Our friend wants to bring her skiing into the park next year, heres some questions she has for NS:

"Next year I want to kinda learn how to ski park. But I need someone to teach me. Like in the baby park...

1. Is it easier to start with or without poles in the park? Should I park them at the top?

2. Is ollieing on when you just jump on it? (Ya know when theres like no jumpy thing up to it)

3. Do they ruin your skis, boxes and rails? My dad swears they do, my dad doesn't let me use them in the park...

4. What's the easiest trick to do? The absolute easiest trick to do?

5. Whats a good learning sequence?

6. Are hot pink ski pants ridiculous on girls?

Comments along the way:

People are gonna think I'm retarded..

I don't know any of the terminologly, like 2D on?

And a 720...thats three turns.

I will wear my helmet in the park, but it's ok cause i threw the cord away.

People are gonna hate me for this but I can ski bumps and flat stuff. I can go off cliffs too, but baby cliffs.

These people are gonna think I'm an awful skier, I'm not an awful skier huh. I'm actually a good skier. I can ski pretty. And I can ski fast.

what do you mean threw away the cord? there is no problem with wearing a helmet in the park, people will still respect you if you do.

I would say no poles is easier if you can get used to it. for me, i balance better on rails and it seems easier to fall because you arent afraid of falling on your pole.

easiest tricks for me to learn at first were just simple grabs on straight air, and 180's.

lol^

anyways, im sure you can answer these questions for her dude, but yes you will damage your skis on rails, as far as poles its up to what you feel comfortable with, and everything else - just have fun.

haha....i dunno i guess just go off small jumps...

and i dont think boxes ruin your skis at all, but rail kinda do...

but you arent gonna be doing rails for a while so dont worry bout it,

just do some easy boxes and small jumps and get a feel for it

1. if you start off without no poles its going to be harder to go back to poles, so try to invision if you see yourself with poles or without poles in the future and start from there, but i would say for railes and boxes IMHO poles are easier and for jumps no poles are easier, so yes you could just park them on the top of the hill.

2. ollie...or pop eithier one, ollie isn't used to oftern in terms of terminology

3. yes they do, especially rails, that why h-core skiers have multiple pairs, because they will have a pair thats maybe not in the greatest shape saved for rails and urbans.

4. easiest trick IMHO would be spread eagle, but try to accomplish the 180 within your first couple days, and set yourself the goal of learning something new every day you come to the hill, that way you will progress but not kill yourself trying to accomplish to much

5. for jumps start small jumps, and master say 180's on them even 3's, and different grabs and once you've mastered those on small, move up to medium jumps [m]. As for rails and boxes, it differnt pertaining to the individual because some people find starting on boxes is easier. If you have never even touched eithire i would say for the first day just hike a single box and slide stright accross it, thus giving you a feel for the slidding and friction of the motion. as for when you what to starts turnign 90 degress and sliding IMHO i found it easier to learn on rails first and then moving on to do that with boxes, but everyone is different, so just experiement for the first bit.

6. eh why not?

yeah, some people say ollie when talking about skiing, but its kind of different from ollieing on a snowboard. you cant really weight the back and get the flex to do the work like you can on a snowboard, just because of the whole one foot attached thing, you dont get as much leverage.

1. ditch dem poles foo

2. get some quad xl, colours, design dont matter

3. go up to largest feature in park rediculously fast

4. "catch edge" on lip

5. fall spectacularily

6. throw up some gang signs.

that should be enough to get a few segments, couple spanzerships

wow man, 10 for karma. i was just kidding. now that i think about it, thats only a half bikini picture.

i think those questions have already been answered anyway. props for doing that, and shes pretty hot

sick lifevest she looks stoked. maybe one without the vest and a bikini top instead? your choice. shes good looking, thats for sure. id recommend having someone else teach her. if you do it, that could ruin your relationship

1. If she skis with poles already, it will be more comfortable to keep them.

2. Pop, ollie, whatever

3. Yes, but not that bad if you are learning. They do when you start doing disasters, urbans, etc.

4. Straight airs, then move to 180's, and possibly sliding a flat box forwards.

5. Same as 4, then everything else comes different for each person.

6. Nah, style doesn't matter when you are learning.

Tell her you will trade her carnal treasures for park lessons.

I would say start out with poles because they help out your balance and your arms won't be flailing around like an epileptic.

"Next year I want to kinda learn how to ski park. But I need someone to teach me. Like in the baby park...

1. Is it easier to start with or without poles in the park? Should I park them at the top?
-If anything, park them at the bottom, near the lift. Try the park with poles or without. I would guess if you've been skiing for awhile with poles, not having them could be awkward.

2. Is ollieing on when you just jump on it? (Ya know when theres like no jumpy thing up to it)
Yep. Ollie, pop, hop, jump, whatever. Bend your knees and jump in the air!

3. Do they ruin your skis, boxes and rails? My dad swears they do, my dad doesn't let me use them in the park...
The answer is yes but does driving your car ruin the tread on your tires? Yep! Your skis are meant to be used and minimal rail damage usually doesn't effect the overall skiing experience.

4. What's the easiest trick to do? The absolute easiest trick to do?
The easiest trick to do is the ollie, jump, hop, pop, whatever you want to call it. Try popping off of little bumps in the trail and get comfortable being in the air with your skis. Try spread eagles, little shifties (throwing both skis to one side and/or the other while in the air then bringing them back to the place they started - for lack of a better definition)

5. Whats a good learning sequence?
I would say the best way to learn is to find some girls and/or guys you like to ski with and ski with them. Progression will happen at it's own pace. As long as you're having fun, you're doing it the right way!

6. Are hot pink ski pants ridiculous on girls?
They are ridiculously awesome and you just gave the few hundred guys searching for a ski chick a way to find you on the mountain.

-Don't worry about terminology, being cool, or whatever. That'll come the way it did for 90% of the people in skiing, by reading the forums on NS.com of course!

Just have fun and ski the way you think will work best for you. Know your limits and push them slightly but not too far. No one like's to get injured. Good luck and see ya on the slopes!

yea, I don't know about starting with 180s, I started with 3s and I think theyre a lot easier. unless she already knows how to ride switch, then it might be a tossup, but i think its easier just to commit off the lip and reach for your tails until you come around 3 for learners. have her ride the pipe too, it gets you comfortable spinning off lips both ways and being in the air. skis get damaged on rails if you do rails tons, but all the girls i know never had a problem with it because they vied on the side of boxes and didnt disaster or anything, and neither of them ever had a problem with ski edges or bases. And it doesnt really matter what you wear in the park. girls in the park are generally cool by default, unless theyre ramp tramps, but sounds like she actually wants to ski. yea, i think thats about all ive got....

By helmet cord do you mean the strap that goes under your chin? Because if you do that is a stupid thing to have done. It pretty much makes your helmet useless, it'll just fall off if you fall.

this

if someone was walking along the street and said YO CHECK OUT THIS SUPER HIGH OLLIE and jumped up a curb

point being there is a big difference between a skier hop and an ollie

all jokes aside though, if i saw this girl in the park id probably try to huck the dumbest shit. its my favorite method of progression.

"Our friend wants to bring her skiing into the park next year, heres some questions she has for NS:........"

You can't answer all these questions? Don't you ski?
