Bobby Brown on Team respect!

I wish Bobby could go, but I really respect his decision to drop out and let lesser known guys go. His decision contest will allow more unknown kids to shoot up. I really wish there was a another team that he could be on, though, I'm glad I didn't have to make the decision. I would also like to add, that I would in no way be disappointed if he were on Team NS.

Simon is far too big a name and therefore Lucrative not to have i'm afraid.... i've said it before and i'll say it again, JOSS is at the end of the day a business venture... the aim is to make it the highest profile freeski event of the year, thus you need the biggest names... BB became an overnight sensation at X and nobody really saw that coming.... prob not even JO - you know for a fact he'll be there next year though... same with Wallisch... he became the biggest name in freeskiing - he goes to JOSS...

it's all about the business... JO is a smart guy, great all round skiier and a super driven individual - i have as much respect for him as a businessman as a skiier

It's all about exposure and profile and $$.... that said - here is an opportunity to really launch a career for someone..... through the NS vote with this... it's an opportunity for the lessen known pro, with style and true talent. Don't waste it. Bobby doesn't need it now.... so respect to him for that. Remember Wallisch and superunkown.. now it's your time to influence someone's career that much.

wow thanks alot guys- he would have fucking killed it- such bullshit- LJ B Brown and Nipples ftw- but no- we had to fucking ruin it

I absolutely agree. Bobby has a big bag of inovative tricks, plus hes still not as known as the midget.

Taking dumont to JOSS isnt a good decision, we have already seen his dub fronts and mistys. No need to send him again.

Jon, no apology needed. I was one of the people who spoke up saying that I didn't think you should sway the vote one way or the other. But I was wrong as you are just as much of an NS member as I am, and are entitled to voice your opinion just as much as I. Also it is not your fault that your opinion holds a LOT more water then mine does too. I think that Bobby is a true ambassador of our sport and am glad to see him coming on the scene.
I also think that NS is a big part of our sport, and the point I wanted to make was I was excited to see who NS would vote in, and was eager for it to be a relatively unknown person. Because that's where NS shines is giving an opportunity for average Joes to make their mark on the Freeski world. I am sorry if my comments came across as hate on your or Bobby, I hope then didn't I certainly didn't mean them too. I think that NS will represent ourselves very well with whomever we vote in (yeah VT and LJ), and I do appreciate you being a part of our community and our debates. Thank you for all of your devotion and hard work towards progressing and contributing to the growth of our sport on so many fronts.
Good luck with JOSS, I hope the weather meets expectations, and all involved are strong, healthy and happy. Thank you for holding this event for our entertainment. Please don't take any of my previous comments as being unappreciative, and just as part of a healthy debate.
Yeah. NS Team lets get the win!

I'm going to be honest, I didn't expect anything less from Bobby. The kid went to my high school and is seriously one of the most humble, down to earth kids. The controversy around him on the site should not be occurring. all he cares about is skiing, and doing it right. You better believe he is a good front man for our sport.
That being said, I think it is BULLSHIT that many of you are calling out Jon (and simultaneously ruining Bobby's chances) for publicly supporting Bobby. Of course he should be allowed to be in the competition. After getting a taste of it last year, wouldn't you think he'd actually WANT TO COMPETE in the ENTIRE contest this year?!
Just know that some of you ruined that for him... and that sucks. who cares if Jon spoke up? this kid deserved the chance.
just my opinion. flame away.

so people are definitely going to be mad at me for this.. but I'm not going to change my opinion just because Bobby backed out (which I respect). I don't dislike Bobby in any way, shape or form, personally I just do not enjoy watching him ski and I would rather see skier's whose style and tricks I preferred compete in JOSS. That is all.

Let me get this straight.

Most of you purposely gave Bobby a lower score in the vote in order to spite

Jon?

These are peoples careers you are messing with. Why punish Bobby just

to prove a point?

I hope that someday you don't get a job that you were really hoping for

just because somebody in that company wants to spite their boss.

Your stupid, time to grow up...

I hope someone like tim mc doesn't get the spot i mean hes sick and all but hes gonna get there a realize he can't emulate wallisch on 100 foot jumps like he can in PC

i have no idea how much jon makes, if anything, for doing joss, but i can assure without ever having talked to the man in my life, he is not in it for the money, hes in it for what it does for our sport, so that shouldnt be an issue. at all.

if sean jordan goes over laurent favre and corey vanular, ive lost all respect in this site and the massive population of gargling east coasters swaying the shit out of this contest.

hes good and all and has great style, but i think there are better choices, this isn't superunknown

This, whoever gets voted in better be able to lay down some utterly sick tricks off the big kickers, like rightside 1440, smooth/fully grabbed double 12s etc. If we get some east coast rail kid throwing ugly 7s and 9s I am going to be pissed.

