Ok so Im in ninth grade so this doesnt have to be a crazy good story or anything but for biology we were supposed to come up with some analogies and relate something in real life to organelles. I chose to do a ski area.
Cell Analogies
The nucleus is like the head manager at a ski area because they both control what happens in the cell and at the mountain.
The golgi complex is like a chairlift at a ski area. They both transfer things around. The only difference is the golgi complex transports nutrients while a ski lift transfers me around the mountain.
The cytoplasm is like the snow on the mountain because they each control and allow things to move around.
The endoplasmic reticulum is like the lodge where you can get food because the ER produces protein and you can get protein at a ski lodge.
The cell wall is like the mountain of a ski area itself because they both a rigid structures that help hold up and support everything.
The cell membrane is like the ski area boundary because you can get in and out of each but it is still boundary.
The vacuole is like the bathroom because they each store waste. The only difference is I don’t think a bathroom stores many nutrients.
Lysosomes are like the janitors who clean everything up at the ski area because each one helps clean up all the waste.
The mitochondrion is like the generator that powers everything at a ski area. If your cell has a power source like Kirkwood it is probably dead.
Anyway we also had to write a story and I thounght I might share it with you guys since it was about skiing. btw i still havent quite made the finishing touches. It is also only supposed to be a short story
Kirkwood’s Bad Generator (mitochondria)
I awake to beautiful snow covered mountains (cell wall). Yawning, I stand up and jumped in the car. I speed off towards Kirkwood. I know in my mind it was going to be and epic powder day. 40 minutes later I pull up to Kirkwood. The sun is creeping through the trees. I look up at the mountain exclaim,” It’s going to be a sick day!” I lazily split me skis and begin to drag them towards the ski lift (golgi complex). My hand clenches the back of my pants, and I yank them up as step into my skis. The lift (golgi complex) isn’t running yet and it’s ten o’clock. It should have been running an hour ago. I’m about to bail when I see the manager (nucleus). Slowly creeping towards the lift (golgi complex). His face does not have a good countenance. I can tell this is not going to be good.
The manager whispers something is the lifties ear. Then the lifty stands up and announces, “ The ski area cannot run due to a power outage (bad mitochondria). I silently curse to myself. Looks like I’m going to have to find something else to do today. By now it’s twelve so I head over to the lodge (endoplasmic reticulum) to grab some grub and got to the bathroom (vacuole). In the bathroom I come across my good friend Joe cleaning some toilets. I question him,” Joe, I didn’t know you were a janitor (lysosome) here?” Joe replies,” Yep I’ve been working here for five days and already hate this job.” I then think to myself I’m so glad I’m going to college. Joe interrupts my thoughts by saying” Hey me and a couple of my buddies are heading out to do some hiking and build a jump in a bit. You want to come?” I happily reply,” Yes.”
Joe, some of his friends and I begin the long grueling trek to the top of the mountain. We make our way past the out of bounds sign (cell membrane). We know better then to try and build a jump in bounds. I see a large roll 20 yards or so down from us. The spot has been decided. . We take a couple hours to construct the jump. We also spend a good deal of time stamping out the in run to the jump because we don’t want to pull any Tanner Halls. I decide to go first. As I drop in I decide that my day might not go so bad after all.
