Bindings and breaks for a 140 waisted ski?

I'm getting a ski with a 140 waist most likely Donner Party's and I've never skied a ski that big. What do I do about breaks? do I just get big breaks and bend them a shit load or not use breaks, or ankle straps? or what?

Bindings I'm considering are

STH 12 or 16, probably 16 though

Jesters (used em on my Bacons last year and liked them a lot)

Head Mojo 15's (Used em last year on my Anthems and liked them a ton, especially for park, although they were heavy)

Any other bindings I should look at? I've skied looks before and they were fine too, I guess I haven't ever had a real problem with any binding...other than a few old ass Markers but thats just cause they were low end shit bindings.

I think salomon is coming out with some STH 14s this year, I'd check those out. I'm considering those for when I get my hands on some JJs. And personally, I'd just bend the breaks.

I know you can get a 130 brake for the STH, wouldn't be surprised if Marker did a super wide brake too.

Not sure about the Mojo15 though, I know that comes pretty narrow with perhaps a 100mm option.

Decide on the bindings and regarding brakes: where theres a will, theres a way!!

Aight. The breaks are gonna look goofy however I do it haha. I liked my Mojo's but I might go with the Jesters because of the wider footprint anyway, might be better for a ski this big. I guess it might come down to price.

take a metal pipe and bend the brakes out and then down, it's the best method i've ever seen and it works super good, you could probably bend 100mm to fir 140, i've done it on solly brakes and i'm gonna do it on a pair of rossis soon
here's a good vid on how to do it

I would not use Mojo 15s on a 140mm waisted ski. The skis are so wide they torque you right out of the toepiece when you try an initiate a turn on hardpack. Stick with Jesters, STH16s/916s (I doubt the toepiece on the STH12 would do very well) or racestock Rossi/Looks.

i wouldnt do it this way unless you have solly bindings. the brakes are a muc softer metal it seems. with fks, and ime assuming its the same with the newer rossi's, your gonna want to use a vice. if you have fks's check out tgr for a thread that explains it very well.and you can def bend fks brakes to fit a 140 waisted ski.

Thanks for confirming my fears, I was worried about that. I do love those bindings though, oh well I love my Jesters more.

Do you think the STH or Jesters are a better binding. People always say they are plastic and shit but since I'm not charging insane lines I don't think I need FKS or any race stock binding. And the Plastic shaves weight, not that it matters except for hiking I guess.

I haven't used Jesters, but I have used Dukes, as well as STH16s. Assuming the Dukes ski very similar to the Jesters (except with slightly high stack height, plus the ability to land switch) I would personally say get whatever one you can find cheapest/easiest. Both ski very well. Both have wide brakes that won't require much bending. The Jester is a little lighter, and, with a wider mounting pattern, will be easier to get on edge in everything but pow. If price were no object, Jesters all the way, but realistically both would do quite a good job.

the brakes on the solly 990 series are definitely softer but it's doable with rossi brakes also, easier with solly but possible using that method with other brakes

I like the safety of the Mojo 15s. Have seen pics of them mounted on the Fatypus but haven't ridden 'em on any fat skis. A wide brake like about 105mm is available from Tyrolia (fits Mojo) that can be bent. I'm not arguing about the toe piece torque question but whatever binders you use are going to be subject to the same pressures.
