Bitchin bout passes and abusive ski resorts

Love when buddies who started to ride a year or 2 ago complain about ski resorts raising prices/introducing optional passes (parking, singles, etc). Prices are skyrocketing because of the massive influx of new passes sold. Buddy bought an epic, skied 4 days, then bitched about how busy and expensive resorts have become… 9 months after moving to Denver.

Love it when kids who just started skiing 6 years ago think prices are increasing on passes because of popularity and not because they're being consolidated by a couple of major corporations who can raise the prices because there's no more competition.

Yeah no shit, except my ikon was less that a seasons pass 2 years ago. Local mountain, bought by ikon, 200$ less.
 
I love how I deselected auto renew for my wife, but not my pass. whoops! I wonder how many people are on auto renew with epic and don't even know it.

Yeah I agree it's more than just the one factor of corporate greed, i just don't know if we should put the blame on more people buying passes and joining the sport.

I totally agree, stoked people are riding and it’s fun to connect with them over that. I guess it’s just the complaints about the changing atmosphere from people that contribute to that change (the popularity, it’s double edged)

The mega corps just suck people in with there fancy recliner heated 8 pack lifts with foot warmers and chairlift meals. Eventually people will realize it’s not even really skiing and completely stupid. Might see a large influx of skiers at places like magic that have a tiny lodge/bar two chairlifts and great vert and terrain. Half these fools rather stand in a 30min line then walk on and take a slow double for 15min. Chair lift therapy never hurts and it’s half the time. People at snow when I used to go there 2015ish would wait at the 6 pack bubble for 20 or so minutes instead hopping on the no wait express quad right next to it. It’s no longer about the sport as much as amenities and status of individual peaks and perks that come with it. I think it’s why the Midwest survives this better. There’s no glory in installing a high speed quad on a 250vert hill that’s 20below zero all the time. It’s definitely the conglomerates competition destroying prices as you said to fund absurd projects.

Ikon base pass is literally $400 cheaper than a Mount Snow season pass 10-15 years ago. Can’t speak on other mountains but considering inflation, that’s a massive decrease in pass price lol

I think most people that regularly ski snow or from the area would pay way more for everyone else to fuck off. The mountain is barely skiable anymore

They're cutting costs by eliminating the parks so it'll be an over-crowded shit show with no park. Hey, at least the pass is cheaper! LOL

And they still probably make bank for their 7 days or something that’s on ikon. Shit is nuts.
 
Its only going to get worse with winters getting shorter and shittier they want their guaranteed money and don't want to let you get your 2-3 days in when you feel like it if you aren't 'core' for a reasonable amount they want $200+/pop if you try and go that route.

I think its awesome because all the hoards just can't say no to the super passes.

Killington does the same just not to that extent. I think the cheapest adult is just over 1100 and goes up to over 1600 if you wait. you can add an ikon for only a couple hundred to each option. I do hate the number of people that show up for powder days and clog the entire place up with their ikon pass. keeps both parties marginally happy I'd say.

Crystal just made there's like 1700. For just crystal. Midweek with blackouts isnt terrible. 675. And weekend after march 15th. 17000 is woah though.

That said people botch a bunch on socials, but those lots are going to be full every day on the weekends.
