Binding Answering time (with a little complaint :)

No offense, but probably many will take it... how the crap can 2/3 the kids on this site have no idea about bindings? "what kind of bindings should go on AR5s?" I mean crap, the same bindings work on every frickin ski. There are like 5 or 6 different bindings that work just fine for free ride that are solid with a high din. So here you go:

If you are lightweight and don't need a high din, Salomon s810 if you want a lightweight binding, lookp10, Rossi scratch, axial, power 100s if you want a slightly tougher but heavier binding.

If you are medium/average weight or do normal riding (hard pack, park, with occasional pow) then get something with a din of 12 or so to be sure. Salomon s912 Ti if you want a lightweight set up, Look p12, Rossi scratch, power, axial, or FKS 120 if you want a tougher, heavier binding.

If you are a big skier, or what a burly binding you will want a tougher, high din bindings. Recommendations include Salomon s914 (yes, they are actually metal and tougher), Look p14, Rossi Scratch, Axial, or Power 140, FKS 155.

Unbreakable bindings for those who are rough on their skis and/or weigh a lot: Look p18, Salomon s916 or s920, Rossi FKS 155 or 185.

I am not really recommending Line or 4FRNT bindings because they have yet to prove themselves. Not saying they aren't great, just dont a lot about them. weeeeee

well they are. The reason 912s break more often is because the heeltrack piece is a lightweight plastic, whereas the 914's is aluminum.

I don't know man. I have 916's in front of me too. And those feel like metal because they are. The 914 has a metal heel track but it sits in a chunk of plastic where the screws mount. The latter part is what tears out.

i think i remember someone on this site telling me that rossi axials aren't very good?A what's the difference to the rossi scratch (except the gold color)?

^difference = nothing. although, they have bindings called axiums that are crappy. maybe he was confused.

two issues between the s914 and s916 are (and I'm looking at both right now):

1) (at least on mine) the s914 has a completely plastic toe piece and heal piece. S916 is all metal. The s914 has always felt super sloppy to me while skiing too, as had most all recent salomons.

2) The s914 has only 1 screw to adjust the toe wings. The s916 has 2. This is one of my biggest complaint with the current s914/s912s. The 2 screw system is much more effective at keeping the binding adjusted correctly. The s914, as the s912/s810 do, fall out of adjustment easily and result in prereleases. The s916, or older s900, that have 2 screws dont have this problem.

Other than that....nice job Russell!! Most people on here asking about race stocks don't need them. They will be fine with normal bindings with dins up to 12 or 14.

i thought the 912's had an aluminum heeltrack and the 914/916 had steel heeltracks? only reason i say so is because i busted a heeltrack in half on the 912ti's two seasons ago and it looked a lot more like aluminum than plastic, and the shop guy told me the higher up models had steel heeltracks vs aluminum on the 912ti. am i wrong?

You should put weight restrictions in, like a lightweight is 100-120, and med weight is 130-160 and what not. It would make it even clearer.

I will fight you to the death on Marker.

There is no shittier binding on the market than pretty much any marker. Spend your money elsewhere. Don't get me started on how shitty all markers, from M1000 to comp 1400s, are. No one I know, no one I've mounted for, no one I ski with who unfortunately came across a pair of Markers at some point, not even my little brother who rides 5 days a year, has had problem free Markers.

And you're wrong on the release mechanism being good. It's not. Especially not for aggressive "free"skiers. The toe doesn't feature enough travel and the wing automatically lets you out once you hit a pre-determined point, with no regard to the situation. Layman's terms: Pre-releases are more common with Markers than any other binding.

If that isn't enough for you, check this: The only pros (people who depend on their gear more than anyone else and who know their shit) who ride marker are those who are affiliated with Volkl/K2. Why? Because K2 owns Marker, and they get a sweetheart deal. If you look at all the riders who aren't affiliated to a binding sponsor, they're on either Salomon or Look. I wonder why that is....

And K2's posterchild Seth Morrison? Wouldn't be caught dead on Markers, even though he could easily get whatever Marker binding he'd ever want. Seth would rather scavenge for Salomon race stock than use Marker.

I'll take my experiences with Marker, along with the words of dozens of pros, industry people, and Seth Morrison, over you Freezy.

Lastly, I hope you're not repping Marker because you happen to work in a shop and happen to have had your local friendly Volkl/Tecnica/Marker rep hook you up with a full setup...But it wouldn't surprise me if that's what was happening.

I totally agree with everyting evreryone said above. I have P12 turntables right now and love them.. however be on the lookout for the new atomic bindings. I guess they lightened them up and from what I hear they feel more stable than anything out.. just like the old atomic bindings but now at a weight close to the other bindings.

You're probably right.

Whenever anybody makes a thread talking some shit about marker he chimes in preaching about their consistency. The only thing consistent about markers is their breaking and almost killing me.

NoTeefa hates Marker. I hate Marker. A shitload of people hate Marker. All for valid reasons.

Freezy loooooooves Marker. He rides in Minnesota.

I ride at Whistler. Noteefa rides all over the Pacific Northwest.

Who do you trust?

haha, rory silva was at the redbull rail jam in tahoe last weekend and he rides fujatives with marker bindings. He was just practicing and hit the kink on the d/f/d box and his front ski just blew off sending him headfirst onto stairs. It was gnarly, but yeah, marker is not the shit.

What about Tyrolias?????? Id like to try them and havent heard bad things about them. Anyone know anything about the Mojo 15s?? I heard they have the pivot system in them, but havent heard anything else (how they preform, strength/durability). Im interested and if anyone has some answers Id appreciate it.

brad holmes had marker make him din 40 bindings. why? cos they prerelease all the time.

oh & chris booth rides for k2 & rocks salomon bindings.

I exploded 2 pairs of Markers in 40 days on snow and I don't even weigh very many pounds.

For all kids reading this who actually have bindings questions: As you can see, there is a large debate about Marker bindings. As the author of this I didn't include marker bindings, so you can guess why. I am not a fan of markers, but at the same time I won't tell you to disclude them. I do, however, agree with Jib_This. No offense marker, but you are a racing binding :)

Yea, I hear the new atomics are supposed to be good? Appearantly they made a bunch of changes and they are a lot lighter now? can someone confirm this?

at first i thought this was a pointless sticky, but now i like it, now do one with ski sizings and everything so there are no more dumb threads liek that

Well i just ordered three pairs of Axial2 140 Ti's.....got them for 219 a pair from my local shop....I am sure they will be way sexy

Does anyone have any info on Tyrolias???? Im thinking about getting them, mainly the Mojo 15s, but when I saw the Mojo 11s they were one of the smallest bindings in the store. I know that the 15 is supposed to be bigger and burlier but after seeing the 11s im really not sure. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
