Bindings and butters

My bindings pop out easily when I do some nose presses on flat ground and because of that I always hesitate to work on nose butters because I don't want it popping out mid-turn or something.

I'm 5'9" 140 lbs, front and back din is set to 5 on salomon z10s. The thing is they always stay on when they're supposed to and they always pop out when they should. I had a bit of a scare a while back and the whole time I was thinking "please pop out" and it did.

What should I do to remedy this nose pressing problem?

check your foward pressure. make sure that it is correctly set. maybe turn up your dins. i dont know about a salomon din chart but on rossi/look i am about your size 5'10 but 150 pounds with 315 bsl and im set at a 7 for type three skier. whats your Boot Sole Length? what skier type are you?

Im 5-10 180lbs riding a 185 with a rossi scratch ti 140 binding set at 10 with correct forward pressure. I was having prerelease issues and realized after about 10 days that there is nothing wrong with the binders, but my four year old boots have badly worn toe and heel lugs which I need to replace asap.

How would I find my BSL? It's a Dalbello Rampage in 9 1/2 (27.5). I would consider myself an aggressive skier. My first year in the park and do a bunch of jibbing along with bombing down hills, not really that big of a carver.

the bl is in mm and written usually on the side of the boot near the heal area. How long have you had the boots. Honestly, I think solly bindings kind of suck.

you sure? People seem to say that if your bindings work like they're supposed to (ie staying on when you want them to and getting off when you want them to) then they're in a good spot.

thats true, but yours are ovbiously not doing what there supposed too.

im almost identical to you and i have my DIN at 7.5. at 6 mine would just pop out on butters now mine work nice and pop out when i need them to.

ok thanks, I just wanted to make sure with you guys before I ruin myself. Should I only adjust the din for the back or what?

a look or rossi you could ski at 5 or 6 at your weight and have no problem. If you crank up to 7 or 8 dont expect to come out 8 times out of 10 when you fall. You will sprain knees, ankles, etc before you actually come out of the binding. Still, most expert skiers are willing to make this sacrifice, including myself

I'll look into that. Can I leave the fronts at 5 and the backs around 7ish?

Sorry for all these questions but this place is closer to interaction with knowledgeable skiiers than irl. I'm pretty much the only skier in my group of friends.

A DIN of 5 seems really low for 5'9 140lbs.. I'm 5'8 160lbs, and I'm at a DIN of 8 per the shop. (which works fine for look/rossi bindings) For Salomon bindings I had the same problem, pre-releasing while buttering, I had to increase them to 9-10, sometimes I crank the heel up to 11. I still trust the look/rossi bindings on 8 over the Salomons on 11 for buttering though.

there is a chart at your local ski shop, they tak into account your height, weight, skier ablity and boot sole lenght. go use it and have your bindings tested if you think there is something wrong. i'm 5' 9" 155 on a 27.5 boot (can't remember the mm lenth) and on a type 3 skier i'm at 7 1/2 din. also if you have adjusted your bindings to fit a new boot or a friends boot make sure you have it set right, if it is too tight on the boot or too lose you can cause problems with your release. there will be some sort of a indicator (window, fush bolt etc.) for you to know if your boot is set right in the binding.

ok thanks, I just wanted to make sure because they seem really damn solid right now. They never come out easy unless I try to butter. I was just worried about hurting myself if I increased the DIN.

well if you feel they are doing their job then don't increase it unless you have to..if you do, just go up by 1/2 and see how it goes, if still not good enough, go another half..

You aren't that heavy though, so you shouldn't NEED much above 7

Its your heel that pre-releases when you nose press right. Then dont touch your toe din and crank up your heel don by 1 and see if that works better! There is no reason to crank up your toe din when your only having trouble with your heel pre-releasing. And no it does not matter if your toe and heel din are not the same. My FKS binders are cranked up at 7 in the toe(so I dont hurt my knees again) and my heel is at 10 so iI dont pre-release for no reason when I butter or land switch hard!
