Binding Removal?

I'm trying to remove the bindings (Rossignol Axial 2's) off of my brother's K2 Extreme skis that he said he doesn't need anymore for my new 4FRNT CRJ's. I was able to get a few screws out with a drill, but, with all the other screws I've come to the problem of them being epoxied really strongly. When I attempt to unscrew them with a drill, they don't move in the slightest and the drillbit just spins. Is there any way I would be able to easily remove them without getting to a shop? I need to lessen the amount of epoxy and I was told that using a hair dryer might work, because it would heat up the epoxy and make it easier to remove the bindings. Is this valid? How would I be able to get the bindings off?

if you or some one you know has lots of tools ask for a impact driver, bit adapter and get the correct bit. put it together like you would with a regular screwdriver and hit it on the top with a hammer. you should be able to easily get the screws out in only a few seconds.

The bit spins? So you stripped the screw head?

If not use a number 3 philips and try unscrewing them by hand. Iva had some tight screws but none i couldnt muscle out

If you have a soldering iron, plug it it in and once its hot hold the tip onto the top of the screws that are stuck. Hold it on there for a minute or two, and the screw will heat up just enough to soften up the epoxy. Then use a hand screw driver to get them out. 20 years of mounting my own bindings and ive never used a drill to unscrew the screws out of a ski. And have never stripped a screw either. If you're gonna mess with bindings, get yourself a #3 Phillips screwdriver.

damn... would of never thought of that haha. good idea man! but ya i just use a #3 bit or i believe its called a torques bit if it specifically made by a ski tuning company. but i always use a drill in the shop, with the right bit iv never had a screw i couldn't get out. if all else fails.. easy out.

If the drill bit was spinning in the head of the screw chances are you have ruined the head of the screw. When removing screws it's supper important to put as much downward force on the screwdriver as you put into turning it. You also never really want to use a drill. Start by hand and so long as you are strong enough you should have no issues. I would not recomend the soldering iron idea. Remember the binding is plastic so if you hear up the screws you could easily slightly melt the holes and deform the shape.

But if you have actually destroyed the screws you will need to use a differnt method. Firstly try making a slot in the screw head with a dremmel or other hand held cutter. From there you can try to hammer in afloat head screw driver and use that to remove the screw. If that does not work you will need to drill the screw heads off remove te binding then you could use some heat from a heat gun to warm the screw remaining I the ski and remove them with pillars. But if you are not that skilled with things like this I would just take them to a shop an have them do it.
