Black holes

black holes have always interested me. like the power they have and all...and whats on the other side...its physics ill never understand but the whole thing ive always been really interested in. like aparently light cant make it to the other side of a black hole...the light gets sucked right in...man im all interested now haha im gona read some shit

There is no "other side". Black holes are just objects so massive that light cannot escape. They are made up of incredibly dense material, but there is no "other side" to them.

I want a black hole to form and end all eternity as we know it.

but living to experience it and see it would be amazing.

You cant go in and come back out, if thats what your getting at. I think the idea is that they have a massive gravitational pull to the center/end of the tunnel thing. I would bet if a planet/spaceship/unlucky dude got sucked up it would be the end of space and time for whatever got sucked up, but for anything else, no. I'm not sure if you actually get sucked up, I just know that the gravitational force is eneough to crush just about anything that would enter, and that nobody knows whats at the center, or end, because there is really no deffinitive way to study it.

the gravitational pull is so strong that it would literally pull you into something that resembles a string as you got within a few million miles. Since gravity increases as distance decreases, the gravity at your feet (if you were going in feet first) would be greater than the gravity at your head and you would be stretched out. No joke.

I've taken one college level astronomy class which talked about it. One of my roommates is has taken three, including one entitled "Black Holes". He reads Stephen Hawking for fun.

a black hole is a peice of matter smaller than a marble and weighs a trillion bazillion megamillion tons. so when you get sucked into it, you become part of the marble

supposedly a black hole is one of the ways that could end life on earth. Basically we would be able to predict the exact day we die. and it would be a slow painful death. As the black hole comes closer it will slowly stretch youbody apart. At first this may actually feel good, skin expands and it feels great to stretch. But in a short time, the good stretch is going to turn into pain, then excrusiating pain. Then finally your limbs will rip off one by one and your body will rip into pieces. Then, existence as we know it is gone. Sounds fun.

Our entire solar system is orbiting around a black hole. I believe it is called M47. I did some research on Black Holes a while back...

the singularity or center of the black hole is where the Gravitation pull is the strongest. So strong it can bend/absorb light which leads one to wonder. Where does the light go? Is there perhaps an n-dimensional space we do not know exsists? Which theory of light does this support? Wave or particle theory? Why base a theory on a theory. Regardless, here is a slick animation of what it would be like to approach a theoretical object of infinite mass.

Once you are within 1 Schwarzschild radius, which is located right at the event horizon (the ring of light that can be found around the black hole) There is such an inconceivably strong force of gravity such that you could theoretically never return. For some reason light gathers in this region, which clearly supports the combined theory that light may be both a particle and a wave form.

Theres a word for that. It resembles spagetti, which I cant spell to start with. Its somethin like spagettification, but yeah

There's a PBS movie about the String Theory (what you all are talking about, basically). It's very interesting, but quite long.

So, go watch if you're interested in Black Holes, the end and beginning of the Universe, and all that jazz.

the gravitational force is so strong ur feet goes faster than ur head and like u get ripped into pieces! they r too cool. fun stuff

Whats really cool is that you would actually never 'fall' into a singularity. Gravity would distort spacetime so much that time would slow down so much that it would stop. Even if you could survive the incredible temperature and gravity, you would never reach the singularity. Time would seemingly just stop for you, and you would vanish to the outside observer (if light reflecting off your object could actually reach another observer). I love cool shit like this, weird shit is out there in our world.

read hyperspace - by michio kaku (sp) - all about black holes, 10 dimensional space and superstring theory

this book goes into black holes and makes them understandable (or as much as humans know about them anyway) but over serves to show how little we know and how everything is based on shaky assumptions- and realizing that- fucks with your head.

^ no you'd be compressed. black holes are like everything collapsing onto it(them)self so you'd go from your current size to something so ridiculously small and dense that we really can;t fathom it.

that's funny, i've been in a black hole and came out the same as when i went in, maybe just a little more stoked, but nothing changed

you never know what you'll find in new york...

i've heard alot of theorys on black holes but i donn't know if any of them are true, well i don't think anyone can say 100% that its true but one theory is the there is a black hole at the center of every galaxy and that the galaxy is slowly being sucked into the black hole and its orbiting it. another one on how black holes are formed was that once a super nova happens then it can turn into a neutron star which is so increddibly heavy that it rips a hole in time and space itself... those are a couple of things i have read/ heard about.

i love how fucken arrogant some human beings can be.

especially that dumb fucken criple hawkins. All his theories are just guesses based on the guesses of others. He really has no idea what the fuck hes talking about

Want the secret to the universe? TRICK QUESTION WE AS A SPECIES ARE TOO SIMPLE TO EVEN BEGIN UNDERSTANDING IT.