No idea why you retards had a problem with Bobby Brown being one of the three. Jon builds the best jumps in the world and the best park skiers/jumpers in the world should be hitting them. Period.

thats not proving a point either, because only the mods can see what you voted. i gave bobby a low score not out of spite, i just voted according to what i want to see, which is the point of the voting. but doing it out of spite is just wrong, and stupid.

You get it straight. errrrr wait!

Oh I get it. You can only count to 3.

Math Lesson:

Bobby Browns average score currently = 8.05 - that means on the average it might be that

4 people gave him 10 and ONE flamer gave him a zero.

Since when is 1 out of 5 most people?

Thanks for the garbage post.

are you kidding me? you dont think sean could throw down on big jumps? last thing i checked those jumps in WCS and the step over are hood were pretty damn big. and he does have doubles, i think he would be a completly legititmate choice to go to joss and it would give him some dope exposure only being 17

Firstly, I don't know exactly why Bobby pulled out but the hate is undeserved. If Bobby was voted low to spite Jon that's obviously ridiculous.

That said, just because he can throw the most tech tricks does not automatically make him the best pick for a video contest. Tech only makes up about 1/4 of the final score at JOSS, equally weighted with style and possibly (i can't remember) creativity. Bobby has everyone beat on tech (jumps) but I would argue there is a bunch of more creative and more stylish entries (not saying Bobby is bad just that others are better). For me the best video part has tricks that I'm not expecting, done with style on interesting features. I like to be surprised and while doubles and huge spins are sick, they also get boring quickly (this is not only aimed at Bobby). Thus far in his career I would say Bobby is more of a contest skier (currently the best in the world) than a video part skier, and JOSS is a comp to produce the best 5 minute video not a best trick contest.

I didn't give Bobby a lower score because of Jon or because I have something against him (pulling out only goes to show he's a great guy and deserves no hate). I gave him an 8 (i forgot) because I enjoy something different in a video edit to what his entry offered. I will openly say there was other edits I scored higher because I enjoy the skiing in them more. Is that not the point of the voting process? To score things how you value them and see who comes out top?

Besides this, Bobby should be at JOSS and he should be on the US Team as the best big air/comp skier from the US.

i agree with that.
bbrown stepping down to give other kids opportunities when hes only 18 years old, thats bullshit, i would take that opportunity in a heartbeat if i was him, who cares what people say.
simon should do the right thing and step down, hes been to every joi and joss, and has been doing the same shit since the beginning.

EXACTLY!

And how much $$ do you think Red Bull is throwing at this event? There is NO WAY Simon would not be going....

It's not Show-Friends .... it's Show-BUSINESS....

you are such a sell out! take your corporatism somewhere else, or watch skiing become taken over by the big dogs. this was a chance to keep an aspect still grounded at its roots.
there are decisions in skiing that are obviously made financially. but this one sure seemed to bite Jon and Bobby in the ass.

It's inevitable i'm afraid.... the reason Jon would want Bobby there more then anything is probably his profile now after X...

Of course, we'd all love to see him out there because of his riding....

Imagine you were putting on an event that you market (Market being the key word here) as the best, most innovative freeski comp in the world.... you're not gonna just invite your friends... you want the best of the best, the biggest names and the biggest sponsors (so of course JO wants Bobby out there, he is PERFECT for this "event" in his eyes. I say event because that's what this is - it's an exhibition....)

It's not selling out, it's just the way the world is - no such thing as a free lunch.

The flip side to that though now is, with this contest, is that WE get to give someone who maybe fairly unrecognised in the same context as the Dumonts, Halls, Schiller and now Wallischs and of course most lately Brown the opportunity to market themselves on a huge stage, we basically get to give someone the opportunity to propel their pro ski career into that next level, the top level just as BB did at X.... so they need to be at that level and capable of delivering and deserving, in all of your eyes of that opportunity.... it's a tough one... but an immense opportunity for the riders...

Sorry for being Cynical though....

First,

If you didn't vote Bobby lower, then my post wasn't directed at you.

