Hope this isnt a repost, but from the short bit of reading I've done on this... This cam looks unreal for under 3k

Two things that suck me off, 1. internal battery and 2. canon ef lenses only. bullshit.
 
I've got my eye on this thing for sure. Definitely not stoked on the internal battery though... I don't think it would be a great camera to be the only one in your quiver, but at that price it seems worth picking up to have for certain gigs. I love the look of some of that test footage though; the dynamic range is wild. I have a feeling they'll do a firmware update at some point for 60p as well. I'll probably wait til the summer to check out more reviews/footage from it, but I'm definitely thinking about grabbing one at some point.
 
Internal battery is fucking dumb. I'd be sweet if they had other mount options, but im on ef already so its no biggie for me. As stupid as it may sound, iif I were to get this I would use it at just as full hd. Not the 2k res, no way my computer could handle it. I wanna see some sample video from this
 
The internal battery is a non-issue. It accepts a very wide range of voltage input which allows you to add add batteries onto your rig. Yes, this camera is meant to be on a rig of some sort. The touchscreen is a not what we're used to but I think it will be okay. Who where's gloves when they film? I sure as hell don't even when it's extremely cold. They make gloves that work with touch screens by the way......

This camera is a game changer folks. BMCC came out of nowhere and Canon shit the bed this year at NAB and with the 5DMKIII. Wait until you see the new camera developments that this will force big companies to make in the next year or so.

Internal battery sucks, but it isn't surprising since this thing is obviously meant to be studio rigged (cube shape). The real bummer here is EF mount, which is probably my least favorite mount ever made. m4/3 or C mount would make much more sense, and it would allow the use of much better lenses (m4/3 lenses put L glass to shame for video). Couldn't care less about lack of 60p, but I wouldn't complain if they implemented it.

I'm going to wait until they fix the lens mount before I consider buying it.
 
I don't know much about cinema cameras but i think its really sick you can record to an SSD drive. I'm not sure how i feel about the UI, do other cinema cameras have that polished look? I've always liked the raw bland setup dslrs have
 
C mount lenses aren't big enough for this sensor. It sits smaller than a m43 but larger than S16

And for you guys saying frame rates may come with a firmware upgrade, just so you know, most sensors are limited via hardware and the sensor themselves than by software. they can *only* read max X frames / sec at resolutions at XX bit RAW

That was my favorite joke as well. Or the fact that a majority of the people in the room left when he asked who owned Canon DSLRs.
 
Why do you hate EF so much?

Also, the advantage of EF is that you can use vintage glass on it. Big pre for 'low' budget filmmakers who would resort to a cam like this and not something in the 10.000$+ price range.
 
E mount is better (13mm flange distance, adaptable for like EVERY lens) but sony are retarded when it comes to giving out the rights to use it on systems. Shame as they'd make BANK.
 
when has sony ever given out licensing rights for their systems? probably why the xqd format will fail
 
What does flange distance matter? When it comes to that EF is about the best mount you can get - unless we're talking something mirrorless.
 
Ok. But what glass would you seriously be missing out on? Except for M and G I wouldn't know. Also C-mount, but according to Slandypoo the quality wouldn't be high enough, and I trust him on that one.
 
its not a quality issue with c mount, but an issue of it not being large enough to cover the whole sensor.
 
C mount lenses are much higher quality than stills lenses. I was kind of hoping for an s16 sensor because s16 cinema lenses are amazing and at least somewhat feasible price wise. It seems with EF mount they're just perpetuating the use of stills lenses (dumb). It makes sense from a business aspect, but its still a bummer.
 
I usually shoot gloveless. It sucks for a while, but then you get used to it. Definitely possible, and in my opinion easier, but to each his own.

guarantee they are trying to snag some current 5d2 users over to their system, so why not make use of a widely available lens format that many of their potential buyers would already have

Forgot about Minolta, but that's not really important. As far as FD goes... good glass for sure. And it'd be nice to adapt fo sho.

I wonder if people are a lot less stoked on the D800's video capabilities now that this has came out.
 
and they are successful. DVXuser had SEVERAL posts that say "wow this camera is awesome, and the EF mount means I don't have to sell my current glass!"

 
Yeah. This is probably the easiest, big step up from everyones DSLR shooting. 90% of the DSLR shooters use Canon probably, so no big deal. I'm not surprised they use the EF mount really.
 
i mean i used to live in montana i kniw what its like to use gloves ha ive used gloves filming before too but 90% of my ski days i dont use gloves. i just dont like them
 
Filming off of a tripod my hands typically dont get very cold, but i HATE using my glidecam without gloves on. I need to find some thin ones.
 
go and get a pair of pipe gloves. theyre thin enough to work with a camera, but will keep your hands warmer(not warm, but warmer).
 
Definitely a second camera sort of body. For cinema type shorts and what not. no 60p kinda sucks but thats why it would be great for most other stuff. and 2.5k is dope on a rope. Price is amazing. and I dont mind that they chose to just do the ef mount.

For the price, it is well worth it.
 
Overall, what would you say is better for this camera? I'm interested to see what people prefer when it comes to glass. Obviously most of us are limited by our body, but for people who might make the choice when buying an advanced body with the option for both, how would you decide?
 
Well, alot of people already have EF glass, which is why BM made their camera that way. They opened up to a HUGE market by doing so and it was very smart of them. I just have all nikon glass (started with redrock m2 35mm adapter for my hvx now im using the fs100) and whats great about using nikon glass for non-nikon cameras is that 90% of the lenses have aperture rings and the other 10% can be controlled by a non-electric control on the rear of the lens. Because of this, adapters are cheaper than canon adapters because canon you need to change the iris electronically. You can use nikon lenses on any camera and have full manual control, unlike canon lenses. But, since BM build the EF mount into their camera, it will have the full control of the lenses, which is a big plus. Tons of 7d/5d users have probably already ordered the BMC and have 10k in canon glass to use on it.