Of course, what YOU just said wasn't arrogant at all. You certainly know your shit, Mr.Piot. So YOU behold the secrets of our universe. Kewl. Damn, too bad that cripple Hawkins didn't just think of asking you.

There is a theory that goes as this:

In our current world, we can travel any demension in space (ie, you are free to move up, down, sideways, around etc) but can only move one direction in time (ie you can only let time go by, you cannot go back in time, etc).

If you were to be inside the swatchild radius of a black hole, time and space would swith places. Therefore you could only travel one dimension in space (farther into the black hole) but you would then be able to travel any dimension in time (forwards, backwards, whereever you want).

Anyways thats a time travel theory thats pretty cool.

Take Astrophysics at university, it's a wicked course and the whole field is constantly changing with new theories being developed and defeated. There is so much left to still discover!

ya, because hawking claims he's right. thats why he comes up with his THEORIES. which are THEORIES. which are in turn not proven. that's why he's changed his mind a few times....but surely you already knew that, because you did research before you tried to make yourself sound smart, right?

and even if he is crippled, he is infinitely smarter than you will ever even come close to being (or any of us for that matter), therefore you have no room to talk.

and if we are too simple to begin understanding it, i guess we should just stop thinking. i mean, it's not like we've, you know, landed on the moon or anything. and its not like we, you know, sent unmanned space craft to the edge of our solar system. i mean, that kind of stuff would just be way too complicated for our simple minds.

Yeah. I love all those crazy theories. They're all so interesting. Espically stuff about astrophysics. I love it. I wish I had an astrophysics class at my highschool.

1. thats why its a theory. Because it is not 100% true and currently there is no technology to 100% prove it and there may never be. And most things in science are only theoretical but they have been tested to a point beyond a reasonable doubt as to how they could be true within our realm of understanding. But since there is no G.U.T. (grand unified theory) there is no 100% certainty. General relativity applies to almost every situation in our daily lives but on super small levels ( string theory) general relativity actually breaks down.

2. There is not a black hole at the center of every galaxy. There certainly has to be some incredibly dense object in order to warp the fabric of space great enough to keep an entire universe in place but some do contain Stars and some do contain black holes.

3. A super nova isnt something that happens. It is an incredibly large star. They definately have the potential to become a black hole once they breakdown due to their amazing size and, density.

heres a brain teaser I came up with: As you go further and further into a black hole, you speed up more and more until you approach the speed of light. As we all know, time slows the faster you go, until you hit the speed of light where time stands still. So, in theory, you can never truly become part of the hole since as you accelerated time would slow until it ceased to exist.

deep huh.

theoretically the singularity would be the center and is rotating just like the rest of the black hole so you would be orbitating something infinately small at the speed of light.

But its even more complex than that, since gravity can also warp space-time. Because black holes have such a incredible gravity due to thier mass, the fabric of space-time would be so distorted that time wouldnt even exist in the singularity. You wouldnt be torn apart atom by atom if you got sucked into a singularity - time would just stop for you, which is even weirder to think about.

Also, there are 11 dimensions that we can theoretically show right now via quantum theory. Crazy, eh? 4 are space (3 dimensions) and time, while 5 and 6 are related to imaginary time (I wont even get into this, but check it out if your interested, wikipedia is a great resource here!). 7 and beyond are other dimensions that make up the fabric of our universe that are so tiny we cant see them. They arent strings, as string theory predicts, but are somewhat related to strings. Its really hard to imagine something being there that we cant see, but think of it like this - to us, a human hair looks 2 dimensional, right? Its just a line. However, if you use a microscope and zoom in, you'll see its actually a 3D tube. Well, thats sorta like how these other dimensions would be like. They dont look like anything from far out, but if you go in to the very very small levels, you could observe them.

Ahhh, Astro and Quantum physics are incredibly cool fields, almost wants to make me give up Biology.

Once you hit the event horizon that is the last visible image of what ever enters it. It would be dope to throw and NS sign into one and than have a Black hole branded with the NS logo

fuck man this stuff is sooooo damn interesting.

i watched a show about time travel awhile ago and it was saying how the only way a "time machine" would have enough energy to work is by getting energy from a black hole, and you would be accelerating at 1.5 g's for something like 6 years to get to light speed, but that would only get you to light speed making time stop, getting past light speed is what they arent sure about. the only part that we might know how to do is getting the energy from the black hole, but it would take a huge amount of materials, like more than what exists on earth, more money than the entire world, and it would take forever because you have to find the black hole first, and get close enougn which could take thousands and thousands of years with our technology now.

they had another theory for time travel but i kinda forgot it, it was about getting into a black hole and somehow surviving, which might be possible if some theory's are right, and since they are so powerfull it is the only thing that can travel or make something travel faster than the speed of light, which would make you go back in time, but then im not sure how you would get out?

i also saw a show that was about how you could live forever and it had to do with black holes, but i forget that one.
