who does it? and is it hard to pick up? Thinking about doing it this summer and do less mountain biking. It seems like a shit ton of fun

Do it son, everyone in my town does it and even the noobs can three and grind, it takes a while to get but just go session everyday and then it gets sick

its pretty easy once you get the hang of it, and with your mountain biking history you will pick it up quickly

its easy to a point....once you get 3s, and 180s, grinds and other little tricks and kinda hard to progress to the next level but with practice its all good

i bmx'd for a few years dont really do too much, but when i do i have some sick trails with decent dirt jumps it fun

you will do just fine starting out since you have a mountain biking background. once you learn how to bunnyhop good, the options are pretty much endless.

get a bmx and stop being a nigger you fucking nigger like holy shit you stupid nigger
im allowed to say this cause im actually black

I would do it if I were you. The 2 years that I bmxed for were great but then I got too big for the bikes and I didn't/don't have the money for a nice dirt jump bike

bmx is so raw. it'd be so dope to be an amazing bmxer, traveling the country side and sessioning small towns in the summertime.

get one with padding on the handle bars and the top tube, and always be sure to wear protective gear including a helmet, knee and elbow pads, and shin and wrist guards.

danscomp has tons of shit and always has coupons, usually for 15 or 20% off or free shipping. they're not super 'core' but have been around for like 25 years and have supported the market forever.
buy something full chromoly, a dk or eastern is a good place to start for a sub-$450 bike with chromo bars, fork and frame. upgrade the cranks and wheelset later, they're less important of a base to start with especially when forks/bars/frame last way longer than cranks, etc.

Buy a good frame, get the rear wheel hand built (way stronger), don't forget hub guards, don't get brakes. Fat tires are cool.

Expect to pay around $1000, $1500 if you want top of the line everything. Think of it as an investment, bmx stuff lasts way longer then mtb.

i hope your joking. always use brakes when you start out bmxing, even if you have good bike control with a big bike. i know thats what all the coo kids do, but it will just make you a bad biker.and do not start on a 1500 dollar bike. you may try bmxing and decide you dont like it, and just wasted 1500. get a good 500 max bike and get the basics down and if and when that needs a replacement, get a better, more expensive bike. i know of well respected pros whos bikes are only worth 900.

Its fun as fuck. I used to race BMX from when I was 5 to 10. It was really fun. Not heavily into BMX as I was but I still like to cruise around on my bike poppin off of stuff.

My advice: if you're just starting out, buy a complete for like $500 from someone like Fit or Sunday, and gradually upgrade your parts over time. Definitely run a back brake. Going brakeless is just a trend and all you'll do is eat up shoes trying (failing) to stop. When the time comes, the first thing you'll probably want/need to upgrade are your wheels (rims, hubs, and tires). Spokes don't really matter unless you're a weight weenie, so get whatever is cheapest. Start out by learning to hop really well before you start hucking yourself all over the place. Then learn ones, tire tap 3s, and eventually hop 3s. If you have a small ledge or something around, learn feebles, they're by far the easiest grind to learn. From there you can learn stuff like bars, tailwhips, opposite spins, etc. It's really endless. Just mix it up and have fun. BMX is awesome.

Brakeless isn't really just a trend. I mean it is a trend, but it's been rocking for 10+ years.

I miss my ride subscription, waiting for each month, flipping through the dans comp catalouge and highlighting all the stuff I was going to waste my money on, spending 10 hours a day building/riding our trails, trying shit that fucking scared me and getting that adrenaline raging.

I miss the old days. Once in a while I get my bike out in the garage on the mini though.

I have been riding BMX for 6 years. If you want a bike like mine, expect to drop $1500.

Here is a list of all the good companies you should consider when buying a bmx bike. These companies make every thing from street, park, dirt, and some flat land specific parts so you can always find what you want.

1. Odyssey

2. Fit

3. Fly bmx

4. Shadow conspiracy

5. Sunday

7. Profile

8. S&M

Those are my preferred favorites that make top of the line quality parts that you can use and abuse and wont break, but obviously go with what you feel like I'm sure you will make the right decision. Hope it goes well!

And here is the Bio from props of Tom Dugan, a fellow kansan that makes me proud to be from Kansas.

Hope this makes you want to shred harder!
