Blood Donating ehhhhhh

So tomorrow our senior class is sponsoring a blood drive at my school. I've signed up to do it to get out of class, but I've also wanted to try it because I do feel that donating blood is important. Has anyone here donated blood? Is it going to hurt? Because dammit I despise needles....DESPISE.

DESPISE

its not bad. you lay there and watch yourself drain inot a baggie. kinda cool-you should give 2 units. then you get the madd comfy recliners

i've never done it, but will the next time i can since i'll be old enough.

after my dad had been shot he lost something like 3 quarts of blood, and doctors were able to use donated blood to help to keep him alive until my whole family was at the hospital with him. although he didn't survive i still really appreciate the fact that normal ordinary people helped to let me and my family be with my dad before he passed away.

youll be fine,

my sis is really weird fuck, if im eating at the table with her and my parents, all i need to say is needles, or blood and she wont eat shit, and will get pissed at me lmao

i donated blood last year and i was reaaal nervous. you go into the room, sit down with a red cross person and they ask you a bunch of questions from a list, some of which are pretty god damn funny (have you ever come in sexual contact with an animal, have you ever come in sexual contact with a man from africa, etc.) however if you laugh they don't find it very funny. then they prick your finger to see if your blood is good enough to be donated. once thats done, you go lie down on a bed and they slide a needle into your arm, and you don't even really feel it. as long as you don't move that arm around when the needle is in there, it's virtually painless and kind of relaxing.

i was about to at my senior blood drive..... but then i saw like 5 of my friends pass out. so i backed out so fast.

plus they said they take a pint of blood. thats like 2 little milk cartons!!!!!!

if you do, i think you should eat or drink before you donate. at my senior blood drive, i was lying on that table for a good 15 minutes while i watched my friends lie down and get up quickly. i don't eat breakfast or drink before and i think thats why. also, if you get up quickly from the table (like physically jump up as opposed to my other use of quickly earlier) you're more apt to pass out, so that might be fun.

i used to have to get a lot of blood tests. it's pretty basic and as long as you relax it's not that bad. the part i hate the most is when they tie the elastic around your arm. and yeah make sure you eat, and don't get up right away. bring a juice box or something if you can.

donating blood is sweet. not only are you saving lives, but you get to miss a good part of the school day. I did it last year and they were missing a person so they were reallly backed up. I ended up chilling out there for half the day, then the whole process of donating blood only took about 20 minutes. its not that bad. it feels weird but it's not painful or anything.

i help runt he blood drives at my school, i cannot give bloood....silly rule about having to be at least 110 lbs. but i think anyone who can should! i mean if you dontate once u can save up to three lives, and 2/3 of all blood donated is by high school and college students! go for it!

I´m spending a year in Peru right now as an exchange student, and last week some of us volunteered to help out at a blood drive. We weren´t supposed to give blood, but some of them did.

It was fine, until one of them about five minutes into it had a seizure, pissed himself, and then was brought up to the hospital.

Another girl had AB- blood, which is the rarest, and they pretty much drained her. She fell asleep in the taxi ride, and it took her about an hour to fully recover.

Both of these two shouldn´t have given blood anyways, because they were too young to legally do so here.

I think I´ll probably donate when I get back to the U.S.

Have a nice day everyone. :)

A couple kid's at my school have passed out because of it, and you get a BIG ass bruise where the needle went in.

yea im in student council so we help run the donation thing at our school... its pretty sweet cuz my job description is a greeter so i sit at a desk in the main hall with a couple other ppl and just listen to music and play poker. then when someone walks in we thank them for coming and tell them how to get to the library. and the best part is u get free snacks that the red cross ppl brought like famous amos cookies and little juice bottles. plus no school all day. sweet if u ask me

yeah it wasn't nearly as bad as i had it worked up to be. although, the people who said that the finger prick hurts more than the actual thing are full of crap, the real needle hurt way more, but still not so bad. just a little sting and burn for a couple seconds, and you don't even notice it. i think i may donate blood regularly because i feel really good that i did that. i'm so damn tired now though. but hey, i got a ton of free food, missed a bunch of classes, and saved some lives. good day.

yeah apparently you're supposed to feel really good after, like physically i mean.

i can't give blood though, my dad contracted hepatitis C by a blood transfusion before i was born and that apparently disqualifies me. booerns.
