Blue Angles are coming to town this Saturday, a couple of the jets are just cruising around above right now. Anybody been to the show before?

The angels are rad. Saw them @ fleet week in SF for a few years and last year in Seattle for Sea Fair. Don't miss it.

 
ive seen them a few times, they are amaizing. havent been in a while though, hope i get to go this year.

They make lots of noise. The Blue Angels usually come to SF around Columbus Day. Then they make tons of noise, while I'm in school. And during the breif 2 seconds where you can't hear anything, I yell at my teacher, but they can't hear me because of the jets.

Yea the angels are nasty!! The coolest thing I have seen in an airshow was about 8 or so years ago cant exactly rem the year but we were watching an airshow over Downtown Chicago and a fighter pilot buzz right down Michigan av. exploding 1000s of window panes from the shockwave dude was fined out the ass and banned form flying lasst i heard. Some one from the area could tell u more but it was intense!!

^you are fucking idiot. anyway i think the thunderbirds are better I saw them in cheyanne today and am going to see the angels in grand junction august 13th and 14th. the thunderbirds have faster and more powerful planes . the f-16 has a pratt and whitney f100 that produces 29,000 pounds of thrust while the fa-18's twin ge 402's each produce 17,000 pounds of thrust. the thuderbirds are more fun to watch beause they play rock songs while they are performing the blue angels are unbelievible as well the solo's for the angels are more fun to watch

yeah very true about the thunder birds putting out more thrust, but that only matters to a certain degree, the rest is piolot skill. i would like to see some f/a-22 raptors out there doing shit, that would be pretty intense considering they have pratt & witney f-119 with 35,000 lbs. of thrust, and the dual tail would just increase the amount of manuevers it can do. to bad we cant get our hands on them.

When i was in like kindergarden/first grade, somewhere in that age range, they always flew over our school in Tucson when they were training, cuz they have some HUGE airshows in AZ. But they'd break sound barrier after sound barrier during class and the teachers would get pissed, and we'd all be stoked, haha.

They don't even use full power anyways,

either F-16 or F-18 can go almost 2000 mph if they want to. Blue angels are way noisier & heavier & Bigger planes. So go Thunder your bird.

the tbirds dont come close to the blue angels when it comes to skill. the blue angels are all carrier qualified, the tbirds are not. the hornet is a far superior aircraft than the cost effective viper/falcon. the blues train much more and its way more competitive to become a blue than it is a tbird. considering that the tbirds are one of most boring air demo teams out there, the AF shouldn't waste money on new jets. i think the tbirds should go back to using trainers, maybe the T-6, i'm sure it's capable of flying the yawn of a routine that they fly now.

they do some full power but when they do it it is only for a coupl of seconds and they have maximum drag (flaps,spoilers) or if they are going vertical they do full power

do they blue angels land on arriers during the shows? no so what the fuck does that matter. and the only thing that makes the hornet more uperior then the falcon is that it can carry more ordinance. that doesnt fucking matter either. and to say that the thunderbirds are boring, ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING? say that when solo no2 maj. Farrar i think has to over take another solo from 2 miles away going 550 mph. the t6 texan has a 500 hp engine and there is no fucking way a fucking trainer could do the shit the tbirds do, like climbing 3 miles in 20 seconds or 4 point rolls while going over 500mph even thought tht is the t birds most basic manevuer. think before you talk asshole

i dont see the angels ejecting like the tchickens during airshows. it doesnt take skill to eject and it takes a lack of skill to get yourself to the point of ejection.

 


