Black Crows de-lamination + warranty issues.

Hey guys, long time lurked first time poster. I wanted to get everyones opinion on my current predicament:

Im based in Whistler and have owned my black crows animas for 2 years. they are great skis but sadly they started to delaminate after a year. I sent a warranty request showing images of lightly used (maybe 20 days) skis and the delamination and was told that they could not help me.

I have 3 other pairs of heavily used and tip-chipped black crows and have never had this problem before, so I went back to them asking them to reconsider. They said no again.

Now the second ski has started to delaminate at the top. It's important to note there have been no big impacts or horrible moments to cause this layer to peel away, the tips of the skis are lightly worn. I told Black crows customer service this and they have stopped replying to my emails which i was a little put out by.

I took my skis to my trusted tuner here in whistler who always raves about the quality of the wood cores and construction in the black crows but even he told me they should be warrantied as this was below the norm quality manufacturing for them. Now one ski is slighty de-lamming at the tip and the other has delaminated down one side underneath where it was originally regued by my tuner. My tuner has, for my sake, refused to glue the skis again as he thinks such an expensive pair of skis should warrant some sort of customer support / warranty.

I wanted to post here to see if anyone had had similar issues with this and to get peoples opinion on the de-lamination pictured below.

Cheers!

Pictured are the animas in question (White), which have around 30-35 days skiing on them now.

Also pictured are as well as two other pairs of heavily used black crows skis in our household which have many more tip chips / general wear and more than 100 days of skiing each. None of these skis have de-lamination issues.

Any feedback here much appreciated! Am I belong unreadable with my warranty request of Black crows?

Thanks!

Charlie

It looks like just the top sheet layer peeling off which is a bummer for sure but not a super big deal. It seems like it should still be covered by warranty though, did you buy them direct from Black Crows or from a retailer?

Thanks for the reply!

I brought the skis from a retailer here in Whistler but when I went to warranty the skis initially this store was closed due to C19. This is why I chose an online warranty method.

Do you think I might have more luck going back to the store I brought it at and trying that route? That's an interesting idea.

I feel like you are right - It should be covered by warranty.

Cheers

I had a pair of marker griffons that broke (the first of three times they broke) and Marker literally ignored me from the get go. I had purchased them from Evo and went through Evo and they were super helpful. Unfortunstely, Marker was unhelpful to them as well and I didn't get a new binding for 3.5 months, most of ski season. Got decent at snowboarding that season... Anyways, the retailers will usually be able to pursuade the suppliers better than you the customer. Hopefully they have reopened for ya

Yeah the retailer will likely have a better rapport with the company. Most warranties detail that you should file the claim where you bought the product. The shop will want to keep you happy and Black Crows will prob. want to keep the shop happy so they are less likely to lose wholesale orders.

Black Crows falling apart I'm shocked.

Yeah I was gonna say. I skied these long before they entered the US market and ever since then there has been a pretty obvious decline in quality. I had a customer who came in a few weeks ago for a mount on a brand new pair of Orb Freebirds, he said it was his 4th pair in 2 years. Apparently on every single ski, the core split horizontally, so the top half of the wood, the upper fiberglass and the topsheet would split (like, you could put your hand through the ski like side to side). He showed me pictures of every pair to prove it too. I have a Nocta from 2014 that I’ve beat to shit and it’s still skiing just fine, but the new stuff seems to be pretty lame in quality.

I have a pair of Atris’ and I fucking hate them. Wish mine would delam or split in half our get stolen or catch on fire or anything really. They just really fucking suck.

I want new skis.

If its just the top sheet it's really more of a visual thing than anything. That being said they should warranty this and taking it to where you bought it is your best bet. If you cant get it warrantied then don't sweat it too much. It might look super beaten but all the top sheet does is protect the core and top fiberglass layer(s) and look pretty. The big one to watch out for is getting water into an exposed core, that will end the ski fast.

FWIW I have a 2017 pair of Camox's and they are okay durability-wise, no glaring issues like edge pull outs or de-laminations, but plenty of chipping, one ripped out binding screw, and a few edge cracks after 3 years of use. Meh 6.5/10 on durability, def better than salomon, line, or faction but nothing special.
