BMX purchase advice

X2 good bike. I'd save up your money and buy a better one, IMO. The more money you spend on a complete, the less money you have to spend replacing shit parts

The problem with getting a complete for $250 is you aren't going to have a frame worth upgrading. Chances are its not going to be chromoly and if it is, it will be the front triangle. If you can, save some more money and get a complete with a frame you can upgrade over time.

Weight should not be your focus when dealing with such a low budget. You get what you pay for, so if you find a sub-25 lb bike for $250 chances are it will break when you ride off a curb.

Some things to look for are-

double wall rims (at least in the back)

sealed bottom bracket

sealed hubs (though i doubt you will find this in your price rance)

Weight should not be your focus EVER. Nothing is worse than weight weenies with no brakes who can't ride for shit, but won't put on brakes because they "weigh too much." Actually, riding brakeless is just retarded in general, but I suppose that's a rant for another day.

I saw a fairly nice Haro for 280ish the other day. Can't remember the name of it, it was bright green though haha. I ended up getting a stolen instead though.

Basically, anything below the $350 mark is going to fall apart on you. This is because many of the crucial bearings are unsealed, and the metals used are prone to bending, and in severe cases, snapping. Especially as a beginner, you will put severe wear on your rims learning to spin and whip, and I highly recommend finding something that has a rear double-walled rim, or you will be replacing rims constantly.

huge this. i ride around the neighborhood with friends, nothing pro level, but we have fun. for some reason, like 3 of them feel the need to go brakeless. they dont barspin. they dont tail whip. all they do is really basic stuff and riding. ooh but the tiny little bit of weight that brake shaves off is so worth it when you get hit by a car when you cant footbrake fast enough

on a more helpful note, i like my dk kvant a lot. its almost 2 years old and i have more miles and abuse on that bike than ive put on any other. ive had to put parts on though. the cheaper dk's are pretty nice, just not great. make sure to look for something with a full chromoly frame, it'll last longer. i remember when i was buying, the dk kvant was $400 and a haro 400.1 was like $600 (if i remember properly), but they had literally almost the same exact specs. just make sure when you buy, to look at all the parts and research each one. paying for the brand is never fun unless you can afford it

Buy used. Check out pinkbike, you can find some good deals. Also I would try to save up some more money, it will be worth it in the long run to spend more money on a better bike.

ive gone through several Haros, GT's (before they became shit when made by Schwinn) hoffman and specialized's ive had my fair share of $650 bikes but ive seen kids with cults stolens and kinks for under 400 that performed much better, thats why i dont feel like spending 600 on a sunday or fit

just google the word pinkbike. its like newschoolers for biking. once your on make an account then go to buy//selll and cllick dj/street/park bikes and theres alot of sweet dealls for around 300. its also nice cuz yyou can narrow th search by citty/state etc

Also, the older the bike, no matter the quality, your going to start running into problems with older technology. BMX bike have changed a shit ton lately