Second,

You're logic is flawed because you are not taking into consideration that most of the people that voted in the contest know the rules of the contest. In order to not get caught cheating, they would never give anybody a score of "1" but more likely a score of "5". If 2 people were to vote, 1 with a score of 10 and 1 with a score of 5, the average is 7.5, slightly less than 8, which means that even up to 40% of the people voting could be skewing the results.

But obviously my post offended you for some reason...

ive noticed that you say this a lot.
so how do you really feel if the 'business school' explanations make you feel cynical?
the 'open-source' opportunity never did get an honest chance, but without Jons opinions (which regardless of what others say, massively influences the whole idea as the event organizer since his interest is in multiple places) i honestly think it would have been a much different outcome. one that probably would have looked much more like what Jon (an many NSers) wanted in the first place.

Why do you care so much if Jon influences the event. He is putting on the event. He is building the jumps. He is putting money into the event. So why can't he voice his opinion. You act like crime is being committed.

Because Jon got to pick 7 teams on his own and left a sweet opportunity for everyone else to choose another. Its become obvious (factual) that him voicing his opinion was detrimental to Bobby and Team NS.
No crime at all. But as a member of the community he enlisted to pick the last team, I got a feeling of distrust like I (and we all) know nothing about what we are doing. And this is what happens when a brand distrusts its audience. And we talk to each other about it because its the internet and we can do that.

Slightly off topic, but not really because Jon touched on something in his original post.

123ski - I am still irked with your post.

Lets mess with your career, I don't believe kids are intentionally messing with Bobby Browns career, they are simply saying that they would like to see someone else given a shot albeit in short form.

Your name is orange, there is nothing in your profile with who you represent.

Being still bothered with your lousy math and in conjunction with orange names influence when they post...

I went back to your profile scouring for some indication of who you are. I found a skijosh URL and decided to try that. Certainly SkiJosh.com isn't a real website. Oh wow! It's all about you, yet nothing on who or what you do besides ski.

I found this:

"I ended up winning a GoPro HD camera from newschoolers.com and from gopro. It is a sweet camera. "

That's pretty lame for an orange name. Taking candy from the kids, are we?

I did find, off in the margin, an "about you" link and found that you are a self titled "gearhead" product reviewer for backcountry.com?

I stopped there and.....

I come back to NS - you have only reviewed 6 products for NS? Okaaaaaaay lets search recent backcountry.com threads. Guess what? I didn't find any posts from you helping the people who created the threads or even saying thank you to those who praise bc.com.

Why is your name orange?

For a long long standing NS member - you should know better.

hardly fucking surprising seeing as ns has forced bobby to pull out because of all the hate (for not being stylie enogh), while also thusfar failing to vote into the top 3 by far the most stylish candidate (Lolo). If that isn't retarded i just don't know what is.

Arguing about style is just like arguing about art/design. No one is ever right, opinions just become stronger from both sides, and the most popular becomes the most popular because it is the most popular.
So Im not even going there...

Mad respect to Bobby,Though i am disappointed i thought Bobby B, Lj, and Lolo would have made the perfect teamtechnical, hue tricks from Bobby, the style and creativness from Lolo, and the jump and urban skills from Lj, they would have unstoppable.

i won't argue that, but i will argue that ns failing to vote lolo to JOSS, while already having forced bobby to pull out, is irrefutable proof that ns has failed as a voting community, and thus that jon had every right to mistrust it.

I still think people should vote for Bobby Brown. Regardless of the stupid "bs" about being jon's favorite etc, Bobby Brown kills it! His skiing speaks for itself, his jump skills are remarkable. In my book there's no reason why a kid who was relatively unknown just a couple years ago, and has progressed immensely with some of the biggest tricks in skiing shouldn't be voted in! I'm sure he would still love to go if people would vote for him based on his skiing and not other conditions. Maybe if we vote him in the top 3, he'll change his mind and go anyways. BB and LJ would be unstoppable.

false. him voicing his opinion wasnt detrimental to bobby and team ns. you and others being whiny morons is what was.

really? distrust? stop trying to make it seem like it was some sort of evil secret move by jon. he was stoked on bobby, he wanted him to go, so he said "hey ns, itd be rad if bobby went". then ns, who has nothing better to do than complain, about ANYTHING, decided that this would be another fine opportunity to hate on jon (seems to be a trend these days) and in turn also screw bobby over.

its not jons fault for making a suggestion, its people like you who caused the problem because you blew things out of proportion.