i thought that the Blue Angel stlye was a lot more aggressive, raw, and in your face. they fly closer, lower and a hell of a lot faster! the teams do a lot of simialiar maneuvers but the Blues did head on passing maneuvers a lot closer! a good portion of the T-Bird performance seemed repetitive, a lot of the same stuff over and over. besides going vertical in AB, they didn't really seem to stress the abilities of the aircraft wheras the Blues did everything from full AB vertical, to very slow flight followed by acceleration, to full dirty formation rolls. when a solo does the standard high-G, tight turn, allowing a plane to sneak up on the crowd in afterburner, (Blue Angels was a solo, T-Bird was a pair) The T-birds were up at about 500 to 700, and the blue couldn't have been more than 200, it was really low. F-16's weren't half as loud as that single Hornet that flew overhead, the shrieking noise it made was undescribable. The T-Birds did the "bomb split" when the formation goes vertical, splits into different ditections and them comes down at center field criss-crossing, T-Birds did it with five ships. Blue Angles: all six. T-Birds use music, Blues don't need it. T-Birds had a lot of lag time in-between passes, Blue's had virtually none. I also wanted to see the in-line loop, where all planes line up even and loop. I've seen pictures of the T-Birds doing it and expected it as the conditions were so good but they didn't. The Blues did it at Dover and it looked perfect. I thought the Blues seemed to be more into the razor sharp, stunt flying aspect of performance wheras the T-birds focus more on looking graceful and smooth. T-birds land in a line with a short spread, Blues land in a six ship diamond. Another thing, the T-Bird narrator told you exactly what was going to happen on every single pass, it was still cool to watch, but on about half the Blue Angel passes the narrator didn't say a word leaving you to wonder what was about to happen, and when they passed, you were like: Holy sh*t!!

first of all the tbirds definatly stress thier planes, yesterday they did several max performance turns, they also did the stall to afterburner to climb 20,000 feet "boring" "repetitive" thing. if you have been to more of the t birds shows you would now thier "jaws" trick they have the diamond formation do a nice graceful smooth fly by doing a roll and the a solo does a high speed pass out of nowhere the angels do it to sometimes but the plane was about 200 feet of the ground with the afterburners on. fat albert does kick ass though the jato is always entertaing and loud as fuck

fa18c- max speed is 1,100 mph

f16c max speed is 1400mph

fa18-rate of climb 45,000 feet per minute

f16c- 50,000 feet per minute

do you know how many blocks there are for each 18c and 16c? the hornet blocks are more powerful than 16 blocks that the tbirds currently use.

so basically your saying the tbirds have more powerful planes, which would make maneuvers easier, which makes the blues more skilled. you can't win.

 
the navy has the f14 and the f18 and a p-3 orion

cause that way they aquire the ability to actually fly instead of just letting the thrust do the work. you cant jump in a jet if you dont understand the basic characteristics of flight. thats why they you fly slower trainers first.

 
plain and simple

the airforce tells you what you can do with the airplane (ie dash 1), while the navy tells you what you cant do with the airplane (ie natops) and the rest is up to your own discretion as a naval aviator.

 
can you elaborate a little more? im going to the afa or annapolis and i honestly think that the air force and naval aviation are very similar i just have more respect for f16's

well first of, other than the fact that they are free and you get a nice ring, all the academies suck...especially if your a straight guy. i personally think OCS/OTS is the way to go. ROTC is the easy way out. OCS is 3 months instead of a 4 year academy stint, but its also insanely more intense. OCS/OTS and the academies all build comraderie. with the academy you have to committ your life before you know if you have a pilot slot, same with rotc, but if you go OCS/OTS you will know that you have a pilot slot with your name on it. so now that we got that out of the way, the navy is the way to go. when compared to the navy, the airforce comraderie is almost nonexistent. the navy lands on a moving strip that is smaller than a football field and the airforce lands on 10,000 foot runways. would you rather be called an aviator or a pilot?

i havent seen the blue angels or thunderbirds in so long. they do some crazy stuff in the air and its relle intense. i saw them like 5 years ago and i bet now they do some cooler stuff. its crazy though how the fly in all the cool patterns when they are going that fast.

 
dude you got everything you said of airliners.net! anyway im begining to realize the angels are better. i was still thinking about the tbird show yesterday. i have seen like 2 fucking shows in the last 3 years so anytime i see jets i get excited. i keep watching video that i took of the t birds and the really only did several demanding things the rest was waaaaay to held back i mean the fastest they went according to the announcer was about 550 thats pretty pathetic. and that old indian guy recording is so friggen lame. i was watching video of the angels and one of the solos was fly maybe100 feet or less of the ground going very slow and the he hit the afterburners and gained a couple thousand feet in under 10 seconds. the tbirds said that the air force is 790,000 strong and how great they are but the show only got me pumped up for a couple hours , i will probaly forget about after the angels. everyone thinks that the f22 costs to much for the t birds, maybe if the transition to that plane they will be worth driving a couple hundred miles to see
