has anyone modified their bikes to ride in the snow/winter contidions? i was thinking of puting screws or bolts throught the tires. anyone tried this?

well dont go normal biking its hard...work out ...i have mtn bike class at school and we rode the other day in the snow and it was a bitch

there was this kid who was biking to work cause that was his only transportation and he slipped in the snow and when he fell over he got ran over by a car and died

ive seen it b4 in a bmx mag its pretty cool.. the guy took the front tire off and put a ski wiht a thing to hook onto the fork and in the back he put a ski to and he was doin like tailwhips and shit

yeah we had a huge bike competition at my mountain like 2 years ago and the years before that. it was all in the snow. it was called the redbull freezeride, but it got taken away because people are dicks.

the winter x bike kit is a rip off and i'm pretty sure it's run out of some guys garage.

screws improve traction, but if you bail the wrong way.... ouch.

I just buy new tires in the fall, use them for winter riding and they're pretty much brand new for the next season.

yeah i put short wood screws through the rear tire of my crappy bmx bike. it works really well on ice/snow covered roads

if you're running a really short screw ( i'm guessing 1/4 inch) it works great, but the local winter competitions don't allow screws or i would install some in my tire. Oh ya, and be sure to cover the screw heads with something, tube patch works the best, but duck tape will do the trick also. Prevents the screws from eating into your tube.

or cut an old innertube in half lenght wise and tape it to the inside of the tire
