anyone know how to stop caining your thumb in the park? seriously every major stack i have its always my right thumb that cops it... im in aus so its been 2 months since ive been anywhere a park but its still seriously suss. What gives? Any ideas on how to protect it when im out riding? and yes im a total unco and eat it plenty when im on my skis :D

cheers,

zoe

i thought it was that, but it isnt.

i had same problem. i cant remember any day from last season that i didnt break my thumb.

ya skiers thumb sucks dick. i hit the wallride at momentum and fell straight onto my thumbs on the way down and partially tore the ligaments in both my thumbs. i almost needed surgery. and they put me in two casts so i couldnt do anything. i got them off like 3 days later cause i hated them.

When you plant your poles (when skiing normally and expecially when poling) you put lots of pressure on your thumbs that they aren't used to. As the day goes on, they become weaker and therefore more vulnerable to injunry from a spill. I bottomed out in during my trip to the VTO last season and my left thumb is still effed.

i think if anyone came up with a reliable way to prevent it, they'd make millions. It happesn to everyone, and yes, it sucks! I didn't get it too bad last season, but the season before was terrible.

yur thumbs will be fucked til may if you ski a lot, theres no way around it

its like the saying, "if yur not falling, yur not trying"

there are these things you can buy at alot of ski stores that you wear under your glove and they are made of part plastic, part cloth, and it prevents your thumb from bending. never tried em, but i put them on in the store and they felt really nice.

i broke both my thumbs last year from that shit.......now i tape them up....works like super awsomenessf

yeah i did that and i had casts and stuff..it healed but sometimes i still feel a lot of pain in it...i have taped it up and it does feel good

i enjoy skiers thumb and the gact that both my thumbs are prolly going to hurt for ever..

just try to ditch your poles if your gonna pack it hard

hahahh no. if you see in the bonus he got his thumb pinched between 2 trailers. but yeah i got the thumbs messed up pretty bad at snowbird last year

lol no. his trailer like detached from his car, slid back and pinched his thumb up against his car and cut a chunk of it off. they go back later and find it.

LEKI makes poles that have a stretchy piece that attaches from the pole to the wrist-strap. When you fall, your hand pulls away from the pole handle so you don't land on it and break your thumbs, but at the same time it is still tied to your wrist so you don't lose it.

Also, I go without using wrist straps at all, and if I fall I just drop the poles. It takes a little getting used to.

yah dont use my pole straps anymore guess ill just have to get used to taping them up and the whole limited mobility thing and not drinking so much to prevent all the drunken accidents from occuring that keeps me out of action in the first place... i fell off a seesaw last week honestly who does that??? might check out those guard things too thanks for the help

Last season I permenantly messed up both my thumbs. I can't bowl more than one game! I went to the ski clinic and got a plastic thumb guard. It has a velcro strap around the wrist and plastic that goes up around your thumb. Prevents owies. I ski with it now, I just need another one for my other thumb.

No, they mean "skier's thumb" which is when you fall and the pole handle is in between your hand and the ground. Your palm goes all the way to the ground, but the thumb remains raised and on top of the pole handle. This pushes the proximal carpal bone of your thumb backwards resulting in breaks or ligment pulling.

Quote Reply is it from your pole strap bending your thumb back when you eat shit?

----------------------------------------

no its not that i hold on to my poles the whole time... i think u just stub it on ground or somehting like that

yea man i busted my thumb a few times last season...i think its cause when i fall i go into the fetal position (or something like it) so i dont flail all over. but i crushed my thumb in between my ribs and my knees a few times. and another time i just smacked it on a rail

so this one time i hit a wall ride and came back down switch and somehow i was so steezed out my hand was below my skis and i stomped on my own thumb. silly me

yeh this one time- at band camp- i was stoked about hitting a rail switch when i came off all gorilla gangster with my hands down by my skis and didnt quite land so well- the thumb underneath me was ok, it was my right thumb that came crashing down and managed to smash the metal edge of my ski that wasnt. such good luck ey.

undo the wrist strap, cuz i used to use um for park and i broke my thumb and needed a skrew put in to set it

i did this to my thumb last year tore the ligament and everything had to have surgery and all that good stuff cast for about a month and a half and this football season i taped it and it felt really secured so im prob gonna tape this winter both of them to avoid the same thing with my left thumb..
