going man.

I'm sure that you were restricted by what angles you could get for shooting because all of the guys were doing pictures, but damn, I'd side with JAHrig about this.

Honestly you just seem to be someone who has a REALLY nice camera but has no idea how to use it properly and has no understanding of composition and framing.

- All of your shots were underexposed poorly, and I disagree with what was said above, because it's really easy to nail exposure if you're running a histogram.

- IMO there were only 2 really nice angles in there, and like Evan said, you need to learn to track

- One of the last shots was out of focus

- Colors were pretty horrendous, the clouds were such an ugly yellow/orange and the snow was almost green sometimes.

- Full slow-mo blows (In 90% of situations. I've made full slow-mo edits this year even, but it was a stylistic choice associated with a song that fit that vibe)

- Song is played as hell
