Binding performance at lowest setting

Ok I can get the sth 16s for an amazing price, but i usually just rock my din around 9-9.5. Does anyone know how this binding is gonna respond since thats the start of its DIN range?

Ive worked on the old s912 series, and only mounted one pair of sth 12s in my shop. I dont like the three hole toepiece of the sth 14 and 12 so its either sth 16 or something else.

Im 5'9, 170 lbs., this binding is only going on my ep pros and anthems. o bootsole of 305. (I have a din chart since i mount my own stuff in my chart and Im already considered about a 3+ technically on the charts)

the binding isnt gonna be seeing much of a 10 din, probably 9-9.5 all its life. I have two pairs of rossi power 100/120 axials and I tear up my gear that badly.

Think I can rock a sth16?

Could you not get the STH14 Driver? I think it's around this year and has the 4hole toe like the 16.
It would be your best option. I'm not sure if it's being made though. Check it through the shop.
But I always recommend not to run bindings in the top or bottom 10% of the range, only because it's what I was told when I was first learning. Hope you get it sorted man.
Peace

if they do make the sth 14 in the four hole toe id definately go that route

i dunno what have been ur guy's experince with that three hole toe? it just seems unstable to me....

They definitely make a 14driver, and I'm pretty sure it has the 4bolt toe, looks like it from the pictures at least, 6-14 range. I would investigate it man.

One giant link, my bad.

i also wouldnt recommend the top or bottom 10%ish of bindings, but its up to you. if they perform how they're supposed to, it should be fine, but usually at the bottom end they dont release so often, and at the top end they release a little early, based on the spring. id be interested to see what some of the binding experts say about this tho. i mean i know most of my stuff, but i havent been doing it for 10+ years like some people.

ive kinda gathered the reasoning behind not going so low, but i mean it is a top of the line binding and the spring has to be burly to start at a DIN of 9 instead of 6 or 8 like most bindings in its class....

I set them at a minimum of 10. They say that the release should be consistent throughout the din range but it seems to test sketchy sometimes on the low number.

maybe ill do some of my own tests next time i get a nicer binding in my shop (try some vermont tests on the lowest settings compared to midrange)...

haha ya we still have a vermont tester, i hate the fucking thing too.

Trust me we have tried to get better shit in every year, but they wont splurge.

We still have to send it in every year to be calibrated so the thing must still be accurate...

ya there is nooo way in hell my shop would spend that much on a tester, its really sad.

but then again my shop doesnt seem to care about us techs until they realize they are fucked when i go outta town every year for ten days lol.

who knows i may end up cranking em to ten evenutally since im only using em on my pollards and anthems....

im just not looking to destroy my legs, i dont fall as badly as i used to, but shit happens

I mean try it at 9. test it and see how it goes.

If you really wanted to, you could get a 12 din spring and frankenstein it. The window reading wont be correct, but as long as it tests correctly, you have the bulletproof housing of the 16, but the din range of a 12

the shop price for the binding is almost too hard to pass up, plus it comes stock with a 130 mm brake and i like how light it is....

id go with something like the jester but shop price for those is too much compared to the sth

It's fine. I passed some 5-10 or 5-12 bindings on a Huber once set at 4 with the needle below the line for 5. So on the minimum setting is fine.

sweet man that helps out a lot.

well i think im goin with the 16s then (unless the driver 14 appears on proform)

i have some armada ARV 175s from 03/04 for sale too if anyones interested (specs are in the buy/sell/trade forum)

it works fine but try to come up with another alternative, it's not as bad as maxing out the din but always try to be in the middle of the din range
