oh yeah, ALOT of training is gonna help alot. also standing on one of those balancepads is good, after you get proper balance, start doing exercises on it, like knee bending and such. really helped me alot.

I tore my acl when i was drunk one night, then befor my surgery date i riped the miniscus in my knee. I got that all cleared up and i guess didn't do as much rehab as i should have and now mid season i tore my acl again. all i can tell you is alot of training, ride a bike alot, work out. dont just get out acl (or what ever you hurt)back get your hole leg in general stronger.

Did mine a couple seasons ago blowing up on a straightline.

Find a good surgeon (not too hard here in SLC, they do a ton of knees around here, but it could be trickier other places). Get your range of motion back before surgery.

My surgeon had my leg in a machine afterwards that kept it moving - that helps a lot. I was off crutches in 10 days. Backpacking 4 months later, skiing 5 months later. Stationary bike is good for it, be sure to see a physical therapist regularly, and do what they tell you to do.

as far as the graft go, mine was hamstring and I'm happy with it, patella is longer recovery time as well as older style, but some surgeons still prefer it. Oh, and don't try to do anythings stupid beforehand, like ski you're asking for meniscus damage. Also no harm in a waiting a month or two before surgery, giving your knee time to heal after the injury helps the surgery recovery go faster.

Hope all that helps, good luck

Oh, and braces are optional, I don't have one. As my surgeon said in typical arrogant doctor style - 'MRIs and braces are for insecure surgeons.'

yeah...my knee is all fucked up but idk what to do anout it i mean I can still walk on it but everyonce and a while I land on it weird and my knee just gives and i fall flat on my face...which I did last week in front of my whole religion class walking back to my seat after a prayer...fuckin gay shit....anyways should i go see a doctor or just like ice it and stay off of it?

thanks for the info a big help. i dont have a pick of the jump, but if you go to the ninthward site and look at my profile, the vid of my switch seven yea thats the jump. is it poss to skip surgery and just rehab and get my knee strong again and just ski without an acl???

talk to fraser he knows

don't try to skip surgury... i tried last year and it only made things alot worse. i only ended up getting surgury and wishing i had got it sooner

UTskier, who was your surgeon. I work in the OR at LDS Hospital so I might have assisted in your surgery.

Worrying is like a rocking chair. It gives you something to do, but in the end, it doesnt get you anywhere. Write that down.

yo eric help me out i heard of a guy out in temecula that does most of the moto guys knees you should ask around for me and see if he is good. its at the corona-temecula orthopaedic associates Dr. Bradley L. Baum

Concept - your knee is probably blown, you want to see a doctor before anymore time passes. When it gives out on you, you may be damaging your meniscus, which is unrepairable!

When older people blow out their knees, they don't do surgery sometimes, because you can still get around fine w/ no ACL. But for young people like us, who want to play sports and whatnot, surgery is the only option, you'll wear down the meniscus in your knee joint otherwise, and then you'll really be screwed.

see a doctor to get an MRI and get into physiotherapy as soon as you can. the physio will help get swelling down and make the surgury go better. afterwards, just more physio until you can start working out, ride a bike tons until you can start doing weights and squatting and stuff, use balance boards and do lots of unilateral (on legged) stuff to get your propreoception back. get your leg stronger than it ever was before and you'll be back skiing fine.

Life sucks, get a fucking helmet

-Denis Leary

u dont need to get an MRI. and your meniscus isn't unrepairable if you tear it... your recovery all depends on how well you rehab it.

blew mine out last spring. Over shot a jump--which by the way is the 2nd most common way to blow your acl skiing. I had messed it up previously but hadnt had surgery but couldnt really ski hard. as much as surgery's a bitch--get it done. If you dont you'll never have the stability to ski hard. I am now almost back to 100%. Lots of pt. Biking is great for that

skiing is dope

I blew mine out, but remember man, the stronger it is before surgery, the stronger it will be after surgery. Do a lot of PT before your surgery. I played my senior year of basketball with a torn ACL, no lie. So yes, you can walk on it before your surgery.

Dont delay it bro, get to the gym and do PT ASAP.

They can clean up meniscus damage, and stitch it back together I think? Maybe I should say it's not replacable. Once it's shredded, it's gone, and then you get to experience all the fun of arthritis way sooner than you should have to.

You want to get your knee and leg feeling good and strong before you go under then knife. If the swelling's down, go for it on the bike. No resistance and slow to start with. you're just getting it ready surgery, not training for the tour de france. You should see a physical therapist now. He can tell you where you're at and give you advice. Your orthopaedic surgeon should be able to refer you to one.
