Binding Toe Piece Trend

I'm curious as to why the toe shape that I first saw on Markers a few years ago is now on the Guardian/Tracker, and now Tyrolia has adopted a similar toe design on the Attack series. I understand they are not identical, but they definitely all stem from the same starting place. What about this shape is so good?
 
By putting the spring horizontally, the mount pattern is smaller and therefore doesn't affect the flex of the ski as much.
 
On touring bindings like the Guardian/Tracker a shorter toe piece is more practical. It allows the pivot point near the toe of the boot to be closer to the ski when "walking".. or something like that.
 
No one copied Marker... if anything Marker copied Fritschi Diamir. You know why? You can't have a pivoting binding with long, triangular shaped toe piece. It won't pivot enough. You need to have a design with a horizontal spring to make that happen. It's a mechanical necessity, not a design copy.
 
Didn't say they copied. I don't even like Marker. I was just using that as a reference point since I don't know a technical term for this specific design.
 
The 'wings' on the lateral spring toe pieces such Markers or Tyrolia's AAAtack can move individually as well which give more elastic glide in either direction before they release

By moving the picot point back, you're giving it a better stride. Low Tech bindings hinge right at the toe and it is a very natural stride whereas the farther away from the toe's natural stride point, the more they'll tour like a pile of dicks.
