If anyone's seen this movie, do you remember the pilot that got captured? My dad and I were watching it tonight and he told me he met that guy. I guess my dad's friend was good friends with him. He was from Berlin, NH, and he told my dad a lot of his story. He wrote a book called "In the Company of Heroes". Anyway, I thought it was pretty cool how he shared all that stuff with my dad.

Very cool, I think I actually have that book somewhere in my house, just haven't had the time to read it.

its interesting hearing the stories of ex-military people.

we had this russian who was ex-special forces paint our house. that was pretty cool stories.

Yea man, my neighbor was in the battle of Iwo Jima. He said the pacific islands were hell. Disease infested, bomb craters everywhere, and dead limbless bodies. He only talked about it once in a great while, usually when he was drunk. He lived to 95 smoked 2 packs a day for 18 years...also was a hell of a drinker. When he told me about Iwo Jima and how he saw hand -to-hand fighting it just blew my mind that someone actually had to experience what he went through.

Yeah, the book is also a little bit more true, but he said the movie was pretty accurate.

books are always better than the movies. always. even books that are written from a movie (like pearl harbor. the one with ben affleck.) are better than the movie.

I wouldn't say always...I think Holes was a much better movie than book. I just couldn't portray a lot of the images in the book...anyway back to the subject yea some guy that works with my dad's father was in a tank with General George Patton. That must have been a great honor.

i would like to meet the people who fought in samalia, the movie is amazing and those men were real heroes, it would seriously be an honer to meet one of them

NIICE DUDE!! my dad knows the one helicopter pilot that is in one of the scenes..like not the guy from the movie...but the real guy that did that...my dad was in the military for 18yeras

Hm let's think about this. Maybe it was to tell a true story? This was one of the one very humane and needed operations in the US'S recent history...it damn well deserves to be told. The shit they did there was for the good of the Somali people, there was nothing in it for us. I'm very proud to say my country helped try and save a country where death and destruction were all too common.

thats cool that your dad new that guy but i dont like that moive it's just like 2 1/2 hours of shooting and killing there isent a verry good story to it

yeah it was a tru story abotu trying to save somolia but there was no story base ...usually when it says based on a true story theere is some fiction in it which creates the base but not in this movie unless the point was to save the helicopters that crashed

never read the book but the movie is basically a two hour firefight, pretty sick.

it got ripped on bad though cuz of the end, where it said " 24 american soldiers and over 2000 somalies lost their lives" and then it listed the names of the americans. good movie, busting at the seams with imperialist bullshit.

God damn you sure are thick. The point of the story is to do your own damn research. Read a little on what happened. This movie was brought to show urban warfare in a realistic way. That's what it's like. You don't know your enemy, but they know you. The point wasn't to save the helicopters. Did you not watch the beginning or the part where they take prisoners? Did you not see them throw food out only to gun down those who would recieve it. That really happened. There were filmers who captured the horrible acts of the warlord Mohamed Aidid. If you can't see a point in that then you truly are stupid. Before complaining that the movie doesn't feed it to you on a spoon, dust off that thing in your head and use it.

That's his story to tell...I really suggest you read his book. I find it really interesting what they did with him.

Why the hell would you hate Clinton for that? He did a god damn good thing. Sure we may have lost some American lives, but we saved the lives of hundreds of thousands of Somalis that would have starved to death had we not intervened. It's one of the few police actions I thoroughly agree with. This actually makes me like Clinton.

yea dude, clinton was awsome. did alot for us. hes president pimp in my book. gettin head in the white house...what a silly.

He also helped out in Bosnia and other regions of Yugoslavia. There was no oil there, so you can't blame that on him. He really wasn't that great. I just admire him actually helping people in struggle with no benefit to himself.
