Bobby Brown and his dubs

I think the real problem everyone has deep down is that he doesn't wear big ass clothes with his pants at his knees. Watch the edit that was posted in this thread and imagine he was wearing that stuff- everyone would probably be like 'OMG this is dope, everyone come watch!' Bobby's just into what he's into- jumps. If you don't like it, its whatever. Has anyone criticized PCasabon or Hornbeck for not throwing dubs all the time? No... to each their own. Everyone's pushing the envelope in different aspects, and I respect all of them.

Bobby has to be my favorite big air skier in the game.

yes, i said it..Big air skier. but thats not to say he doesnt destroy everything else in my mind.

In Whistler he sent the TTR Gap jump for all of us, i believe first.

First hit, knuckle

2nd hit, dub 10 mute to japan.

Cleanest hit i've ever seen, and he hadn't even cleared it all the way before.

HE is the nicest skier I have met also, makes you feel just as good as him..

not sitting on a "high horse" to say the least.

HEs a professional skier. Professional skiers do comps to make a living and make money. He knows how to win so he does. Seems pretty straight forward to me...

I guess what I don't like about Bobby is that he just trains to win competitions. I mean, he's just clearly a different character to me and I can accept that. In fact I guess I should respect him for choosing a cool sport to win. It's just he seems to ski with the mindset of an athlete, not of a skier, I can't relate to that.

I prefer the idea of skiing for sake of skiing not for the sake of winning.

This is what makes fresskiing such an awesome sport. Just because he specializes in jumps doesn't make him a bad skier...if anything it further diversifies the sport. Look at big mountain guys like Townsend. Can they throw tricks? Yup. Do they push this sport? Yup. But just because they aren't park rats doesn't make them any better or worse.
Let him hit jumps. He's obviously good at it and making a pretty damn good living at it. Perhaps he just likes going big. No harm in that.

wait, wait, wait...who doesnt like winning and being the best in the world in a competition?

if you could be the best, why wouldnt you? I cant imagine anything more rewarding, or more fun than being the best in the world at a sport.

Exactly i hate competition vibes i feel pressured to do stuff i dont want. He seems to have the big athlete mindset(not hating) just look at his sponsors Smith, Under Armor, and Salomon. It probably doesnt help that most shots i see of him are doing double flips. Get him out in the mountains and into the streets with more variety.

I fully agree, but I do belive that he should still get credit for them, he makes them look sooooo steezy when he does 'em. He should start workin on some different variations tho

he probably is, since hes spending his time skiing, while you all spend your time worrying if someone else is having enough fun.

Winning is probably one of the most rewarding and fun things in the world, so why wouldnt bobby want to do that?He goes out everyday and kills it, im sure you all know how good it feels to learn a new trick or just stomp a really sick one, so once again, why wouldnt bobby want to progress more and more?its not his fault he's incredibly consistent and wins comps, if he was wearing jiberish this conversation wouldnt even exist.
Also, as the sport gets more mainstream, you have to ask yourself who you want to be in the limelight representing the sport, Bobby Brown or Henrik?(no hate)

Also, Why do you all not hesitate to compare bobby brown with film segment skiers like hornbeck or b-dog? All of them have completely different styles and have different specialties. Bobby isn't ruining skiing. Its people like you all saying he his. Last time I checked, Progression is what skiing wanted a couple years back and now you're all whining that progession is going to kill the sport. Jesus.

ya hes progressing the sport whatever whatever... but he is naturally comparing himself to say b-dog and harlaut by using that song... horrible song choice but other than that ok edit if your into that type of skiing

Don't get me wrong Bobby Brown kills it, but I don't really like watching him ski. I do recognize what he is doing for the slope style scene though. He is becoming the poster boy of slope style and my roommate that doesn't ski heard about him before me.

its not skiers like ambhul, brown and rolland that i hate but its the fucking judges who suck at life. technicalitytechnicalitytechnicalitytechnicalitytechnicalitytechnicalitytechnicalitytechnicalitytechnicalitytechnicalitytechnicalitytechnicalitytechnicality. style? whats style?

i was gonna write about how bobby is the man... i mean hes really nice and sociable, an incredible skier and just loves the sport. nothing impressed me more than watching him be the first one on the hill, and going hard all day every day...

but no one seems to care about that so never mind

are you guys considering dating him? lets be critical about you...

idk how i feel about you guys. you're kinda unknown and post on the internet mouthing about kids who throw down..

every one who is hating on dubs shut the fuck up!

sure i love a steezy 7 just as much as the next guy but the point of a contest is to prove that you are better then everyone else and bobby does just that. if want competions to be all about style then go watch some ballet contests! anyway step back a second would you really want some kid who can throw a slow 180 beat some one that just threw down a double ? hell no! and you cant say you didnt enjoy watching big air at the x games just because everyone was throwing doubles

ah-jeez-not-this-shit-againpicture-copy-2.jpg

lol i said bio 9 and switch 1080 tail... those are hardly "slow 180s". and dawg I also said huck a big dub at the end... i dont hate doubles at all. if you watch any major film that came out last this year it will be full of huge double flips, and thats alright. What I dont like about bobby brown is that he turns skiing into a spin to win huck fest, and to me that is not what it is all about; I only think this because I enjoy watching style, and you cant get a double as stylish as you can a big spin with some cork and a boss grab. and dudes out there hating on me for posting this thread and raping my karma... this is only my oppinon, so chil and enjoy urrrr day.

this is why you we believe you have a severe mental deffeciency. Bobby does what he has to to try and win the damn comps, just like wallisch, just like the rest. Blame the sport, or the judges, but dont blame someone who is playing by the same rules as everyone else.

