Blue mountain: The worst decision ever.

Ok i jst got back from the town hall meeting. the situation intrawest is left in with this whole thing is pretty bad. it leaves me screwed as i am 13. i dont want to explain it there was so much said.

Woah woah woah.

Is this something that is going to affect the whole mountain-sports situation at Blue?

that is SOOO GAY

I haven't been there before, but I wanted to go bad this season I just never could get a ride down

Was this tart wearing a helmet at least?

so any word if all this is because the kids parents are threatening something or is it because blue wants to make a voluntary change for the safety of its riders?

from what i understand it is a voluntary act to keep their riders safe while determining a new risk management policy.

unfortunately i was at the bicycle tade association of canada show in montreal this past weekend so i wasn't able to attend the meeting. but hey, anyone hitting up blue this weekend? i'll be there riding with one of the guys from kona. i'll be on my grey sasquatch and he should be on either a stab deelux or supreme

yep ill be there, i dont know if riding because ill have to rustle myself some armor... gay. Oh and they said if theres one more law suit, the bike park is over forever. Also, they said privaledges could never be based on ability rather than age, because the legal system dosent see your skill level, only your age. fuck.

Maybe not even that ... isn't there a disclaimer on the back of the ticket???

I don't understand this at all; clearly its the rider's responsibility for whatever happens in there, it was THIER CHOICE.

I'm a street/urban rider but I've always wanted to go to Blue with some of my friends ho ride DH (though...I've been delaying that for years LOL); this just sucks.

Mauii, take er easy on Gary, he did not ruin Blue's Park....i'm not going to say who did, kuz they know who i am on NS and read this shit all the time, but it was definitly not Gary....

As for personal responsibility, just make sure you never sue for anything that is your own fault, lead by example, protest pathetic lawsuits and embarrass the shit out of whiny bastards and parents who sue at every occasion.

Insurance companies shut down bike parks, and terrain parks, they have too much sway over our lives, somehow we need to fix that....

yes i can blame them!

out in BC, bike parks are becoming more and more common and they aren't having the problem that blue is having. the problem in Onterrible is that we are so much like the US now that the first thing on peoples' minds after an accident is ho can i blame?" this is horrible and it's ruining it for all of us that hit a tree and all we say is "fuck i was dumb"

You guys REALLY like to beat dead horses...

one more fact to throw in here...

Blue mountain operates on ITS OWN LAND...

Many of the BC resorts operate on CROWN LAND/PARK LAND...

Ontario IS NOT BC...its sad...the western culture is far more Liberal than hear...but if you don't think thats changing...you need to pull your head out of the sand...

Blame society..NOT insurance companys...if you had ANY idea how the insurance industry works...you would understand this...

ALSO....Blame society NOT the Risk manager....this is a bigger issue than a most of you seem to understand...resorts have a TREMENDOUS responsibility..and no matter how much you think you should be able to do whatever you want...be responsibile for your own actions...it just doesn't work that way anymore....I wish it did..my job would be MUCH easier...

Here's a suggestion...Why don't some of you go and buy some land and build your own area...Where you don't have to abide by anyones rules...responsibilities are your own, insurance is your issue, no "stupid people"...and be able to AFFORD to maintain that.

I'm not being an ass here..just trying to get a point through

I wish it were possible....Believe me, I would have done it by now...

It's just not that easy.....I don't like where ANY of this is going...but if you just want to sit back and bitch...you'll spend the rest of your life sitting and bitching...

My .02

No shit buddy. the first stuff is all common knowledge to all of the people i know. And i dont think most people can afford to buy land and buy dirt and buy a bobcat or whatever.

and who the fuck are you? and who knows your on NS? I know alot of people within blue through my freinds there. It was supposed to be shut down (investors order) but the two saved it... (their names are escaping me right now) haha that may sound stupid but i was at the meeting

thats my point....

other than the common knowledge bit...if that were true...this thread would have been very short.

If we didn't make the decisions we do we couldn't afford to do any of this either.

Plain and simple....

duff_man, watch yourself there son. don't be relying on 'friends' you know. learn about the person who you ask 'who the fuck are you' too, i guarantee i know what i am speaking of and i guarantee i have contributed to NS a little bit more than most over the years...

the fact is insurance shut it down and actually had the nerve to ask the park staff "who they were to say the jumps were safe to reopen". this kind of shit is not good for skiing as insurance companies are trying to control what we can build. it is time for insurance companies to fuck the fuck off and for people in north america to take responsibility for their own actions. it is a sad when someone is hurt but they were not forced to take any risks, they CHOSE to.

i think you missed my point.

i understand insurance companies allow our sport to continue, that is the problem. they limit what we can do and what we can build because people wont take responsibility for their own actions. what i am saying is they have too much power over our sports and our lives, restricting our actions because of liability. well if there was once again personal responsibility (it would make things more civil in NA) we would be able to have huge parks with huge jumps and it would be up to the rider (or the riders PARENTS) to decide what they can or can't do.

insurance companies sue other insurance companies to re-coup losses. it is not blue mountain who pays out, it is our intrawest insurance policy who then has to recoup their losses somewhere else.
