I have recently become real interested in bmx but I need a new bike. I have a 2006 haro F3 and it i fun, but it is a heavy beast. Do you think I should upgrade my bike or just buy a new one? I am looking at this one right now and any tips or mods would be appreciated. http://obmx.com/fbmheathen.aspx

Any easy, inexpensive mods to make my bike lighter is appreciated. 10/10 karma for legit answers.

u should pm a friend of mine, Big_Spence!

he used to race BMX when he was younger and he was even competing nationally! so, he probably still knows a lot about BMX and he could help u out.

my budget is probably 450 max. I know 450 wont buy top-of-the-line materials, but I would at least want a 27 pound or lighter bike. I am pretty light and pretty tall. I am still growing so that might change.

Right now im 6" and 140 pounds. I am only 14 so im still probably going to gain some weight during the time I have this bike.

look for a full cromo frame and fork.
other than that, its sorta depending on what you ride and how you ride in terms of axle size and wheel sets. if you are heavier and like to do lots of park/ street and are planning on doing stalls/ grinds etc etc, you will wanna get maybe 14mm axles. if you are only using it for dirt jumps, you can probably get away with a 3/8" front axle. wheels, you can decide on single, double or triple wall depending too. think about what you want the bike for exactly and then go from there. thats something i learned when i was buying my bmx

Triple thick wheels are worth it, nothing sucks more than jumping some stairs and putting a flat spot in your wheel.

do you think the FBM would suit my size/weight needs? I am going to be doing a little bit of street, a little bit of park, and a little but of dirt jumps. Its prob gonna be 25% street, 35% park, 40% DJ

the fbm heathen is a good bike. you should have a look at the fit and verde completes. they are really good as well....

easy and cheap mod to save weight: don't run pegs (you won't need them on dirt anyway), or buy gsport plegs

and i run my bmx brakeless. saves weight, you don't have to struggle with the cable and adjusting brakepads and shit and riding brakeless feels so good.

pm me if you have more questions

go onto albes.com and look into hoffman completes they make a nice fairly light bik ad most fit your budget

I really wouldn't worry about it too much. I'm 6'3" and 230 and I've got a 3/8's up front and I've had no issues with it. The FBM should be alright for you. If you can get a 21" top tube because you are a taller guy.

The beauty of bmx is you can upgrade and swap parts easily and relatively cheaply (depending on what you're getting). Easy ways to shave weight include swapping tires (to kevlar bead), switching seats/posts, plastic pedals, losing the brakes (if you know what you're doing and that's you're thing).

Hopefully it works well for you and you have a blast with it!

hey man,

you might not remember me, but im from the BMX questions thread. Anyway, should I just ditch or sell my haro or try to upgrade it? Also how is brakeless on a bike? I want to do it but I have gyro right now and it would be a hassle to take off and I ride in traffic a bit. would it be easier to just get a longer cable and take off the gyro?

thanks,

.steezyskier.

that fbm is one of the best completes you'll find for your price range. maybe try to find and 08 verde spectrum, they're goin for 350. definitely ditch the haro though. i think it would probably be good for you to get a 21 inch frame too.

/thread..

i've easily spent over $3000 at danscomp.. too legit. too legit to quit... and with a $450 budget, you'll be golden.. I just got myselft a FIT TRL 2.. love it.. 450 can buy you this my friend

upgrade for sure. i know mirraco is a new company but they are pretty legit. most of their bikes come decked out with snafu parts. I highly recommend even the blend 1 which is a great bike for the price.
