my favourite b&w film is kodak tri-x 400. very versatile and pushes very well, with a pleasing grain pattern. not at all what you're looking for by the sounds of it. all of the ilford delta series is good. or there's the kodak t-max range, which can be quite high in contrast, but is a 100 film (i think you can also get 400). it really depends what you want to use it for. i'd probably try either a delta 100 or a tri-x 400 for snow. another important question is do you process the film yourself or get it sent off?
