yeah, it's gross, but as a result of toe bang and probably boots that don't quite fit right, my big toes are blue now.

and plenty of you have dealt with this, what do you do about it?

Yeah that happened to me just before New Year's. It hurt so much that I had to hobble around for a few days but eventually it got better. I just kept skiing. Then my nail finally started to detach and I ripped it off yesterday morning. Looks pretty crazy.

So just bare the pain for a few days, then proceed to give'r.

ya i was at the young gun open and big white and now my left toe nail is purple and blue...but i also get the worst shin bang ever aswell

don't sweet it...they will fall off in your buddies hot tub and gross everyone out....no big deal to lose a toe nail, just don't fuck with it and let it fall off when it want to....your screwed now for the rest of your skiing carreer...I have lost my left toenal (big toe) every season since 1994....

be proud of it...it shows that you ski hard and don't puss out when it comes to skiing

your boots are too big. Same thing happened to me, boots were either a whole, or just 1/2 size too big, and when i'd take a hard landing my foot would slid forward and slam my toes into the front of the boot.

yeah, but i'm just wondering how to keep it from getting infected, or worse. it doesn't bother me, it's just that loose toenail that's a bit weird.

i guess i better not wear flip-flops for the time being!

mines been BLACK for about 2 months now, both were black now just one is like BLACK, and neither of my toe nails have fallen off yet and they aren't going to. i am stoked they aren't gonna fall off, they just HURT SOO BAD though

so this happened to me twice as a result of skiing bumps when my boots werent toight enuf...first off, try and cut ur big toe nail as much as possible if it doesnt hirt too much so u dont reinjure. then what will happenin is a new nail will start growing under the old one and eventually push it off. Seeing a dermatologists will speed up the process cuz he'll maybe be able to rip off the old nail so the new one can grow without problems. Its takes about 6 months for the new nail to fully grow in. cheers

dude i had to get totally new boots this year cuz ive been skiing the wrong boots for years. now im aboot to lose my right big toe nail, but at least i got new boots out of them

i dont like hte feeling of cutting my nials, u know the feeling when the skin can touch things it jsut feels weird i couldnt imagine how weird it would be for my whole nail to fall off.

or that your retarded, and have managed to ski for around 12 years, but have yet to realized you have been buying boots that dont fit right.

i had shit boots last year and that happened to me all season and i actually lost about half of my toenails b/c of it....this saeson i got new boots and custom footbeds and it has helped a whole shit load

wow, i know the feeling i got it last year on both toes and now again this year my right nail is off and my left is black n' blue from point shoes. it can be either to small of boots or to big or ur boots just aren't tight enough.

truth.

Same thing happended to me last year becuase I had boots that were too big. I kept skiing though. Poke a hole in you toenail to relieve the pressure.

What if you have a blue toenail, that feels bruised, but isnt falling off. Anything to help it? My friend has it and were going skiing tomorrow and I wanna stay all day and not have to stop and wait and shit...
