Blind skiing

I was skiing with a blind kid yesterday.

He's 11 years old and compleatly blind, no vision at all. His dad skis behind him and yells out "Right" or "Left". I thought it was pretty cool.

Then we went into Railyard and realized that it wasn't pretty cool. It was the goddamn coolest thing i have ever seen. His dad would stick his pole out and guide him over this 15 footer box (Skiing striaght over of course).

He'd direct him over the jumps in the Dogpatch park. (20ft tables)

and he's get about a foot below the lip in the 17 foot pipe. The kid was INSANE!

I've seen that shit on vacation at winterpark before, there were lots of handicapped people there.

If you're blind you might aswell stand in front of a fan with skis on, and just picture it, a lot safer.

That's so tight. You could stand in front of a fan, but it's just not the same. and I'd imagine that after you do it for a while you'd become good enough that it becomes fairly safe too. Not that I'm going to go through a park blindfolded to prove it anytime soon...

yeah WP is like a handicap skiing hotbed if you will. last season i had to help a dude in a chair ski who'd single released while getting up to the lip in the pipe. pretty impressive i thought.

hahaha, yeah. I was almost run over by like 5 blind skiers at hafjell, I was just standing still and waiting for my buddy when these skiers came right towards me, I was like wtf are you people gonna stop soon?? Then I heard some guy yelling: RIGHT, stop STOOOP!! I have to dive out of their way to not get smashed. haha, I didn't even know blind people ski

yeah I saw this kid probably in his 20's with one leg BOOOST 40 foot tables in the park, I was just like holy shit, thats rad

As cold hearted as that sounded, that was hilarious.

Blind skiiers do have a lot of guts, in fact, some blind skiiers around here are better than a lot of kids here.

thats cool, it sort of makes you think that if he had no vision from birth then how does he know what snow looks like, what it is that he is skiing on and the environment around him. sort of makes you think how you take things for granted.

i saw a guy playing golf that was blind, he could hit better then me. i thought that was cool.

eh what happens when the kid doesnt hear left? and keeps going straight into someone or off a cliff? isnt it a bit dangerous, especially w. jumps and not seeing the landing? crazy

Wow, that is pretty nuts. Can you imagine how much trust that must take? Because you will never see that feature and for all he knows it could be like over a pit of flaming death. Much respect for him, that's really cool.

he probably lost his vision and skied before because if u were blind ur whole life u probably wouldnt think hmmm i want to ski, seeing as u had no idea what it was like or what it looked like.

i wonder if someone who is blind from birth knows the difference between light and dark

Here's a pic.
