BMCC vs. GH3 vs. Canon 5d Mkii

Guys I know this sounds extremely dumb and I'm sorry I had to reach out to you, but I need some feedback on a decision I'm trying to play out in my mind. I currently have a 5d mkii with a tamron 24-70 f/2.8 lens and a couple primes. Historically I've shot a lot of photos but lately I just shoot a lot of video (probably for the last 18 months or so.) Anyway I've had this nagging going on inside of me wanting to switch to a BMCC or even a gh3. Does it sound completely stupid to scrap a perfectly good system for something else? Is the change really worth my effort? This is meant to be an open discussion about how everyone feels about each individual camera and basically I just want to hear everyone's (specifically those who own one of these) pro/con lists of each. Thanks!

I have a gh3 I love it! But honestly if you have a 5d and want more out of video try using the magic lantern raw. Can really give great results. Also if you decide you want more the ef black magic cinema cam is a great route. Can really teach you to color grade well. So will the 5d raw. Hope you find the cam for you.

kinda depends on what your doing. those all shoot very similar but extremely different. where do you feel limited when shooting?

the gh3 shoots 1080p at 60fps and the hack on those can increase the bit rate i hear quite a bit.

the bmcc shoots RAW 2.5k but only up to 30fps. and as well as ProRes at 1080p and has 13 stops of dynamic range which is only .5 stops less than a Red Epic not in HDRx mode!

both of those cameras are micro 4/3 mounts tho so the sensor is a lot smaller than a 5d and there is a crazy crop factor on both especially compared to a 5d.

so basically you gotta look at what you will be shooting and the type of look you want. the bmcc is awesome and looks super good and the gh3 is small light and also makes a great image.

the 5d is also a good camera tho too and can make some great images. so what do you want from your camera?

more dynamic range - bmcc

higher frame rates at higher resolution - gh3

just wanna spend money on a new camera - stick with the 5d and save up for upcoming models that will have exactly what you want