And youre showing your age by saying a switch 1080 is steezy. that used to be the go to hucked spin to win contest trick.

your opinion is based off an incorrect interpretation of the facts...therefore your opinion is invalid.

With the exception of big air none of his dubs are hucked, they are perfection.
Sorry I thought the point of competitions were about competing and doing the best you know how. Apparently bobby, elias, sammy, TOM WALLISCH, & all other people who win slope style by throwing multiple dubs in their run must be stupid........

Everyone saying that Bobby goes out to the hill with "an athlete's mindset" or a "jock's mindset" is fucking clueless. Bobby is a SKIER. He loves it as much, or probably more, than all of you little poser "soul skiers" bitching about him not doing urban. Really?...you guys care that Bobby doesn't hike handrails? Pathetic.
He's a competitor and obviously gets a buzz off of winning and/or learning bigger tricks...why do people take that personally? Is he really that unrelatable? Who doesn't like to progress....to push their limits in some sense? Who gets to draw the imaginary, arbitrary "ok, progression stops here" line? Whiny forum nerds?
He's humble, friendly, approachable, and he fucking loves to ski. He is on the hill an hour before it opens, and is the last kid to leave. He is not "training"...he's riding with buddies and loving life just like the rest of us. He just happens to be fucking incredible and to be in a position to make a living doing what we all love to do. He's not asking to be the "face of skiing", or some sort of ambassador to pop-culture...he's just hitting jumps because he likes to. Everyone gets so sensitive towards "how is skiing perceived?! are the top pros representing my PERSONAL take on the sport?!" Who cares? Bobby Brown spinning and flipping more than the next guy when he pops off of a lip doesn't in ANY way effect what we as individuals are allowed, expected, or should do with skis on our feet.
I understand that this is all a waste of breath or finger movement, but holy shit, I'm so tired of people singling out fellow skiers as ruining or killing skiing. It's bullshit.

Bio 900 and switch 1080 tail...

so wait, you're talking about 2003 or something?

Can you just resign?

Skiers have different styles, different preferences, different things they enjoy. You enjoy watching "style" and urban, so go watch that and shut the fuck up.

Competitions reward certain things. Guess what? He, and others like him, ski in comps very little compared to how much they actually ski. Did Bobby, as you say, turn skiing into a "spin to win huck fest?" No, it has ALWAYS been that way. You aren't bringing an original argument in to this. In fact, since you are trying to single an individual skier out makes you a retard. It is the natural inclination of any sport like this, be it snowboarding, aerials, figure skating, wakeboarding, etc. to add more, to push things. But it is obvious you haven't been skiing, or aware of what has been going down in it, very long otherwise you would realize you sound like a dumbass. Have you even seen the first switch tricks from back in the late '90s? The switch ten fests of the bulk of the last decade?

Somebody like bobby can do whatever the fuck they want. Considering how big he, and others have gotten, from their skiing is more of a testament to their love of the sport and their ability than anything.

You can continue to watch and bitch, and they will continue to ski.

Although I feel what I said wasn't disrespectful I base what it on this edit

Losing a comp is in my opinion not the worst thing ever by a long shot, he also talks about how he is training hard and how what he wants is to do better(win more.) I don't want to sound like I'm saying he's a dick or is a bad representation of our sport. He just isn't part of the movement within it that I respect the most. You can't deny his talent and dedication.

I hate to bring you down but Bobby's shots were from 1:10-1:18, just two of them in that edit. After that was schlopy, then back to martini. That edit just reminded me how sick martini is, damn its too bad he's been injured so much lately.

of course he hates losing comps... he doesnt go out there to get 2nd place. he goes out to ski and push his limits to next level. to say hes not part of the movement is bullshit, hes the hardest working skier out there and hes spreading skiing to a bunch of kids that respect hiim because of his worth ethic and personality

wow, is it safe to say that most people are just not onto his style? hes technical and has what it takes to win. also, he helps bring popularity to the sport. other than that i dont have any criticism

I hate how so many people sit on newschoolers and criticize pros. Bobby is good as fuck and wins competitions and gets payed. He does what needs to be done to win. Stop crying about what you dislike and worry about yourself.

wtf is "the movement?" I said he's not part of the one within skiing that I like the best i.e. those who concentrate on creative jibs and style.

I've lost a comp before, I wouldn't say it was the worst thing in the world. Far from in in fact, I actually kid of enjoyed the experience. I had a fun day skiing with my fiends regardless of not doing as well as some of them.

I even made a point of saying that his personality was not under attack from me, I was just stating that it seems to be different to mine and his ideals and goals are not as close to mine as someone whos life doesn't revolve around winning. There has to be people like bobby though so I accept him for it.

My point is, I don't hate him and no one should, they should just accept that what he is doing is different to what we want to do and that the sport can only benefit from that diversity.

Additionally, I wish the other end of the sport got the same mainstream and financial support from sponsors as he does. People like Will Wesson, Max Hill and Jeff Kiesel are all progressing skiing in unique ways as much as bobby brown is in the competition environment.

This is a discussion board we come here to discuss our opinions on skiing, skiers, skis, ski tricks and the such. If you're not into that, stay in the buy sell forum or leave.

this is pretty vague, but the title reminds me of this interview with quentin tarantino, and he's talking about major hollywood a cinema, and at one point he just says "those girls.. and their tits!"

if anyone knows what i'm talking about, let me know..
