Big White avalanche?

Pretty scary stuff, that an avalanche this size can happen in bounds even after loads of skiers have al lready been down the same area. Does anyone have any more information about the slide? last I heard there was 1 fatality and the pictures i saw were pretty intense.

Yeah a guy from Macquarie University (about 10 minutes from where i live) died in that..

Shitty news, he was only 21.

i person died, it was a pretty big slab that broke off and buried the 1 guy that died completly and 2 others up to there waist. I would assume it was due to a heavy windcrust underneath and then it snowed ontop and mad an unstable snow pack. it jumped from about -11 to -3 that day so i think that probly contributed to it also. dangerous shit.

I think the scenario of this slide will encourage quite extensive research in how exactly this could happen even after avi bombing and ski cutting.....hopefully a more in depth understanding of avalanche control will arrise from this tragic incident.

yeh.

poor bastard, here for the season working for housekeeping.

if anyone hears anything about a memorial service or vigil up on the cliff, let me know. im tottally rocked by this, way close too home. i grew up 5k from him back in oz.

RIP bro

that blows hardcore for his family my condolenses go to him and his family i just hope its stable enough for this weekend i wanted to shoot back there

yea the guys name was leigh barnier, good bloke,

from narrabeen near where i live. really sad rode with him a couple of times and he ripped.

his bro is a good friend of mine. really sad stuff.

send your positive vibes to his families.

a guy at louise died yesterday.

i have no idea where exactly he was, he was out of bounds some where, but sure if he was even at the resort or just near.

they say this is supposed to be the worst year for avalanches in a long time. 10 deaths already this year.

my friend got buried to his chest and lost all his skis and stuff inbounds at red today

and another lady at big red cats ( cat skiing in the mountains just past red) got buried 5 feet deep but was rescued in time on saturday.

the snow is super unstable, dont do anything stupid, even inbounds

this has been a harsh season, im still amazed that an avy that big can happen in bounds on a busy bluebird day

We think as a race we're pretty damn intelligent, I'm amazed we don't have this down to an exact science.

This should not have happened. Fluctuating temperatures or not.

there saying that the avy danger above 5000 feet for most ski hills in bc is at extreme its great that all this snow is coming but sucks royally that theres soo many avys

its hard u cant predict the conditions like at mt washington on vancouver island we got 40 cm in one night and they avy controlled the shit out of it and i went down first i get to a cliff and look up and i see 10 people being dragged down by a small avy even after all the cutting and blasting so its a crap shoot with this shit
