inb4 the hate.

Finally, Blink is working full force on the new record! And once or twice a week Mark is posting detailed updates from the studio. So far we've learned that they're aiming to finish recording by the end of the year, and have the record out by spring followed by a world tour!

In the most recent update Mark told us a little about some songs they've been working on and reveals a tentative title,"not for real." Needless to say I'm stoked as fuck.

Thursday Studio Report

Wednesday brought utter catastrophe to the B room of our studio. Complete meltdown of the hard drive/recording hardware setup. Many, many crashes and frustration. Chris, our trusted friend and engineer, fought the good fight, but the studio has been busy nonstop since we built the place, and years later is in desperate need of some upgrades. It happens. But consequently we were only able to record some background vocals before abandoning the studio. But keep in mind, those are probably the best background vocals EVER RECORDED!! Well, maybe not, but that’s the thought that keeps me from being annoyed at the studio situation. In any case, I used the found time to finish writing the lyrics to the track I was trying to sing.

Then today began anew, with a fresh lease on reality. The sun rose and with it, so did our good fortune, or something poetic and meaningless like that. We brought the BLUE bottle microphone, set up shop at my home studio, and I sang the song I wanted to sing yesterday. Success! Still deciding if the bridge section of the song would benefit more from vocals, some type of guitar solo thing, or a different element altogether. But good work done!

The song we’re working on is currently called “Not For Real.” I’m stoked on the way it’s coming together. It’s one of the more straight-forward songs so far, with kind of an up-tempo, indie-rock, Americana vibe to it. That’s where it stands today, at least. It may change several times more before we deem it “finished.”

And now, I will watch hockey. And college football. SPORTS!!!

went to their tour last summer....epic to the max!!! /claim.

Whereabouts did you see them?

I went in Marysville(CA) last summer, and I just saw them at Epicenter on the 26'th. It fucking ruled, they played so damn well(relatively of course)

we went to auburn Washington to watch em. haha drove all the way from montana...well worth it and more!

I like blink, I mean nostalgia is good. Heard they fucking blow live from all credible sources. I guess it's a good thing? Really haven't cared about them for a long time

yeah well I hate blink, with a passion. but since you told me you like title fight and man overboard, it's cool. lol

They Aren't technically good live but that's the whole charm of it. Just 3 dudes completely fucking hammered on stage, butchering their own songs and having the time of their lives. It's truly a great experience.

Wow, that sounds terrible. And you're bragging about driving 12 hours to see that? Not really a good thing when a band can't even play their own songs. And blink songs aren't exactly difficult to play.

ya they arent hard to play but they are popular is doesnt have to be all technical and shit

i dunno, they were pretty good when i went to see them last summer. they werent fucking up the songs and acting like retards, it was legit

Godamn right. I can hear them play well on the records. I drive 12 hours to hear/see them be themselves

Honestly, I used to hate them when I was in high school and was all high and mighty about punk music.

Looking back, their music is fun, energizing and very catchy. I approve of them.

i thought they were punk? i just call everything with a guitar rock and listen to it. i love blink 182

They can be categorized as pop-punk, which was out of the realm of street punk that I listened to more often.

Stoked for this. And when i saw them this summer they definitely had their shit together on stage, they werent hammered and butchering their songs at all. They sounded damn good in fact.

I commented that he drove 12 hours to watch a band that can't play their own songs, which are very easy to play.

he said

"Godamn right. I can hear them play well on the records. I drive 12 hours to hear/see them be themselves "

You go to hear it live to hear it live, not because they butcher the shit out of it.

By all means go hear them even if they suck live for nostalgia. you can say you saw your favorite band live. the one show at spac everybody went to see blink, and blink never even showed up.

they were awesome live i thought! not the best band i have ever seen live tho thats for sure. ive always been a fan of blink since like 5th grade haha, and its one of those shows i just had to see in my lifetime. i had a fan-fucking-tastic time, weezer was kick ass as well. its not so much the actual performance as it is the atmosphere and energy (not saying the performance was bad, it was really good). but ya....Yay blink! :D

not trying to be a music snob and this is coming from someone who loves Cheshire Cat and Dude ranch but blink 182 is pop music. not punk, not pop punk, just pop music.

the early albums were punk rock but now its just all about the $$$$$. its always been a shame watching these dudes create horrible side projects and put out bad records post enema of the state.

yeah i sounded like a music snob./rant

Why are you trying to make an argument out of this, It's lame.

I drove 12 hours because they're my favorite band of all time, and what inspired me to start playing music. Just so happens they don't give a fuck and have a good time. It's all a big party at their shows, and the ones I've been to have been the best shows I've ever seen.

And by the way, they do sound great when you're there, but when you see it on video you can tell the vocals aren't. Travis however never, ever messes up.

And they never showed because one of their best friends died(DJ AM)

You're right. You do.

just playin', but you do a little.

Boxcar racer is nothing short of excellent, and there is NO denying that Blink 182(the album, aka untitled) is musically, their best work, and most definitely alt. rock, not pop. Enema is the closest thing to pop they've ever put out.

Yeah it's mainstream, get over it. That doesn't make it bad.

I don't know why but in high school for some reason all my friends kept listening to Blink but I moved off and away from it.

Congrats for them getting together again but me personally, am not getting excited for it though.

Rammstein's first concert on American soil in 10 years though, that I am excited for though (even though it IS in fucking New York City).
