I am spending next semester in salt lake city. I will have season passes to the canyons and snowbird. Im new to this considering i am a east coast park skier. The program i am involved in is planning on going backcountry skiing 3 times. I have not mouted my bindings yet and have Salomon z12 bindings right now(not mounted). If im going to be touring should i be putting a touring binding on my goats like a Duke or Baron?

well if you are going touring i cant help with that call cuz im also a east coast park rat.. but the z12 binding is weak you should get an STH 12 its alot more sturdy for more EXTREME terrain..

anyone got a real answer for a fellow east coast gnarly bro

If you are only going into the backcountry about 3 times then there is an alternative that will save you money and you can keep your old binders. They make binding inserts, I think you can get them at REI, that fit into your binding and work like an AT binding so you can skin. Not sure of the name of them but I had a pair.

They are called Alpine Trekkers and they are made by Back Country Access. They sound like they would be a good fit for the OP. They are heavy, and they aren't cheap, but you may be able to find a used pair on TGR, or maybe egay.

Don't forget that you need a pair of skins, once again, since you are only going to be going three times, try to find a used pair in decent condition.
