I don't know if this has been posted before but whatever. I am on Verizon and I have a Samsung Alias. I am due for an upgrade, and am looking at new phones. I heard that Blackberrys take their own plan, and was wondering if this is true.
Right now, I am just on my family plan, so would I have to pay extra to replace my Alias with any given Blackberry? Hope this made sense.
 
depends on what you want to do with it. i have a blackberry, i just upgraded my plan, originally i didn't want to browse the net on it, just get emails and texts and phone calls. now i decided to browse the net on it, so i have to pay extra for that. it's pretty much the same as any other phone.
 
So if I was to not change my plan at all and get a blackberry over an LG Dare for example, my plan wouldn't increase in price?
 
i was wondering this same thing so i went to verizon and asked. a blackberry can not work at all with out the added data plan(an extra $45 a month added to your current plan)
 
sounds like this is your answer. that blows though, an extra $45...must be different for you guys than it is here in canada, i'm only paying a little more than my sister (for the internet) and she just has a little LG flip-phone.
 
get an ipone. I upgraded (resigned contract) and got the voyager. Have online but its no comparison and costs about the same as the Iphone. I wish i woulda gone with the Iphone.
 
I would, but Verizon is the only provider that works in my area.
And an extra $45 really blows. I guess that rules out a Blackberry.
 
You need the additional data plan for an Iphone too. Iphone's turn out to be way way more expensive than any other phone.

You're basically looking at something like this:

Regular Phone Pacakage and either

a) Blackberry data plan

b) Iphone data plan

c) No data plan if you don't get a smart phone.

For me on ATT, my data plan is an extra $24 a month. That really isnt' too too bad. It would be around $45 extra a month for the Iphone plan, so $20 more expensive for me. I find it hard to believe that Verizon's data plan for bb's is $45 but it could be I guess. You should go in and talk to them. And make sure you have them tell you all the extra data fees you'll have to get cause that is where they can rape you.
 
Well since a blackberry is out, I guess I have two new questions:
1. I think my next two choices would be the LG Dare or Motorola Krave. Any feedback?
2. Anyone know of any cool new Verizon phones set to be released in the next month or so that I should hold out for (besides the Blackberry Storm)?
 
i say go with the Dare, seeing as how i've never even heard of the Krave. but seriously, if it weren't so expensive i'd tell you to go with the blackberry, because they are definitely the sickest phones ever. i guess you could go for the iPhone if you wanted to be hip and trendy instead of business-orientated though, they both do the same things.
 
Like I said, I would get an iPhone, but I don't get AT&T where I am. Here is a pic of the crave; it looks pretty sick.

If you don't have the money for a blackberry then there is no way you'd be able to afford an iPhone. If you have the cash for an iPhone, get a blackberry. Possibly even a storm. Simple.
 
The dare is really good, the Voyger is wicked slow to go between programs plus it is super thick. If I was going to go with a phone it would be the dare. The touch screen is really nice, it seems faster then the Iphone, internet works great..
 
i'm holding out for the storm which is set to be released the 15th of this month. i don't know if it's an extra $45 or not for it. my parents pay for my plan (not phone) but if the extra $45 is in it i'll be paying that.
 
i didnt really read many other posts, but here is the low down

with a blackberry on vzw, you are required to get a blackberry data plan, which is basically just a complete data plan, with unlimited email, text, and web surfing. the minutes still depend on which tier plan you are on.

as far as which phone to get, the best phone available will be the storm, its worth the wait, especially from an alias. any blackberry on vzw is pretty good because it gets you away from their stupid ui that they force onto manufacturers and put in almost all of their phones. if you dont wanna drop as much cash though, the curve and the pearl are both still pretty nice.
 
Yeah, the storm looks super sick. I just can't afford the $540 a year that comes with it, leading me to a more generic Verizon phone, like the Dare or Krave.
 
i dont know if its the same for you, but im with ROGERS and all i did was take my sim card out of my sony ericsson and pop it into my blackberry world. all i have is talk and text like on my sony, but if i wanted internet acess and email it would cost more for a better plan. if you want a BB and internet got for the BB BOLD because it has the new 3G internet technology that iphones and shit all have these days.
 
I saw the Krave at the verizon store today. Honestly, it's not really my thing, but if you like it go for it. It looks weird.

and no, you can't use a blackberry on verizon without a data plan

I've had one

switched to a smart phone and i dont have to have one now.
 
$540 a year?

i know you can get the unlimited data plan for $30 a month now. that's pretty sick, i pay $20 a month extra for unlimited texts so i'm pretty stoked on that. $10 more for internet and email is a deal.

anyways i'm just hoping for the storm to come out by the end of november. i've seen videos and it looks wayyyyyy sick.
